We hadn't been here in years but my mom wanted a nice hot bowl of soup so we decided to check it out. They've done a lot of renovations and changing of things and I'm not sure it's for the better. The place wear they have for their food items does not make sense for the items they are brought in. They are trying to be fancier than they actually are. 99% of the items on their menu are made out of simple pizza dough that they make for Pennie's but then are charging an arm and a leg for things, our bill was over $50. We got the panino fries to split which were fine but not wonderful. I got a panino and my mom got a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and a chef salad. Now to me that doesn't seem like $50 worth of food. My panino was fine but the second half was so soggy I could hardly eat it. My mom said something was different about the chicken tortilla soup and not for the better. She said the chef salad was good but the bowl was a horrible choice for them to put it in. When I tried to go to the restroom I went into the first of the two stalls and all the toilet paper was gone. The next had hardly enough for me to go and then when I went to wash my bands the soap and paper towels were both empty. They had just opened maybe a half hour before we got there which tells me someone was majorly slacking or because it was all men working they didn't want to do the women's restroom. I had the hot honey BBQ panino and it was amazing!! Quite spicy so I picked off some of the jalapeños but the flavor was amazing! And it was a good sized meal. My mom had the chicken bruschetta panino and was unfortunately not as impressed. The flavor was good, but the chicken was tough and chewy. The service was ok but somewhat inattentive. I was excited to see Panino's in North Oaks after my family used to visit the location on Rice Street when I was growing up. The soup was larger than anticipated and was both chunky and flavorful. Been coming here for 20 years, was my wife's favorite spot. Stopped in last week for dinner with 4 of us and was shocked how far downhill this place has gone. Service was amazing, should out to Davie our server for being excellent. Panino fries have been a family favorite for us and our kids forever, but unfortunately they were inedible, dough was as usual but were so salty it was ridiculous. And my kids love salt. Salad was a salad. Meatball sliders were a bit of ground beef in a panini shell with a ton of cheese. No ball to be found, and my panino was avg at best. Been going here for years. Lots of panino choices and food is always good. Nice atmosphere after they remodeled.

At 3PM the bar was full including a big party in the back room. I like how there are bathrooms at both ends. I just got spaghetti. Everything is average, the sauce, salad and garlic bread. Been going here for years, they have fallen off. I ordered a salad takeout yesterday. They gave me the wrong salad and the once delicious breadstick was like concrete. I'm pretty surprised that Panino's only has a 3-star average as I was quite pleased with both the quality and quantity of food that we got here! My husband and I split a nola muffaletta panino (sub chicken tortilla soup on the side for $2.75 extra) and a large house combo pizza (subbed out mushrooms for onions for $1.50 extra but still cheaper than building from scratch). We knew we would have leftovers when our waiter thought we were done ordering after the panino lol. The portions were huge and we had enough for both of our lunches the next day. The panino was very true to a muffaletta and the pizza was gooey (nice cheese pull!) and satisfying. The chicken tortilla soup was more like a chicken chili but still delicious. It's not fancy cuisine obviously but just good comfort food. The restaurant is nice and spacious and our waiter was excellent. Will be back to try some of the weekly specials! read more

