How have I never noticed this spot? I frequent the Shakey's next door quite a bit and never realized that a churro shop as amazing as Papa Churros existed right around the corner. First and foremost, the location is really clean and organized, which is a huge plus in my mind. I heard by word of mouth they had a strawberry dubai cup. I popped in and OMGOODNESS. There's a little sign on the counter. He said it takes a minute (it took about 15) he fried some churros, cut up strawberries, made the pillow dough in butter, whipped the pistachio cream, melted premium chocolate put it all in a cup!!! The best thing I've put in my mouth all year!!! Two of us ate it and had some for the next day!! Pro tip- take wet wipes! His joint is just as hip as he is! I first saw this place while driving down Paramount Blvd and had to bust a u-turn to check it out. We got the churro with ice cream and it was so delicious. The inside is also very cute and the sunflower cart was such a sweet touch. Since then.. we've been back 5+ times! The service is great and so kind. However, I was disappointed with the champurrado. I love champurrado and had high expectations, especially from a small, authentic spot like this. Unfortunately, it was SUPER grainy, and I couldn't even finish it, definitely would prefer the one from Tacos Gavilan. I even gave it to my dad, who usually eats and drinks anything, but he didn't like it either. Sadly, we ended up throwing away about three cups. It might have been a bad batch or just the last of the pot, so I'd be willing to give it another try since I love champurrado. I also tried the arroz con leche but wasn't a fan, so I passed it to my dad as well. Despite this, I'd still return for the churros and the great atmosphere! We stopped in to the new business in Downey to try their churros. It was about 10:30 am and they werent too busy when we went but i know they get slammed after school and around dinner time. The co-owner was named Oscar and he was so helpful in letting us know what they served and how he could help us. I ordered the new coconut cream churro and it was hot and delicious. We also ordered the jalapeño cream-cheese bread. He warmed it up and the bread was so soft, u could tell how freshly made it was. The place was clean and bright. Has a few tables and chairs to sit and eat your treats there or take them to go. There are plenty of spots to take selfies for the gram or TikTok.
