Well needed a break coming out the Rocky Mountains westbound and found this fun place to get abducted or alienated.... LOL! I think the only man cashier working was already taken because he wasn't the friendliest nor personable guy. But I'm still giving the place 5 stars because I found it a fun, cool spot. It basically looks like the skin walkers, aliens and Sasquatch all could be possibly living in the basement of this fun snack shop. I seen people getting fuel and using the restrooms so it's a great place to take a break from driving in the middle of no where. This cool store has all different kinds of beef jerky including Prime rib, cowboy, rabbit, duck, alligator, kangaroo and a lot of other exotic animals. They also carry the Instagram famous "The Original Bag of Poo" cotton candy selection. Flamingo, Unicorn, Sasquatch, Alien Dragon types of Poo. They also have a lot of cool snacks, chips and cookies that have been made in other counties with American logos with Asian writing such as Oreo, Cheetos, Doritos and Lays. I also bought some Sour cream and Onion puffs snacks that has the Chester Cheeto cat representing Cheetos brand from Asia that were delicious as chips can be. The store is a bit pricey and a total tourist trap, but I find them all over country and I knew what I signed up for. It's a cool little place, but a lot of their stuff isn't priced so when you get to the register, it's a surprise. From the highway, it looks unique. Around the building it's definitely an eyesore. A lot of scrap on the side and I was even wondering if it was even opened. Then a straggler came out of the store. That's when we went in. They offered free samples of their unique jerky, but everything was empty. A lot of beverages were out of stock as well. The vibe for whatever reason gave an XXX vibe. Would I visit again? If it has more items in stock and priced. They did have a couple things that was out of dated (expiration), and the profession I'm in, I wanted to start looking for all outdated and pull them. We passed by here initially on our way into Moab earlier this year, and it immediately caught our eye. We regretted not stopping by here initially, but we got a second chance to come by here when we had to pass through the same intersection in order to go up to SLC. We weren't sure what to expect from here, but I guess it made sense that it would be a gas station with lots and lots of various types of jerky in the middle of the desert. Lots of candy and your regular gas station stop accoutrements as well. The jerky is a little pricey, but you're basically in the middle of the desert and near Moab, so things will generally be pricey anyway. If you spend over $50 or so, you do get a free gift (I got a mini alien parachute toy). read more

After missing our exit on I-70, a friend and I found place by accident. We both had to pee pretty bad, and were in desperate need of gas. With no cell phone signal, unsure of where the next pump might lie, and with full bladders jostling every which way, we pulled into the gravel parking lot, cratered with potholes, and sidled up next to a bright green pump. At a certain point, words fail to capture the grain of all experience, including transcendent limit-experiences like the ones you are likely to endure at Papa Joe's Stop & Go. Loitering outside was a pretty tough-looking motorcycle gang, rolling a dozen deep and looking mean as they leaned against the wall outside. As I opened the door, a slight stench of cat urine hit my nostrils, and my vision whited out as my retinas adjusted to the low-light space paint. After my head stopped spinning, I was able to feel my way towards the bathroom, which was flanked by full-size cardboard cutouts of Chewbacca and Han Solo. I did my business in the appropriately grungy bathroom and returned to the store to discover a number of cats roaming around. Some bikers and some tourists milled about looking at the insanely priced goods while a man who appeared to be stoned out of his mind minded the counter. I returned to the car to encourage my friend to go inside. They had already begun filling up our car. Gas was, at the time, around $5.30 a gallon, and it flowed in a glacial trickle out of the pump, so slowly that the price display on the pump's screen increased by about one cent every two seconds. By the time my friend returned from the bathroom, we had almost dispensed $1 of gas into our tank. Finding the entire situation both hilariously surreal and outrageous, we decided to stick it out for the next 25 minutes until we had filled up our car with $4.48 of Papa Joe's gas, and then left, driving zigzags through the parking lot to avoid the massive holes in the ground. This is a pretty cool place and I actually think it's one of moabs tourist attractions that you should stop and visit if you have a second or two. First off, if you pay attention to the price of the gas, you shouldn't complain about paying so much for it. Yes, they charge more than almost anywhere else I've seen but it's not like you don't know that ahead of time. It displays the price per gallon right there. Second, yes, it might be a bit dirty but that's kind of the vibe of the place and what makes it unique. It's grungy. And appropriately so. The bathroom looks dirty because that's what it's designed to look like! That's why it has all kinds of stuff on the walls and everywhere. The guy at the front who was managing the place was pretty grungy and scary looking. I half expected him to pull a gun on me or something but he was actually super nice. I really liked this place because it is so unique and odd. They have hundreds of different types of jerky and little snacks that I haven't seen anywhere else. The bathroom, decorations and even the props outside are just so interesting. I would just go to check it out. It's totally up to you if you want to pay for the gas or whatever else but at least you know in advance that it's purposely marked up. read more

