Used to be the fish go place for years..went last night..worse meal ...the appetizer wahoo bites with panko had no taste....looked like chicken nuggets pre breaded with no flavor.....but were edible.. clams on half shell had more sand than the beach requested grouper blackened it came out and looked like tilapia and was over seasoned with salt..worst grouper I ever experienced..if it was grouper...my side was cajun wedges..came out and two were edible the rest were burnt and black, why would you bring them out...my wife had the king crab and they were served cold inside had to send back and reheat....this used to be a four star place...not now and would not return...sad dinner for what we paid..it should have been 4 to 5 star. read more

I stopped into Seafood World with my buddy Ted on his recommendation. It is a casual south Florida 80's style seafood place. I ordered the blackened Grouper, fries and coleslaw. The Grouper was marginal, kind of muddy tasting. Not bad, but not good. Would not order it again. The fries and slaw were just average. Ted ordered the Hog fish on a recommendation from our sever. It was plain grilled with just salt and pepper. I had a couple bites and it was amazingly fresh. Next time I will listen to the servers advice and not make the same mistake. Silly me! read more

This is my go-to seafood restaurant in the Pompano Beach area. They offer a wide choice of genuinely fresh seafood, . I almost always get the fried shrimp because they are so perfectly cooked. Lightly breaded and not overdone. Fresh fish, stone crabs and lobster are all delicious. Smembers are professional and friendly. You can't go wrong here. I like the tables in front of their retail seafood counter, but others prefer the dining room which is cozy warmly done. Valet parking is a real plus. read more

The only good thing I have had was the sweet potatoes fries. Coming from Maryland where the seafood is a staple in my diet, I was eager to visit with all the great reviews. I am now confused. Everything is deep fried about 4x over. Tasteless. Here's a run down of our order: Clam chowder-watery and bland. Calamari-was 'complemented' with what tasted like canned salsa. No seasoning you could just taste batter. Cracked conch- not sure where the conch was all I tasted was batter and even that needed salt. Maryland soft shell crab-soggy tiny crab shell with only the over powering taste of lemon for you to indulge. Fried platter-fish, conch, scallops and shrimp. Do. You. Not. Have. Seasonings. Back. There? Most mundane. Underwhelming meal. Really just should have opted for fast food. Probably the same amount of calories with a better taste. read more

We arrived a little before 5pm and we got a beautiful circular table with lots of room. I have to confess although living close by I haven't been here since the.mid eighties. I'm not sure why that is because I do love seafood!! I started with the shooting star cab and an order of the fried calamari which was delicious and cooked perfectly with a tasty Marinara dipping sauce. The batter was light and not greasy at all and the calamari was.very tender. The 3 specials looked really good but we ordered off the menu. Dad had swordfish livornese (greek olives, capers and crushed whole tomatoes) and fresh broccoli and I chose the grouper picata ( butter lemon caper sauce). Mine was served with bahamian peas and rice that had a great oregano taste and the peas were brown peas not green peas. It was very good. The fresh bread was warm and delicious and there's even a raw bar they opened 2 years ago that hughey's son runs. It's nice to see a family business! I included a photo because I had to go check it out. There is valet as well as self parking as the place fills up pretty quickly around 6 p.m. whether eating inside or outside by the Raw Bar. There was plenty of time to enjoy our appetizer without feeling rushed between courses. We did have a bit of a wait for out main courses. Maybe about 15 or 20 minutes. We did order them after we were almost through with our appetizer but I didn't expect the wait to be 20 minutes for entrees and that's why I took one star off for the longish wait for the main courses. The manager Miike came by to the table to make sure everything was fine and it was. I liked the swordfish a little better than I did my grouper..it was a tiny but fishy where as the swordfish wasn't fishy at all.The amount was generous on both dishes my grouper had to have about 4 pieces smothered in a delicious saucce. The swordfish steak was large and tender it was really delicious. I'm no connoisseur but the grouper ive eaten before didnt have a fishy taste and this had a slight hint of fishyness. It wasnt overpowering or anything and it was just one of the filets that was a bit off the rest was superb. My meal came with fresh