Review for Papa Gino's: I am beyond furious with my recent experience at Papa Gino's. I placed a $75 order, tracking it all the way to a promised delivery time of 9:33 PM. At 9:43 PM, I get a text saying my order was delivered. Spoiler alert: it wasn't! I called Papa Gino's only to be told to check my front steps. Trust me, there was no order there! Then I learn they send their drivers home at 8 PM and rely on DoorDash drivers to deliver. Seriously? That makes zero sense! After contacting the driver, I was told she delivered my order to the wrong house. When I asked which house, they had no clue. Apparently, she couldn't see in the dark and couldn't read the numbers. I mean, come on--if there's an issue, pick up the phone and call me! I waited another 10 minutes and called back, only to hear them tell me to go easy on the driver because she's a minor. At that point, I don't care! My food has been sitting outside for over 30 minutes, probably cold and crawling with bugs! They said the driver was on her way back, so I went outside, and what do I see? The driver driving off again! When I confronted her, she had the nerve to say, "Sorry, it's dark out, and Google told me your house is over here." She pointed to a different house, even though she had my address because I asked her to repeat what my address was! After asking the "manager" what they were going to do about this several times and an employee telling me they don't know what to do, they finally refunded my order! Seriously, I shouldn't have to explain that when I even get my food and even if I wanted to eat it, that they should rectify the issue asap! To top it all off, she told me to have a good night, and when I said I would try, she said, "bro, you're a b#%*#!" This was a DoorDash driver, not a Papa Gino's employee! I've ordered from Papa Gino's countless times, but after this nightmare, I'm done. If you're thinking of ordering from them, especially after 8 PM, think twice. Their delivery system is a joke, and the lack of professionalism is appalling. My food even smelled like a disgusting vape pen because she was vaping in her car! Say what you will about Papa Gino's as a chain, but they will always hold a special place in my stomach. That being said, PG certainly isn't without its flaws, however anecdotal and/or superficial. Alright, I'm gonna make a confession here which...might surprise a few people. I don't really come here for the pizza. So much. In fact, most of my orders have consisted of the steak and cheese sub or the occasional buffalo wings. Some might wonder why I like either. To be honest, there isn't anything remarkably significant about the steak and cheese, other than the fact that it's technically better than it has any right to be. Considering the fact that the steak itself isn't really seasoned all that much (unless you remember to request salt and pepper on your sub), it's still surprisingly enjoyable. It helps that they don't skimp on the innards. But if you want extra meat, that option is always available. Far as pizzeria subs go, this one's an 8 out of 10 for me. The wings are okay, but the breading is...eh, tricky to describe to someone who's never tried it. Kinda...spongy in parts? I dunno if that's the right word. What I'm saying is the flavors are all there, but the texture could use work. 7 out of 10, these are passable enough. So the main thing....I've never physically been to this PG until recently. Usually, we order delivery from here. But frankly, we end up saving approximately $15 just by driving a few miles and picking it up ourselves. Unfortunately since we have the everlasting propensity to be slackers, this does not occur very often. Other than that, the place was quite dead inside. Though, I suspect that's the fate of most PG locations now, since (I'm assuming) most people want their orders to-go. Also, like I alluded to before, the pizza just isn't as epic as it once was. Papa Gino's has never failed on delivering an incredible sub. They once again made an amazing Steak and Cheese with Teriyaki Sauce in the finally back by popular demand pocket. The bread is so fresh and the steak is just piled inside. I cannot say enough to how good their sandwiches are. Since they remodeled the restaurant with De Angelo's teaming up it looks really nice, super clean and inviting. I highly recommend anything from their menu but definitely a Steak and Cheese. My love for Papa Ginos stems from childhood and it's their pizza that sets my standard for any other pizza place. The very thin and floppy slices with toppings almost falling off such that you have to utilize all your fingers to balance that slice or even fold it just to get that first bite... sooo good! I live in MA, so my favorite location is down there, but whenever I'm here in this area and I want pizza, I will always choose this location. They have never failed my order, a XL Works, well done, with black olives. These guys actually make very good quality pizzas so props to the team for holding it down. Plus they're all very friendly whenever I come in to pick up my order. I usually order online and it's ready the exact time they estimated. Once I'm home, the pizza is still piping hot and that's the best way to enjoy it too! But anyways, I really hope this location stays open because they do it right! I was in last Friday and was greeted by Jenn who was very friendly and attentive and took my order. I had a chicken parm sub that was delicious. From what I saw of the staff everyone seemed very pleasant and the person who brought it to my table was also nice. (That goes a long way in my book). My one request is I wish the seats at the booth where I sat were more comfortable. I know its not restaurants fault, but how place is designed. Papa Gino's Merrimack NH (Continental BLVD) I made an online order 20 minutes before I went to the store to grab it (my house is 10 minutes driving from the store). When I arrived at the store, the cashier could not find my online order so I have to re-order and wait... My order is a simple sub and small fries. I waited patiently seeing people behind me getting their food and my hunger was growing badly. The store has a single cashier and 5 people in the kitchen (not sure what they're doing there). The cashier worked so hard to go back and forth to check for any order if it's ready, but I don't see people working in the kitchen care much. After 20 minutes pass, somehow they got my sub done, but my fries was served to the people behind me so look like I have to wait for (not sure how long). I could not wait any longer and was in hurry so I had to leave without asking for a refund. My order cost approximately $17 including taxes and I gave the remaining $3 for tip. But in the end, I have to leave empty hand with the cost of over 20 minutes wait, $20 lost, and no food. This is an extremely bad situation and I really do think the manager should be the blamed here. Do they ever try to learn from other successful restaurant like Chick-fil-A where they can fulfil a 20 cars' order in less than 10 minutes? I do believe the store owner should think about how to hire the right manager to properly train employees to work more efficient. read more

