Super small place, so you have to time it just right or be prepared for a bit of a wait. Food was FANTASTIC. Pizza crust was perfect, lasagna had great cheese and flavor, and the shrimps were 10/10. No complaints in the food department. I will say it definitely takes awhile to get your food and bar drinks, but I give them lots of grace since it was super busy and they were hustling! We will definitely be back!

I was there yesterday on st Patrick's day and the corn beef and cabbage was excellent! The music, the 2 person band was exceptional! Service was great too, I will definitely go again!

Went on a June mid weekday summer night. Place is small but the staff is quick with their service so not too long of wait times. We were told it would be 30 minutes for a party of 8 and it was right on time. Drinks are affordable (and they have happy hour). They had live music when we went. Enjoyed the pizza and sampler trip appetizer.

    Cajun oysters 10/10

Some of the best oysters I've ever had. Service was fast and wonderful. Pizza was also super yummy!! Everything came out fast and wonderful. Best happy hour I've ever seen too. M-F 11-7pm as of April 2026. Next time my family is visiting, we will 100% be coming back!!

It was so loud the waitress could not hear our orders. The Dr Pepper tasted funny, never got a new one. The waitress said she knew it would take awhile to fix it and offered a different drink. The food... wow, it was quite the let down. Based on the reviews I was surprised by how bland it was. It took a solid 45 minutes to get our order. My son's wings came out cold. Between the waitresses not acknowledging ANYONE nor the other staff it took longer to explain that the food was cold. For the 1.5 hours there we saw two other tables send their food back because it was cold. Fortunately, this is our last night in Alabama.

Incredible experience here! I visited with my mom and aunts the week of Sand In My Boots festival and had an awesome time. We were greeted warmly by both the Papa Rocco's staff and a rep from Kona Big Wave that gave us some free merch! The oysters were fantastic, they were huge and juicy. The pizza was also verrry good, we got the veggie pizza and added pepperoni. Can't wait to come back next time I'm in town. This is by far my favorite pizza and oyster joint around!

I have been a regular dine-in and to-go customer here for 40 years and have had some good times and made some great memories here. But sadly I am not been pleased with my last few trips and it's unfortunately not likely to return unless some changes are made, drastic ones at that. Papa Rocco's, has been a beloved Gulf Shores institution known for its pizza, oysters, and quirky atmosphere, and a local favorite since its establishment in 1985. Founded by Bill McGinnes, the restaurant gained a reputation for its unique slogan "Home of Warm Beer and Lousy Pizza," which has become a tongue-in-cheek trademark for this beachside eatery. Despite its humble beginnings and unconventional marketing approach, Papa Rocco's has been a go-to spot for good food and good times. Over the years, Papa Rocco's has endured challenges such as hurricanes and the ever-changing culinary landscape of Gulf Shores. In June 2024, they made headlines, and lots of buzz when they filed for a liquor license transfer from Papa Rocco's Pizza to a local business called KJJ Group, owned by Kenneth Jones. The transfer was debated and eventually approved by the Gulf Shores City Council, preparing for a new chapter in their history. Although ownership has changed hands, Papa Rocco's continues to operate at their iconic location just a short distance from the beach. They have added some comedy nights, and still the annual St. Paddy's Day Pub Crawl, a tradition started by former Pink Pony Pub owner Vince Murphy in the 1970s, has continued under Papa Rocco's banner since 1989, continuing that role in the Gulf Shores community. But the food is the big FAIL, as three visits ago I was very disappointed when I received one of my favorite dishes The Italian Combo with meatballs, spaghetti, lasagna, ravioli and manicotti. It was undercooked, under seasoned and cold inside, really incredible. My next visit has a decent stuffed mushroom dish but the pizza was overcooked and bland but I had to give them one more chance after a few weeks. My son was happy with their AYCE spaghetti Wednesday but my baked French Onion soup was just awful, like worse than a Campbell's soup in a can version and my meatball sandwich was not much better. To make it worse the service is just okay but is not as friendly and welcoming as it has been in the past. Bottom line: If the "new" Papa Rocco's is trying to live up to the Home of Warm Beer and Lousy Pizza marketing then I'd say their on target but it's a shame their just not the place we've been fond of for decades.

We have been here twice now because the pizza is amazing. The wait staff are incredible. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because it gets way too loud in there with the live music and people yelling at the bar in such a small building. It mostly just depends on who the live music is also, the first time we went, it was almost unbearable but this time was great! So glad we gave it a second chance!