broccoli as well which was nice. I'm kinda glad we were nearly finished when they sat a table of 8 near us with loud children. I don't normally complain about kids but the spoon serenade the little girl was giving was slightly annoying. We boxed our left overs and skipped dessert. I was a little upset when I had parked myself and the valet asked for my keys and broke my Key chain after I asked him to be careful with it. That took me some time to fix while my meal sat waiting for me. Luckily it wasn't cold when I finally got back to the table to eat.. the room we sat in was very cold and it made It a little uncomfortable (there are three rooms and the one in the back, farthest from the front door) but we didnt say anything. I thought the more the room fills up the warmer it would get. We will be back for the stone crabs we saw on the way out they looked awesome. Parking is a little cramped especially after 630 but we pulled away without getting caught in the valets parking line. Yelp does provide a 10% discount with your check in and we used it. This is my first review on Yelp. Since I use Yelp to research most restaurants I thought it was time to start adding my two cents to the discussion. We went to Seafood World this past Saturday night and were not disappointed. One of our friends ordered the lobster bisque and I knew after tasting it we were in for a good meal. I had the grouper with shrimps and scallops in a lobster sauce that was outstanding. My lady had the King Crab Legs which were tender and just right. The service was excellent including the busboy who was courteous and pleasant. One issue is I felt The price ($$) range in Yelp was not accurate. Not much to look at inside but you can't judge food based on interior ambiance. Resembles a sports bar minus the bar and televisions. Started off with a crock of New England clam chowder. Absolutely the best I ever had. Loaded with big pieces of clams in a white based cream base. Not your typical chowder which is loaded with potatoes. This was the real thing, creamy and delicious. Just one very minor flaw. I don't know if it was by accident but the soup had a slightly spicy kick to it. Not overpowering but just enough to sit on your tongue. I am not a big fan of heavy heat in dishes. For my entree. I had hognose snapper which is known in the fish industry as top of the line snapper. It was listed in the menu as blackened but I was able to get it plain grilled. Two huge delicious filets. It came with coleslaw and Bahamian rice with peas. Everything was served on a platter. I washed it all down with a refreshing iced tea. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices are moderate to expensive but worth it. Plenty of free parking. Restaurant is very clean. Note: There is a fresh seafood market on the premises to purchase and take home raw fish. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Very good seafood and service. Note#2: The food must be good. Excellent service, freshest seafood, friendly staff, top quality, casual dining experience family owned and operated for 40 years. While sitting in the front dining area, 2 local fisherman stopped in to arrange deliveries of items just caught in local waters, while the man brining in fresh stone crab claws handed over a bright bag of Jumbos! You might have to sit on the dock to get it this fresh. The selection of fish is not expansive, don't expect to get every type of fish ever pulled from the ocean, this place is local and prides itself that way. Starting with a cup of conch soup, literally served in a large coffee cup. Perfectly balanced flavorful of the sea and appropriately spiced with a mild Caribbean influence. I would have preferred a more daring and bold flavor, but I don't think their regular customers would favor that. A high price for the value, not too much meat, but it was satisfying in experience. Half dozen oysters on the half shell... Sourced from the Florida west coast. Small, sweet, smooth and yummy. Just a bit of lemon from the wedge and these hit the spot. Didn't care to have a marinara sauce in a to-go container accompanying the plate, should have been in a dish, not sure if they recycle... Moving onto a fresh local caught white fish, lemon and wine marinade, recommended by the knowledgeable waitstaff. Not a classical or recognizable formula, maybe an adaptation with less butter and more wine, but the right amount of lemon. The fish was perfectly cooked, slightly meaty, sweet white and just flaky enough. Homemade key lime pie anyone? According to my server, prepared by a family member, kept chilled in the cabinet, cool, but not cold, served with whip cream from a can. Heavy and thick like a cheesecake, and light on the flavor. I typically prefer it more tart, and after a fish dish, that would have been preferred. Finished the