We are staying in Panguitch as our base to Bryce and Escalante, and we heard that the Gem Theater was playing "Twelve Angry Men" free "for the community." We had to see what was up. It's a cute theater, with a good sound system, and a large enough screen to really enjoy a classic movie. King Kong vs. Godzilla is on the weekend!!

Such a funny place and seems a little weird at first. But this place is astonishing!! I had the green chili cheese and blue corn veggie tamales. Absolutely fantastic!!! My husband had the red chili pork and the green chili chicken tamales. Really delicious as well! There is a fun first run movie theater in the building as well as a fun room with foosball and air hockey. Historical fun everywhere: three dinosaur scull casts that are amazing and a lot of lovely fossils and rocks. An antique movie projector and posters. Last but not least they have some in house flavors of ice cream that were fun and delicious as well and some BYU creamery flavors. All in all absolutely the best stop from bryce to Payson!!

The Gem and its staff are amazing. It's not just a theater, but also a Mexican restaurant/ice cream shop/rock shop. We ordered tacos and burritos. While our food was being prepared we were encouraged to check out the rock shop upstairs. Not only were there rocks to admire/buy, but three life-sized dinosaur skulls (on loan from a museum). The food was delicious, with large portions that were reasonably priced-- unlike the restaurants in Bryce Canyon City. The chef obviously has perfected Mexican cuisine. Our only regret was we didn't find this place until our last night in the area. Otherwise, we would have gone back and tried the rest of the menu. Visit The Gem for food or entertainment. You won't be disappointed!

Small old school theatre but such a fun adventure!

Had the best time! Great treats, small, old and a special end to a day of hiking! I would totally recommend if you need a break from hiking and want to discover things off the beaten path.

First off, we totally missed the truck but was able to find it using gps. The truck is small and runs next to an RV Park. We ended up parking on the street and just walked to find it. The signs were helpful and the blue truck color made it stand out. We were greeted by a very friendly server and answered our questions. We have never had a Birria so we wanted to order one since the photos from the business owner looked good. I have to say that the photo and the meal served did not match. We felt a bit deceived, since it didn't look nearly as delicious as the photo. However, we were pleased to try the soft birria and shared one between me and my husband. It was good but not special. I guess u can't really expect mind-blowing from a simple food truck. Sad to say we were not able to take a photo. We were so hungry after driving for hours from Monument Valley- we were hangry. After eating 1 birria and 2 tacos, we ended up getting more food somewhere else. In as much as I would like to support small businesses, I think some work needs to be done. Modifying the menu to make it clearer or perhaps creating a menu with pictures to help. Bottom line? I would recommend it if you're craving for some tacos and Mexican food in the area since there really aren't that much to choose from.

I chose the Enchiladas Tricolor which was a good opportunity to try their mole, red and verde sauces on chicken, cheese & pork respectively. Comes with beans, rice & interestingly ... coleslaw. My husband chose the Burrito Asada but didn't want any pico de gallo. The waitress asked if he wanted the guacamole and the red sauce on the side to which he said "Sure". I think he's lucky the red sauce was on the side as he could only describe it as "weird, very strange, not good." I tried it and thought "thin vegetable soup ". The kitchen forgot to put the melted cheese on top so his burrito in the picture is very plain looking. He added the guacamole along with the beans and rice to each bite of the burrito and thought that added some flavor to it. The asada was just bland beef with no evidence of a marinade or spicing. My Tricolor Enchiladas plate had 3 enchiladas, beans, rice & coleslaw- & only half of those 6 items were tasty. I was intrigued by the coleslaw and liked it so I ate it all first. I ended up taking sone from my husband's plate to cleanse my palette after I finished eating my meal. It helped clear out the weird pork gravy taste that was the sole flavor of the chile verde. It was so different from other chile verdes I've eaten before. This one had no citrus notes that would normally come from having tomatillos in it. The pork did not improve my outlook. After my first bite I cut the enchilada open to see if the pork was fully cooked. It was pinkish but seemed cooked. It just had that partially raw pork flavor to it. The other 2 enchiladas were good (chicken with a slightly sweet mole sauce and the Classic Red with cheese). I think that same veggie tasting red sauce my husband encountered is their "Classic Red" sauce. The sour cream dollop on this enchilada kinda overtook the sauce so I didn't mind it - didn't miss tasting that sauce here. Sadly the last 2 components on my plate - beans & rice were really lacking. The beans seemed a bit salty but had little flavor despite that. The rice appeared to have no seasoning in it - very bland. Mixing the two together didn't improve either. Adding one of the 2 tasty salsas (red or green) that came to the table with the just slightly greasy chips did help the rice. I noticed a pool of oil/ grease accumulating behind the enchiladas (see picture). Not a good sign for flavor to me. The waitress said the restaurant has been around for 22 years and the booth we sat in showed it. My side of the booth seemed to raise me higher than normal above the table while my husband's side seated him at the proper height to the tabletop. My husband said his Strawberry Margarita was good and thought he could taste the tequila. I had a sip and wasn't sure if it was tequila or the triple sec in the background but thought it was a decent strawberry margarita as it was not overly sweet. I noticed the price on the menu $8.99 was not the price we were charged ($9.99) for his "house margarita ". All other pricing on our receipt matched the menu. Also on our receipt there was a Card Total and a lower Cash Total. We had already planned to pay cash. There's too many other Mexican restaurants in Cedar City to ever go back to La Casa DM.