Anyone know if they have king crab legs again? They used to a few years back, but last year they did not. Not sure if it was a temporary thing due to COVID or permanent. Also?l I thought the royal reds used to be shelled but last year they were not.

    Yes! Snow crab is back!

Our server, Michael was absolutely wonderful. (Plus he has amazing hair!) Anyway, we started with my Smoked Old Fashioned (It was ok, bartender went a little heavy on the bitters, and I should've asked for Bulleit Rye but that was my bad.) Anyway, Honey got a Black and Blue. Both came out super quick and we were instantly refreshed. We chose to sit in the patio bc the weather was nice and not too hot or cold. It was just right. We started with the ColCannon Boxty Appetizer. It is small balls of shredded potatoes that are fried, and come with a delish aioli dipping sauce. We chose to split the Shepherds pie for our main course. The meat gave me meat loaf vibes but with a ground beef texture and a unique aftertaste.. It was good, just the texture is unique! It came with a small portion of the Brown Bread with Garlic butter. It was good! We asked for more Garlic butter. It was delicious! We would've ordered a Creme Brûlée but we were both stuffed. It was overall a great place and we will visit it again. A must visit if you are in Orange Beach!

Coming for dinner on a Friday night, we were definitely concerned about getting a spot to eat. Parking is definitely limited, but we were pleased to find there was no way for a table outside. The weather was lovely and the music piped outside (often featuring Irish artists such as one of my favorites, Hozier!) made the whole atmosphere perfect. The inside is cute (albeit dim) and fulfills the pub fantasy. The ladies' restroom was clean. Our waitress was cheerful and fun. It took a little while for her to come get our drink order but after that she was johnny on the spot. The other waitstaff was friendly and professional too. My parents split the fish and chips, I got the chicken pot pie, and we split a side of colcannon. The sweet tea I had to drink was a little on the unsweet side for me, but I often find that's the case at restaurants on the gulf...further evidence that Florida/the gulf area is fundamentally different from the rest of the Deep South. Lol. My parents definitely enjoyed the fish and chips overall. I think my dad was hoping for a little more salt/seasoning in the fish breading but my mom was VERY pleased with hers. I'd never had colcannon before and thought what we got was just alright, figuring it wasn't really for me. My mom, who's tried it a few times different places, said she'd had a lot better. It had a pretty strong beer taste from the gravy on top. I'd be curious to try it again somewhere else and see how it compares. The shining star of the night was definitely my chicken pot pie. The crust was delightfully brown, the chicken was succulent and plentiful, and the sauce it swam in with the tender veggies was super flavorful and aromatic. It was perfect for a very slightly chilly evening. The brown bread served with it was absolutely delightful too, warm and rich and topped with delicious herb butter. I could easily eat a whole loaf. This was a great meal! Thanks for a unique and tasty dinner in Gulf Shores! I highly recommend the chicken pot pie to anyone considering it. :)

I have a few faves like the cheesy mushrooms and the BBQ shrimp, and nowadaya you can't just look at the regular menu. You have to check out their daily specials board because they are constantly knocking it out of the park with creative new dishes and fresh catches. The atmosphere is just even more welcoming, but the outdoor seating is much improved with some sand and stage, perfect for enjoying the coastal breeze. They updated their operating hours too, so they are now open daily from 11 AM to 10 PM. We were seated on the corner of the patio, which provided a beautiful view and a relaxing atmosphere. Several other guests warned us about aggressive seagulls, but thankfully they weren't an issue during our visit. To start, we ordered the buffalo dip. It was tasty and well-prepared, though it was fairly simple and something that could easily be recreated at home. For my entrée, I ordered the sourdough burger without onions and added bacon. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. My husband went with the Double Pony Burger, which was absolutely massive. He thoroughly enjoyed it and had no complaints. I also tried the Seven-Headed Dragon cocktail, which is similar to a Long Island Iced Tea. It was delicious, packed a serious punch, and is definitely not a drink to underestimate! Our server was friendly and pleasant, although there were a few times when he seemed to disappear for a while, and our food took a bit longer to arrive than we expected. Even so, the atmosphere helped make up for the wait. As we were finishing up, they were getting ready to start karaoke, which looked like it would be a lot of fun and added to the lively beach-town vibe. Overall, we enjoyed our meal, the waterfront setting, and the laid-back atmosphere. While service could have been a little more attentive, I would absolutely come back for a cocktail, an appetizer, and to enjoy the view again.