meal with a pleasant conversation with another of the waitstaff. An employee that loves her job, the owner and has a real respect for the quality of the customer experience is a good sign that every meal served here is to a quality level set by the owner. Seafood World Market & Restaurant is the type of seafood that Florida was once known for. I had drivin by a number of times but always thought it was a seafood market which it is. Then one night I was watching Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. The show was about a French restaurant a few doors down. Through the course of the show Gordon Ramsey went into a restaurant a couple doors down to compare service with the "Nightmare" restaurant service. The restaurant wasn't named but I recognized the store front. Mr. Ramsey also commented on how good the food was. A couple days later I decided to give Seafood World a try. I've been back 3 times in the past week. The food is old Florida / Caribbean cooking at its best. My favorite is the conch sandwich with the peas and rice as a side. The snapper is also outstanding. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was almost ready to give 4 stars due to the prices, but it's seafood in a somewhat pricy community. The food easily rates 5 stars. It doesn't look like much but remember looks can be deceiving. The market also looks to have a excellent selection of fresh seafood. read more

Made a 6:00pm on a Monday nite 8/11/14 reservation. Didn't know they opened what they call a raw bar, just a few doors down. It really was a sushi bar . Sushi chef heard us say first time here and he gave us each a small spicy like seaweed salad . Walking up it still says in colored spay paint grand opening . But we we're told they have been open for a while . Now @Seafood world . Nothing fancy. Good food . If I was the chef I would not have let that sweet potato leave the kitchen all n all food good . Everything you order here is going to taste delish! If you don't like swordfish, then don't order it. They make the freshest fish (any way you want it) but they don't make magic. It is pricey but that goes with any real, good seafood restaurant. To start with, I enjoy the soups. I have tried them all. I like the spiciness of the Bahamian Conch chowder with a drop of sherry. The clam chowder is awesome with plenty of clams; and the lobster bisque is wonderful if you like creamy and chunks of lobster. Goes great with the warm baguette served on the table. I have posted a pic of the killer BLT sandwich. It is my personal fav aside from the pricey stone crabs or surf n' turf. The combination of the [award winning] jumbo lump crab cake with a hearty cut of blackened mahi plus all the traditional BLT fixins and a dab of chipotle mayo is genius! You can eat it messy in your hands or take it apart like I do. It's just too big for my mouth to fit around! We took a slice of homemade chocolate cake to go and surprisingly it was pretty dam good, and moist. The key lime pie must be good too because they have it individually packed available for sale in their "homemade seasonings and sauces" refrigerator. 3.75 stars. This mom and pop joint is the place to get seafood in pompano/deerfield. I could swear the fisherman get the fish fresh from the ocean to the cook to your plate. You're paying for the food here, this isnt a great dining experience as far as scenery or people watching unless your kind of scene is the bottom deck of a pirate ship. The inside is small, they have 2 seperate rooms but only 1 respectable one. Theyre going to charge you a pretty penny but you get your dollars worth in food and service. The free french baguette is real good and so are the crackers, and theyre even better with the conch chowder and lobster bisque. The conch chowder has a good kick to it especially with one of the many hot sauces they provide, the lobster bisque has chunks of lobster but it is a little to oily. Last time here the chowder wasnt as hot as it should be and thats a big turnoff. The Killer BLT is damn near preventing me from trying anything else on the menu. It comes with blackened mahi topped with a really good crab cake, one of the best ive had. The portion and the quality make the price tag worth it. Blackened shrimp is tasty but Prime 112's jumbo shrimp has ruined every shrimp dish ive had since by setting the bar so high. They have daily specials that i've tried but i wouldnt recommend because they surely werent touching anything on the regular menu. Our waitress showed us the mahi parmesan stuffed with crabmeat and it looked amazing. The service is exactly what you want when eating out, its true appreciation only found at a mom and pop place, but at the same time the service is what it should be due to the price they charge. Totally disappointed! Got a table right away but then nothing for over 15 minutes. Finally, a person brought us a bread basket but he wasn't our waiter. Saw someone in the kitchen cleaning shrimp, and then without washing his hands served a table their meals...as it turned out he was our waiter,nice person but dysfunctional. Another 15 minutes went by before we had drinks. The bread man seeing us still waiting and that we had wiped out all the bread...brought us another basket. The fish was fresh but the price is to high for the atmosphere, the quantity of food and the extremely slow service. If you love bread it's defiantly the place to go. read more

