Walked in to order cheese fries for take out and watched the cooks touch the patties that were uncooked and then prepare sandwiches. At one time I saw a cook drop a sharpie on the floor pick it up and without washing her hands continued to work with food. Not to mention they placed a styrofoam container under a top broiler to melt the cheese on my fries and left it so long the cheese dried like leather and melted the styrofoam to the point a piece of styrofoam was stuck to the dried cheese and fries. Hard pass. I should have followed my instict, but my kids were starved and we were in the area going to Memorial Park and they were being picky about having burgers. First off, any place where you have to fight with flies over your food is a NO. When you can see the oil vat has been unmaintained for years, NO. When the establishment itself is filthy (tables and floors), NO. And when your kids are pointing out the dead flies in the window seal... ‍ just NO. We waited around about 20 mins for the food (1 regular burger & a kids cheeseburger meal) and left. Got to the park & started eating. My little one didn't want his burger, said it was yucky, so I picked it up to eat it when I noticed discoloration. Inspecting closer - it was MOLD!!! I called to let them know so they could check the bread so that no other kids would get sick & the cashier kindly offered a refund. Lesson learned. read more

My green chile double meat cheeseburger Burger was delicious and very plentiful. Two issues affected this visit. My burger was so juicy that the bottom half of the bun became saturated and impossible to pick up. I ate the whole thing with a knife and fork. This very tiny place has no handicap accessibity...no designated parking and no ease of entry. Since I can't use their steps, my order must be take out(my wife goes inside to get it). In the 15-20 minute drive home the juices soak through the bun. Hard to eat, but still delicious. My other gripe was their onion rings. They were horrible. They are neither the heaviky battered frozen rings or freshly hand breaded. They were very greasy and not very tasty. The delicious burger was the only good part of this trip. Unfortunately for Papa Eric, I can get great options close by at Roscos and Border Burger Bar. A few fixes and this could be my top choice. read more

I love skinny patty burgers, green chiles, green Chile sauce on French fries, and crisp cold vegetables. Boom. 4 for 4. I just love this joint. Had the ridiculously large burger, can't remember the name of this grandote, (and it scares me to think of the person it's named after), with a couple of sliced weenies, chili beans, a beef patty, onions, lettuce, and tomato on a grilled bun. I've been living near this spot for around a year now, Piedras street is really a momumental street as far as Local favorites go. From Rincon de Villa to Kiki's, and House of Pizza to Papaburgers, i really do have a hard time deciding where it is i want to eat when i don't want to cook at home. I had put this place off until i felt would be a special Burger day, this idea that in one day i would hit up burger joint after burger joint until i had gone to all of the local favorites. Between never really putting time and money aside to do so I found myself never coming here, always putting it off for that legendary day. Today, well today was a rather weird day for me, I craved a burger, but I craved a burger that felt and tasted homemade. I've seen other reviews, and I understand them, most times we are able to just stay at home and make a better burger, a burger to our liking, at our pace, and at our budget. But, honestly, sometimes i just want to indulge in that burger without having to turn on the grill or bring out the flat top to do it in. So, due to that incessant craving I got in my car and I drove down the 2 minute drive. I actually passed the place twice, whether i wasn't paying close attention to the little Papaburgers sign, or whether the green color of the building made it seem just like another house with Palm trees outside, a couple of u-turns later and i was hungrier and more frustrated than when i had started my journey here. I arrive to my destination, open the door, and the first thing that catches my eye is the menu right above the cashier. 4 numbers, 4 options, 4 meals, that's it. With the In & Out memory quickly coming to mind I became excited to find out just how good this burger can be. I walk up and i find myself debating between a 1 (regular burger) and a 3 (their specialty burgers the Diego, Chiara & Andre). I had people behind me so as much as i wanted an explanation on what The Diego and the Andre were, and whether their fries are freshly cut in the morning or not, all that came out was "what do you suggest", the cashier looked me over and quickly said "You should get the Chiara". After a quick smile and an awkward laugh i got The Chiara to go with a soda and some fries (a.k.a. the number 3). The wait wasn't that bad, you could see the people here were enjoying their conversations, the restaurant decorated with local high school shirts and accesories as well as an El Paso Times piece mentioning the place, and a Texas monthly article speaking highly of this establishment. My wait wasn't long, even considering there was already a lady in front of me. I was a bit sad i was leaving the place to eat at home, but i had things i had to finish at home. Once there, and once the brown bag was opened, a glorious smell of toasted green chili hit me. The burger is a decent sized burger, and for The Chiara its the melted cheese and toasted green chili that give it it's unique appeal. I devoured it, it hit me like water would hit someone that was dehydrated, it felt right. Once done i quickly discovered what would make this a better burger, leave the tomato out, i know its what you put in all your burgers but even the lettuce felt off in such a warm and hot burger that is The Chiara. I plan to come and try the other specialties, But for now, i do believe this place stood up to its fame, their fries were a good company to the burger and honestly if you grade your burger joint by their fries, you are going to a burger joint for the wrong reasons. read more