Got prime rib teriyaki jerky (the sample was tasty)and several other packages - it was no more expensive than anywhere else (jerky is usually $25+ a lb) They also has freeze dried candy my kids had been looking for that was really good. Don't get gas here, the price is insane. If you're really desperate, get a gallon and drive to Moab/Green River. Luckily, I had gas, but I let the allure of the painted building draw me in. I grabbed a bag of jerky (they have Alien Jerky, from that place in Baker, CA), and 2 sodas. It was $20 for those three items. Ouch. I might as well just add another review to keep Papa Joe's solid 1 star on Yelp going. First, I've made the trip on I-70 in Utah a couple times already so I should have known better but poor planning and forgetting there is a 60-mile stretch from Colorado to Utah without any services ultimately led me to be riding my gas light as I reached exit 182 for Moab. That is where I was greeted by Papa Joe's Stop & Go, a place that is apparently "world famous" though the world may be another planet in another galaxy. The vibe is kind of cool if you're into aliens, general weirdness, and the feeling that everyone involved in this place is high, but as everyone in their reviews has pointed out, what is also high are the gas prices. It was $4.79/gallon on the day I was there. So, here's my advice if you find yourself in the situation I was riding the gas light. Pump one gallon of gas and depending upon which direction you are heading either get back on I-70 and go to exit 187 for Thompson Springs or exit 164 for Green River or if you are heading to Moab from exit 182 just head there. It will be at least $1.60 cheaper at any of those locations and get you headed in the direction you should be going unless you intended on hanging out at Papa Joe's which I'm not sure why you would want to do that. I paid for my one gallon of gas with cash and I'd advise you to do that as well. Sure, they accept credit cards, but do you really want to slide your credit card through a machine on a gas pump that also has a sticker of some cartoon of a dude that looks like he's been smoking weed all day? If you're already ripping me off on gas and you're an establishment that is way into drugs and aliens, I don't exactly want to provide you with my credit card information or really want to get to know you personally in any capacity. There was also a version of The Mystery Machine in the parking lot that looked all beat up and had flat tires. I guess a ghost finally got Shag and Scoob at Papa Joe's of all places. read more

I was recently reminded of a stop I made here a couple of years ago. I highly recommend avoiding this place. I was on a long road trip driving through the Utah desert at night and was low on gas. This was the only place I found anywhere near where I was. When I pulled up, the outside looked like a cross between a Rob Zombie movie and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I was actually afraid of getting out of my car and going inside the place. Inside was just as bad as it looked outside. My first impression when walking in was I half expected to see Leatherface or Captain Spaulding behind the counter and I didn't know if I'd make it out alive. Instead of Spaulding or Leatherface there was what looked like a teenage girl who might very well have been part of the Firefly family but fortunately she was too busy yapping it up with a friend of hers who was there to notice me and alert the rest of her clan that a meal had just walked into the store. Their gas prices at the time were more than double than any other stations I'd seen anywhere so I paid for just enough to get me, my GF, and our dogs the ##$% out of there as quickly as I could. The sodas and few items they had for sale were also insanely priced. Looking at some of the more recent reviews it looks like they might have done some minor painting and added the alien theme but based on the pics it still looks like nowhere you'd want to be at night. If you absolutely must go there, try to make it during the day. Not to mention, the prices are just ridiculously insane. Anyway, I remember that as I was driving away I looked in the rear view mirror and I could swear I saw someone standing there swinging a chainsaw around. And to this day I still suspect they had some corpses hanging on meathooks in the back of the store. read more