Seafood World is the place to be if your in the mood for seafood in Ft. Lauderdale. Yes the name is incredibly cheesy, as is the restaurants decor. That said, this place has some of the best seafood outside of the mid and upper atlantic with great prices and incredibly friendly service. We had a reservation here and were sat immediately (the reservation probably wasn't necessary). We were promptly greeted by our server and offered drinks and appetizers. I was feeling saucy so I ordered a Corona and half a dozen oysters while the ladies ordered crab stuffed mushrooms. The oysters were monstrous and extra slimely. The waiter gained street cred when he brought me extra horseradish after I decimated my first batch. The stuffed mushrooms were kind of watery and just mediocre. For dinner we had Alaskan crab legs, shrimp, and broiled scallops. The crab legs were monstrous and very heavy and delicous. I used so much butter that it was dripping down my chin and embarrassing the ladies I was with. The shrimp were also good because they were steamed with old bay. Lastly, the scallops were also incredibly as they were broiled in what seemed to be a vat of butter. No joke, when I left this place my heart must have been at 20 beats per minute. I ate that much butter. After dinner we decided to pass on dessert here and go to Kilwin's. Our waiter was cool about it and delivered and dealt with our check real quick. Date of visit: Sunday July 1st Overall Papa Hughie's was the best Seafood experience I've ever had. The service was super friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and casual while the food was top quality. It's a li'l on the pricey side for me, but so definitely worth it. The restaurant has a dark, rustic and cozy vibe. The interior consists of dark woods, and creaky plank floorboards that lend it character. It's a place where the dishes are polished but the floors are not. It's also a wholesale seafood market. There's nothing more reassuring than walking in and seeing the busy seafood counter stocked with the catch of the day: enormous stone crab claws, scallops, squid, you name it - all ready to be sold or prepared for lunch. Good sign. The boyfriend and I stopped in for an anniversary lunch after spending the morning kayaking nearby. When we walked in the server greeted us warmly and asked if we were there for the wine tasting. Wine tasting? Score. We let her know we were there for lunch but that we'd love to check out the wine tasting. She and another server escorted us to the tasting area, and told us to feel free to mingle before, after, or between courses. They had a separate, slightly brighter/more polished back area set up for the vendors with an array of nibbly bits which the restaurant had catered. We took a quick tour around, eating with our eyes before going back to our table to order lunch. Being that boy had been here a couple of times before; he went with some of the recommended favorites, while I ordered some of my benchmark standards. He started off with a mug of the Bahamian Conch Chowder [$4.95] (This surprised me... because he's a Bostonian and I thought fer sher he'd go with the Clam Chowda - 9 years and you think you know a person.) The chowder was meaty and savory, the conch was firm but not tough. However, what really made it was a touch of sherry vinegar that was brought to the table along with the order. It was another pleasant surprise, the nice little boost of flavor that was and how it rounded out all the flavors. Make sure you try it with your order. I ordered the 1/2 dozen Oysters on the Half Shell [$7.95] I love shellfish and raw oysters are a good measure of freshness and overall quality of product used. These were briny, plump, fresh and clean. Not a trace of grit, no cracked shells to chip a tooth on, no unsightly barnacle looking things that I remember and - attention to detail - they had already been pre-separated from the shell for my slurping convenience. It really is the little things that make me happy. I could've easily had 2 dozen more but I was trying to save myself for the rest of the meal, and the wine tasting. Main Courses: Boy had come here on a mission fer hogfish, which apparently everyone in his office had recommended. Hogfish isn't always available so it is a special treat when you can get it. The menu lists Hog Snapper Francaise [$32.95] as an entrée but Hugh had recommended it Livornese instead so that's what he went with. The fish was expertly prepared, cooked beautifully, moist, fork tender and melt in your mouth. The Livornese sauce was lovely but I did find the fish a little mild for my taste. 