I would like to call my self a regular who loves to bring my family to eat. They usually have great service today was the worst service and drinks ive ever had! I love to give good reviews and shout out to servers and bartenders but today I felt very disappointed. my drinks were so gross and my mother's. I asked to fix it but Tory the worst bartender ever said she could remake it but would use the same ingredients and nothing would change. I paid extra to get better vodka but the drink was so nasty! the server put all the plates silverware ect on our table even tho we had two different orders and three tables. Why do I have to work there and be a server and pass all the dinner ware. they asked us once about refills and I had to ask for everything. and worst thing of all was the nasty looks and attitudes. my daughter said they were talking bad about us at the bar, but why? After going to this restaurant, I was bragging about this restaurant since 1995. Paninos in North Oaks, MN, has been removed from my gotta go restaurant. Tonight, I had my standard chicken cheddar on white, normally house chips, but I wanted to try the pasta. The noodles were undercooked and gummy, not what I expected from an Italian restaurant. The chicken, which is always white chicken, was dark and chucked up. To top it off, the wrap that was my only reason for ever going was this thin over cardboard thing. Don't hurry here. Eh. About 15-20 years ago I used to work next door at a travel agency which is no longer there. Panino's used to be my guilty pleasure. EVERYTHING was SO GOOD. Couldn't go wrong. The Panino's were delicious, pasta was amazing, the pasta salad and bread sticks were OUT OF THIS WORLD. I have since moved 40 minutes away and don't make it over this way often. Tonight we had a hockey game a few minutes away and I was super excited to try it again. The inside has been completely renovated and it looks great. The food, however was mostly disappointing. The chicken tortilla soup and my son's pizza were the hits. Our combo panino was greasy and soggy and didn't come as ordered (we had requested an item on the side since we were sharing and both didn't agree on all ingredients). The bean and veggie soup wasn't good and the pasta salad wasn't anywhere near as good as it used to be. I was also freezing the entire time and kept my coat on. Not how I want to relax and eat. We've enjoyed the food here over the years and always expected and received very inattentive table service. Today was no exception. The young server disappeared for about 15 minutes before stopping to take our order. The food, as always, was very good. We all would have like a beverage to go along with it. After initially delivering beverages and taking our orders we waited and finished our original beverages. Never asked or provided refills. THEN after I paid the bill, left a 20% cash tip and returned home, I noticed a 4% SEES FEE. A what? Had I been more observant - my own fault - I would have left a smaller tip, reflecting the FEE that they were already charging. I want to like this place, I like the food, I want to come and order food BUT they just cannot deliver service. I attribute it to poor training as I owned a food and beverage business and taught the employees that the customer is first and should be checked on, treated well and provided what they are paying for. This has been a solid choice for so many years. When we came in, there was no one to greet us. We went to the bar to see if we could sit there - there was no signage about whether you could seat yourselves. We went back to the entryway where the hostess was dealing with a takeout order error. She didn't acknowledge us, when she hung up, she turned around and walked back to the kitchen. Someone else came out. He told us the bar was open seating. We went and sat in the bar and were ignored for a time. I went to the bar to ask if we should order at the bar - then the waitress saw us and came over apologetically with menus. Interesting thing is there were 3 servers in our area and it was only half full of customers. We stopped here for our first time on Oct 1 for my daughter's birthday. The staff was welcoming when we arrived and we waiting a short time before being seated. It was clear that the place was crowded with what I believe were homecoming students nicely dressed in large groups. Once we were seated things quickly went downhill. It took 20 minutes for someone to even take our order, another 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive and 30 more minutes before we were served a dinner salad with no silverware. The waiter (who I believe is not a regular waiter) made no acknowledgements of the delay, no information about when food would be served and rarely even looked our way. We sat here over an hour and almost 50 minutes after our order was taken before we got up and left. We did have a beer so left some money on the table. When we told the woman at the front counter we were leaving and what had happened she really could have cared less. No apology, nothing more than an "okay, bye". We drove down the street to have fast food... happy birthday to my daughter. I understand being busy. I understand delays. What I don't understand is the complete lack of communication and acknowledgment to the customers waiting. Or even a warning before we were seated that they were running behind that evening. Simply put, I like their sandwiches, but they are completely unsafe for anyone concerned about COVID. I got food from them 2 weeks ago. I walked in and there were 12 people in the lobby. i was the only one with a mask. The 3 employees shuttling food in and out of the kitchen were not wearing masks (or any PPE). The chicken in my Buffalo Chicken panino was not fresh. Seemed prepackaged, was grisly and a total disappointment. I went to the North Oaks location for dinner with friends after work. I had never been to Panino's before, but my pals had lots of suggestions on what I should order. They have pizza and pasta, but it's their Panino that really dominates the menu here. In case you've never tried it, a Panino is a baked wrap sandwich concoction. They have a little over 30 different options to choose from--one of which is basically a bowl of spaghetti in sandwich form. I decided on the Philly which consists of roast beef, onion, green pepper, swiss and mozzarella cheeses along with ranch dressing. It arrived hot and tasted fresh. I would gladly order this again once I made my way through some of their other offerings. Our server was attentive, the restaurant was clean, and it was a relaxed environment (we didn't have to shout over any loud music or anything). It's located in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking in the lot. I'd make a return visit! read more

I've eaten at Panino's for over 30 years. We moved from the area but when we visit family we often get takeout. Over the years (pre-pandemic) we saw the quality slip and prices rise. I get it. Restaurants are expensive to run. But that's not the biggest issue. The last three times we've put our online orders in and the system gives us a time. Mind you, we're not saying when we want the food, we're letting the restaurant tell us. All three times we've had to wait a minimum of 20 minutes after arriving to get the food. Why have a system like this? Also, 2/3 orders have been wrong. When we've called they have been helpful to correct but it's a 20 minute drive to get the right food. I love that Big Bopper and it keeps me coming back but man, it's getting tough. read more

It's just so mediocre. The food is good because nothing else is around. My suggestion is if you're getting take out (which is the only thing we do because service is terrible), check all of your take out food. Tonight, we ordered $65 worth of food, we were missing an entire entree, missing all of our sauces (which we paid extra for), and one panino came out wrong two times. First came out as the wrong thing and second time wrong bread. They offered a free drink coupon, which is meh, but this is totally normal for them. Every time we eat here, an order is wrong. It just is what it is and we are totally accustomed to it. $8 for kids mac and cheese with no bread or side, and $11 for a breadstick entree that was so small we thought it was a bread side. read more

Now it's that cold millennial flipper grey, the Paninos cost an absurd $15 or more, half the time orders are wrong, and long wait times for your food. They never remember side sauces, and are quite stingy with it.