The best thing about this place is the free wifi I am using to write this. It took 5 minutes before anyone even came over to take our order. We ordered the all you can eat pizza dinner, which took about 10 minutes for us to get our pizza even though the pizza was just sitting in the warming display. First of all we order a sub from papa Gino's. He is disabled. He asked them if they can bring the sub in the house because he can't walk. They said yes they would. So he placed his order. He ordered his usual chicken parm sub which is usually $15.00. So about an hour later he checks his text messages. It was papa Gino's asking what door is his. He replied back and he called the store. They left outside knowing he cannot get it. He asked for another sub or refund and the ride manager said it's not their problem he can't walk. This is terrible customer service. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. The prices are too high. And they billed him for a Deangelo sub since they recently merged. He had to pay over $27.00 for one sub. Since the sale of Papa Gino's and deangelos to a major food service company in 2019 I've been worried for one of my favorite New England chains. Well, that day is now here. This location has officially adopted the new Papa Gino's/deangelos combination/merger and it's complete garbage. The new executives are former Papa John's/Dominos/Subway executives and it's clear as day. PGs used to make just about the best Italian style pizza you could ever get from a chain. It was better than Sabarro by light years, and not even in the same world as dominos. The pizza used to have a nice crisp bottom, fresh tasting sauce and good mozzarella. Now it's chewy cardboard with disgusting sauce that has no flavor profile and caked with thick plastic cheese. PGs also used to make the best cheesesteak in New England. Properly chopped ribeye, fresh cheese, and a nice hearty roll. The one I got tonight is indicative of the deangelos merger. Rubbery strips of beef from some random piece of a cow(if it's real beef at all), thick cheese likely with plastic, and the roll was a soggy mess that you can't even hold without it turning to a dripping mess in your hands. So sad, I grew up with papa Gino's, they were always expensive but the quality was worth it. Now they're no better than Pizza Hut/dominos/papa John's, if not worse...RIP to one of the last truly great New England chain restaurants. Do not eat here read more

We are longtime Papa Gino's fans. Years and years type fans...they were our go to pizza place. Never again. Worst pizza EVER. I know Papa Gino's is having trouble and has closed some of their restaurants, but this location has stayed open and USD to be consistently good. No longer. We ordered for take away an XL Works (we had a 50 percent off coupon). It looked good...was served hot...it was AWFUL. Dry (as in no sauce), crust undercooked so ingredients slid off, stringy onion strips, mushy peppers, meat non distinguishable from vegetables, no flavor... altogether it was like eating mush. Tried cooking it a bit longer at home...didn't help. We had two pieces leftover. Normally we'd save them for next day's lunch. Nope...threw them away. Staff in store were depressed, sullen, moving slow like they didn't care anymore. This order from this PG was their 2nd chance...epic fail. If you're going to close, do it already. read more

I work for a medium sized company, and every Friday we order food from somewhere for the office. Our usual place is Papa Gino's because it's good, it's easy, and they have so many different types, it pleases just about everyone in the office. The process is simple, I place the order online through our account, I get a confirmation email, and then they deliver - never had an issue. Except for today... Today, we waited for the delivery but nothing showed up. After around 15 minutes past when it was supposed to be delivered, I called them to check, and apparently our order had been lost in the system. I hung up and was discussing what to do with some coworkers when the manager called me back. He sincerely apologize for the mistake and assured me that he could have our whole order out to us in 30 minutes. I thanked him, confirmed the order and hung up. Obviously I was skeptical that we would get it that fast. I mean... how many times do you order pizza and they say 45 minutes for 1-2 pizzas? However, 32 minutes later, the delivery guy comes walking through our doors carrying about 12-15 pizzas and our 2 large garden salads. I was so impressed that they actually came through for us, so I had to write them a good review. It may be that they worked their butts off because we're regulars and they get pretty damn good money from us, but still. I am a huge fan of Papa Gino's Pizzeria. Growing up in the area I consider them the best pizza chain in the nation. I award them for their consistency in quality for franchise to franchise until now. I have eaten at the Merrimack location on 3 occasions. Two were below average the other time the pizza was horrible. They heated up slices for me to the point they were stiff like cardboard. The other two times the pizza was undercooked and gummy. read more