's why I usually stick with my shellfish. I ordered the appetizer portion of the Grilled Lump Crab Cakes [$16.95] For the money, I got two large fluffy, ridiculously meaty crab cakes. I was so delighted I think my eyes rolled back and my eyelids fluttered for a second on the first mouthful. They were so good I hardly touched the mustard sauce they came with, and I'm usually adamant about my dipping sauces. I immediately wished I had ordered the entrée portion. Our lovely waitress came to ask about our dessert order. She recommended the Key Lime Pie "it'll be the best you ever had." How can you have all that seafood and not finish it off with key lime pie? So we ordered it but asked her to hold it until we'd had some time to check out the wine tasting in earnest. We spent fifteen or twenty minutes trying wines and chatting with the vendors who spoke highly of the restaurant and its owners. They mentioned that the wine tasting was only one of several free, open to the public events that Papa Hughie's likes to host as a way of saying thanks to their patrons. They were featuring wines that were either already available on the menu or looking to be added to the wine list and everything was available to order by the bottle or the case at wholesale prices. When one of the vendors also recommended the Key Lime Pie to us, we decided it was time to go back and enjoy dessert, then she gave us a couple of glasses of a nice white to pair with it. We got back to our table, waved to the waitress and the pie came to the table shortly thereafter. It may have been slightly over chilled because I didn't get a lot of the Key Lime flavor right away, but it did build on the palate and it was exceptionally smooth and creamy. Best I've had? I ate at Seafood World several times already. I have tried their fish and chips, the blackened swordfish, mussels, Oysters, the lobster bisque, and a shrimp platter I don't remember the name. All I can say about it is, even though it may seem a little pricey, it doesn't count that much because you can taste the freshness of the food. It is very hard to go out and find fresh seafood, even at fine dining restaurants... In regards to the staff, I don't have any complaints. I am a type of person who doesn't expect extraordinary receptions, but the lady who served all the time I went there was very attentive!! read more

I've been looking forward to stone crab for quite some time. Very impressed with the service and atmosphere. However, the Stone crab I had was bad and the only response was an apology and two adjust it off of the bill. The server blamed it on the distribution company. I found that to be cowardly and inappropriate as the point-of-sale was taken place at this location. The crab meat was dark green color with almost black around the outside closest to the shells which in my research I found to be representative of bad handling. I noticed my issue the first claw, later my dining partner was on crab claw 3 when she realized something was wrong as well. She couldn't eat anymore. Two stars because the remaining 4 stone crab claws were not adjusted off. We are grateful we didn't fall ill. read more

We ate at Papa Hughie's Seafood World last night (because my cousin started working there - thank you Jill for the fantastic service) and as suspected, Papa's did not let us down! We are regulars of Papa's Raw Bar and are so glad we went to Seafood World for dinner. The Hogfish Francaise was to die for! All our seafood was the freshest and absolutely delicious. We had blackened swordfish, fish & chips, hogfish Francaise, Brussels sprout hash (yum!), onion rings (best we've ever had!), salad and Bimini bread. Both a restaurant and seafood market makes for a great combination. We ordered take out from the market, which included a dozen Conch fritters fried to perfection with wonderful creole spices served with cocktail sauce, in each bite you can taste nice conch chunks. We also ordered a pound of medium stone crabs which are only found in the keys and Miami area. Served with a creamy mustard sauce, the stone crab was great and you really do not need to order the large claws as the medium ones are big enough. In previous trips here, I ordered the gator tail which is served with a southwest sauce, which is also really good. The menu is pricey, but this is to be excepted with fresh seafood and the restaurant located so close to the ocean. read more