To say these are the best burgers in town are a terrible exaggeration. I had the green chile burger. It was good however the fact is I could have mad it at home. I wasn't sure where the chile started and the burger ended. The meat was well prepared would I eat there again? No I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. The fries was what what really disappointing these were suppose to be chilli cheeses fries and the cheeses seemed to be old or something the dries were in need of salt! There I was. Sitting in a hole in the wall...yet freestanding building in itself...wondering "please let this be the one"..boy I couldn't have been more RIGHT! This place was not only extremely light on the wallet, it hit every spot I wanted touched by a burger joint. Bun was just the right amount of soft and thick enough to handle itself. The patties. Oh. Oh sweet jesus those patties. Obviously cooked on a flat top to crispy perfection. I mean the only way this burger would've been better is if God himself made them. Which I'm still convinced he might have. I got myself a double cheese burger with everything on it. No mustard or mayo though. Almost put ketchup in it but opted not to. That's a testament to how good this burger was. Just a great old fashioned burger. The chili cheese fries were really good as well. Kind of a Latin twist to the chili which I really enjoyed. All in all I'll definitely be returning here to eat. Very small local type joint. Good portions. Great prices. Great service. And obviously great cooks who know how to utilize a flat top properly...which is key when cooking burgers. I still remember the greasy looking bag, that was filled with a glorious old fashioned classic burger. It's flavor profile takes you back to your childhood, sitting in the back yard and chomping down on one of your uncle's back yard burgers. Looking at the place, you already feel welcomed. At least if you've ever had family that lived in central Chuco. Right in the heart of central and bordering northeast El Paso is Papa Burgers located at 2519 North Piedras, El Paso, TX, 79930 is another iconic burger spot beloved by many. It's since expanded, but the other locations never gave me the same experience the original location gives. Quaint, homey (no pun intended), small and filled with aromas that would give any burger aficionado goosebumps. It's also since changed its business name to PapaEric's after being sued by A&W for trademark infringement. To the loyalists... it'll always be Papa Burgers. All the socially distanced tables were filled with patrons -- reminded me of Rosco's charm. I ordered the first burger that caught my eye: The Chiara (kee-AH-rah) Burger. Fresh ground beef with LTOP, long green chile, Swiss cheese and mustard. The veggies placed under the patty and the chile and cheese on top. Stacked like how burgers should be. The buns are buttered and toasted on both sides. I saw the cook keeping a close eye on the flat grill. Looking for the perfect char on the burger patty I'm assuming. The patties look thin but they're smashed with intent and they don't lack flavor or softness. The green chile has that perfect roasted flavor. The kind your buela used to roast and use in her chile rellenos. Fresh LTOP and a strong yellow mustard. What separates this burger is the sweet, mild, nutty flavor from the Swiss. Not a lot of local EP burger joints use Swiss and I appreciate that. After it's all said and done this burger will go toe to toe with any other iconic EP establishment. I placed an online order i picked it up and checked the order it was wrong. So no big deal mistakes happen. i go inside and i say hi im sorry but i had ordered these with out X,Y & Z. the girl with an attitude said it doesn't say that on the system. I try to be nicer because this girl seems like she had a bad day. She repeats how the system doesnt show the things i didnt want and how the system does that sometimes. She basically keeps telling me oh well. i tell her im not being rude or ugle why the attitude and she chuckles and says i dont know what you want. I ask for a refund because that was my breaking point. She tells me no, because i ordered it online and they don't even get paid for that order. I ask for a manager and she tells me well no there isnt one. Im l ask for a phone number or something this is messed up ive been patient and nice and she says well what do you want i dont know what you want. Right when I walked in they call me jito, which I thought was pretty cool. Ordered 3 Papaburgers and some chili cheese fries to go from here...and MAN! The service was uber slow! They told me 15 minutes, but it easily took twice that, 30 minutes for a pick up?!? Whaaaa? Yes it was during lunch, but c'mon they should be used to this since there restaurant is decently small. I was just cruising on my motorcycle and this "heavenly aroma" hit me and I almost wrecked trying to look and see where it was coming from. The next day, was nearby so called my wife and we met for what must be the best hamburger I have ever had! The green chili was roasted to perfection and hot enough you could actually taste it. The meat was fresh and I suspect the veggies were local. The onion rings are prepared in batter and fried. Onions not strong but kind of sweet. The service was warm and friendly. If you go at lunch time. Be prepared to wait cuz it seats maybe 20 people and it is very popular. I can't wait to go back and insure that's is good as the first time I went. Stopped by and had the green chillin cheeseburger **** stars. Burger is fresh and delicious. Onions are a bit chunky and I prefer them grilled when they are chopped up. But that's a personal preference. The onion rings are amazing and I like mine a bit burnt in the ends, so I will ask that they let them Cook a minute longer.
