Early dinner in Florence with the Duomo staring me right in the face at Il Sasso Di Nante. This little restaurant is nestled into a nook with a great view of the Duomo, where you can find shade on sunny days and maybe even catch a little breeze if you're lucky like me.
I scanned over the menu and quickly picked my dish: Spaghetti alla Bolognese. After a week and a day in Italy, I'm still searching for that unforgettable pasta dish, hoping this one wouldn't be another letdown like a few others I've tried.
To wet my whistle, I ordered a Coca-Cola and a natural water. As a certified water snob, I still haven't found any "gray water" over here, so my expectations were high.
The drinks arrived, and the waiter poured the water into my glass. I took a sip and immediately thought, "Now THAT is water." San Benedetto water may be the best thing I've tasted since landing over a week ago. Simply divine.
A little later, the meal hit the table looking absolutely beautiful. Little hearts started floating from my eyes while my mouth watered up. Here we go...
I took that first bite, my eyes rolled back in my head, and I thought, "Finally. THIS is what I've been looking for." It took me 8 days to find it.
This dish was amazing. The pasta was cooked perfectly, and the rich red meat sauce was spot on. Add in the outdoor seating, Italian music playing in the background, and the Duomo towering nearby, and it sets the mood perfectly -- even if you can't speak a lick of Italian.
Well done, Di Nante. Give that chef a pat on the back. I'll definitely be back within the next two weeks. read more
