He didn't fully read the paperwork he signed, which acknowledged understanding the risks, costs, and that he would be responsible for payment upfront. Unfortunately, this was not clearly explained, and the written agreement did not match the verbal information he received. When we called to clarify, the office was unhelpful and seemed confused, stating that they only provide estimates and do not handle insurance directly. This left us feeling misled, as the information we were given in person suggested otherwise. For someone who relies on verbal explanations, this experience was frustrating and, in our opinion, not transparent. We ultimately decided to cancel the appointment and will not be returning. While the staff was courteous and scheduling was convenient, the lack of clear communication about insurance and costs made this a negative experience.

If this is the level of professionalism shown during a simple phone inquiry, it raises serious concerns about the overall quality of the practice. First impressions matter, and this interaction completely eliminated my confidence in becoming a patient here. First, he was able to temporarily put the veneer back on (in a way that was much straighter than was done previously) and then diagnosed that an infection had developed around that tooth due to a previous root canal. He referred me to an excellent Endodontic Surgeon for an Apicoectomy which solved the infection and then re-did the root canal and properly whitened the underlying tooth so that my front teeth match more properly. I recently had a situation where I had an absessed tooth and ultimately had to have it pulled. I now have a bridge that literally looks like a work of art. I can't tell that the "pontic" is not my natural tooth - they matched my tooth color, got everything ready for the final install and it really, really turned out great! The front desk staff are also licensed dental assistants - something I didn't know until just recently and they are very helpful and truly DO care. When I was in distress upon finding I couldn't save the tooth, they gave me some great information on bridges and implants and took the time to go over both options. During the processes of getting the tooth pulled, to the preparation for the bridge itself, and the final installation, they were right there to guide me every step of the way through it, and it they made very sure I was comfortable with my choice. The only real thing I had to overcome was the Novocaine shots during the process, but once I was able to get past those, it really and truly turned out well. I stood at the hallway door for 15 minutes as I was the first appointment and they didn't let me in until exactly at 7:00 am. My normal dentist (Dr. Spanel) wasn't there due to schedule changes and they never called to let me know, so he didn't do my exam. In addition they have made the following financial changes..... 1. Charging a credit card processing fee of 3% 2. Requiring you to pay upfront to even schedule the appointment for the work you haven't even gotten done instead of paying on the day you get work done. 3. Have you sign a contract to allowing them to Charge a fee if you don't cancel within a timeframe. ( I've not experienced this but would hope there is some leniency) Either way is very off-putting. 4. They actually have a virtual assistant that answers the phone?!?! Just confirms the lack of interest they have in actually being personable. It's transitional care for financial gain and not focused on the client anymore which is too bad because it was an amazing place.

I found out that Dr. Spanel has sold the practice to a private equity group and he's now working there as an independent contractor. The new owners told the office staff to turn away anybody who wouldn't immediately fill out the MyChart stuff. I was still standing at the front counter discussing the situation when everybody just walked away and left me standing there. I'm glad Dr. Spanel is lining up his retirement, he's a great dentist. The new owners can go pound sand with their demands. Creighton University fills Omaha with batches of new dentists every year, and I am currently shopping for a new dentist.

I had gone in for a procedure that probably would be easy for most people. Unfortunately with heart problems, they will not allow me anything with epinephrine in it. Any dentist that I have ever been seen by never has had anything else other than meds I cannot have. The dentist eased all my anxiety, carefully listening to my history and letting me know, she knew what I needed and how to do it safely. OMG what a relief, I have gone 10 years always being told you need to be in a hospital setting. Its too risky for me to see you as a patient. I burst into tears honestly. I thought that would be my "forever situation." Fortunately, they helped me through the proceedure. Offering me something I could take pre-procedure to numb the area without inhibiting my breathing or raising my heart rate. I soooo very much appreciate them. We chose Total Dental because our insurance took it and it was close to our house without looking at the reviews. I went there for my first 2 regular cleanings. I go regularly every 6 months. They told my husband he should go every 3 months (he went even though he had to pay out of pocket for one of the cleanings every year). I had extreme pain in my front tooth because of a possible injury when I was younger. I saw Dr. Thorson, who is absolutely wonderful!! She saw me right away and referred me to an Endodontics practice. The practice that accepted my insurance couldn't get me in for over a month. Dr. Thorson stated to me in front of the dental hygienist that "if I ran out of antibiotics before I got into to see the Midwest Endodontics that all I needed to do is call her up and she would prescribe some more to get me through until I could see them for the root canal." Unfortunately, she went on maternity leave (which I totally understand) BUT the office manager (Danica Wicht) had no back up plan for her. When, I called some dental hygienist that I had absolutely no prior dental relationship with called me and stated to me "that they don't do that". She also kept saying "she wasn't in the room with me" I told her I knew that she wasn't in the room with me. I kindly asked her if she had my chart to look at and she said no. I was very shocked that a medical professional that hadn't been in the room with me (her own words) wouldn't have the chart to rely on. She never asked me my pain level either. Not one time during our phone conversation. Very disturbing as when you look at Total Dental's website they describe themselves as dental anxiety experts with over 40 years of experience. I asked to speak to an office manager and Dr. Courtney Molettiere got on. This woman needs to never me in medicine or dental care. Her bio reads "One of my favorite things about my profession is the chance to build relationships with patients" She is not an experienced Dentists. Read her bio and prior reviews about her. Highly do NOT recommend her. Very immature and never even read my chart before talking to me. You can see from other reviews, that other patients have said that EXACT same thing that I'm saying about Dr. Molettietiere. She was rude, unprofessional, never looked at my chart. Also found out later from the Practice Manager, that she shared information with 3 other people in her office (that was not necessary) and a complete violation of HIPPA. My medical information should only be shared on a need-to-know basis. They should realize that. In addition, I paid out of pocket for X-rays and was not even notified of the costs upfront. This practice has very inexperienced Dentists. I've gone to Dentists across the country my entire life AND never experienced the unprofessionalism of this office including the practice manager who called me from her cell phone in car and didn't even have my chart or information to know what she was referring to. The only thing she could say is she knew everyone in the "Office for 10 years" This should be handled using actual facts like a business NOT a like a friendship. In short, you have TONS of options in Elkhorn. I found another Dental practice within a few hours for my husband and me that honored both our military service and was kind and friendly, verified my insured, gave me upfront costs. Read their website of what they promise and then read the many reviews of patients that have actually visited this horrible dental clinic specifically the Elkhorn, Nebraska clinic.
