Saturday night we randomly stopped by Papa Joe's Pizzeria in Riverside to watch some friends do karaoke, and I have to say... this cozy little spot completely surprised me in the best way. It's such a humble, warm neighborhood place, but the food? Truly a 10/10 comfort food moment. The pizza was so flavorful -- we ordered half pepperoni and half Hawaiian/cheese and every slice was amazing. The wings and potato wedges were delicious too, and I have to mention their house 1000 island, ranch, and even the ketchup... everything tasted so fresh and good. I ordered a pizza online. Went to pick it up. It hadn't even been prepared. OK. I'll wait. Finally went home with my pizza. Well, it was tasty. It had too much salt on one side of the pizza. Very salty. But I still ate. Here we are the day after. I got food poisoning. Really bad. I've been in bed all day Saturday. I think the black olives may have been bad. We normally will go to Papa Joes just to get a decent pizza and then to our surprise we got far from it this past weekend. It was cold, rainy, and the kid is having a sleepover so we ordered a pizza. The pizza was horrible. I felt like it was closer to cafeteria or airport pizza than what we normally get at Papa Joes. The pizza seemed like the dough was rolled out and then froze. We ordered BBQ chicken pizza with jalapeños. It was miss missing the jalapeños, barely anything sauce or cheese and just no flavor. As you can see it was as flat as a board and didn't even bend when holding it straight. The kids pepperoni didn't look much better We also ordered garlic bread. Didn't get pictures. It was a strange flat loaf of bread with some garlic dust sprinkled on top. It had no flavor. Just tasted like you were eating regular bread with a slight weird garlic powder. THIS is what customer service should be. This place went above and beyond. The owner, Eli, was fantastic. He knows how to run a business. On top of that, the pizza was delicious! We found our new pizza place, finally! For just the two of us and our baby boy, we ordered an XL pizza with beef pepperoni (so great that they have a no pork option) Onions and pineapple. And half with no cheese for me. It was the perfect size. We were stuffed! Everyone in this place was in such a good mood too and so friendly. Like everyone knew each other. We were lucky enough to come during karaoke night. So we really enjoyed watching everyone sing. (I'll get the courage to go up next time) And DJ Tai was so great and friendly. We had a large order of 4XL pizzas and 3 dozen orders of hot wings this past Saturday. We knew since it was a large order it would take a while. We were given an estimated time for delivery of 5-5:20pm which was a 1.5hr wait. The order ended up being delivered closer to 6:20pm with no revised estimates or calls. This is pretty unacceptable especially after paying $165 for the food and delivery. We won't be ordering from Papa Joe's again. read more
