I had the Tom Kha soup with shrimp as an appetizer. I was instantly impressed with the quality of the shrimp and the flavor of the soup was on point. I have had this at other places and the shrimp typically comes overcooked and rubbery. These were large tender, juicy shrimp and cooked perfectly. The sashimi was fresh and larger than usual. I stayed over a friend's house and wanted to grab lunch before heading home, so I googled Thai food and came across Yamu Thai. The reviews were good, so I decided to give it a try. I sat by the window, and the first thing I noticed was a dead bug on the side of the window, which was a huge turnoff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waiter came over and took my order. I got the spring rolls and the vegetable Pad Thai with no egg. The food was actually delicious, and the prices were very reasonable. One thing that disappointed me before ordering was that I was expecting a lunch menu because that's what I saw online, but there wasn't one available when I arrived. I ended up packing the rest of my meal to go and later had it for dinner the same day. We didn't realize where this restaurant was located when we set out to come here. But we recognized the small shopping center as a place we'd been to before when we pulled into the lot. It's right along the water just south of the Hillsboro lighthouse. Inside, the restaurant is charmingly decorated. Each place setting has a napkin folded in the shape of a rose flower. The restaurant itself is small. And its family owned and run. Every item is cooked to order. The menu has both Thai offerings and Japanese cuisine. And we had a bit of both. We started with soup. My husband had their tom kha soup with vegetables. He said it was excellent. It was the first time he'd tried this soup with just vegetables. The spice level was "just the right amount of heat". My meal came with a choice of miso or wonton soup and I chose wonton. This was the Thai version with a light, clear broth (not that yellow stuff) and some tender wontons. There were pieces of Bok choy and scallions in it, too. After that, my husband had a salmon and avocado sushi roll. He liked it a lot. And he said the rice was perfectly cooked to hold together. I had their shrimp with mixed vegetables in a brown sauce. There was broccoli, cauliflower, Bok choy, zucchini, et al, along with lots of steamed shrimp. We recently acquired a property down the street, like walking distance, so we occasionally find ourselves in lighthouse point. We've been here probably 5-7 times in the recent past. Not only is the food beyond every expectation I've had. The service is top notch. Somehow the front of house recognize my wife and I the second we walk in. This was :Yellow" Curry which you do not find here in the US but you can find in Thailand when you eat from the street vendor. And that is typical to do when over there. It is simple, basic, fresh and has a touch of spice as it is even cooked with Coconut Milk and ginger. So, I had to have that. We also had an order of Pad Thai. It was cooked as expected in a special wok. The noodles where thin and freshly made. There were some veggies mixed in, and a fried tofu. Once more, this is the way they make it in Bangkok from a street vendor. It is the meal to have when you want to stop, eat and go. But the way it is made here you do not get in other establishments. This is the way it is made in Thailand. Of course, to start it off we did have a Japanese Salmon roll. It was fresh. The rice was ideal. It was light, tasty and perfect roll to have before we started. Overall this was an ideal meal. Just perfect. Not heavy. I could even make a soup out of the curry it is so rare to have. This establishment is on the smaller side (roughly 6 tables). In the particular night my partner and I dined there it was under staffed. There was one guy, Joseph, working all tables and take out. He was working hard and keeping a positive attitude while doing it all. The food was really good and since we were not in a rush this was a perfect date night spot for us to relax and enjoy each others company. I'd like to come back again the food was good and you can walk to the inlet after dinner which is perfect way to end a great meal. Tried Yamu Thai Japanese restaurant for the first time today. I got sushi, but started off with crab Rangoon. The crab Rangoon's were very tasty, but such a small portion as the Rangoon's were tiny. And then proceeded to get the sushi and sashimi combo. It was pretty pricey at $35 for the amount of sushi that I got. It was though very fresh and very tasty! The atmosphere was very small with a total of six tables, but I was the only one there in the beginning, but then the place filled up with for more tables, so it started to feel pretty cramped. The selection of food was very good on the menu as you can see I posted the pictures of the menu. It's just some of the items were pretty expensive for what you got, and in comparison to other several sushi places that I've gone to in the past it was not the best value. I was also somewhat hungry after, so I ended up getting a crunchy tuna roll. Although the company is just about six months old, they are starting to thrive so I think that their prices, although seem somewhat high, are probably consistent to what Thai and sushi restaurants are for this area. The host was very cordial and friendly, sometimes difficult to understand, but nonetheless worked very hard to keep everyone happy. read more

I will start with the lowest rating. This place is the definition of a hole in the wall. It is so very very small inside. When I first walked in, I realized I was at the wrong sushi restaurant that my husband had tried to send me to but I couldn't think of a good excuse to leave after being seated. So I stayed. The server was a sweetheart. I think TJ? He was very polite and welcoming. My only complaint with him was he was a little TOO comfortable and got some ordering wrong. I ordered a drink, and he brought me the low calorie version. Another time, I ordered salmon sushi and he asked if it was tuna sushi and I said no no, salmon. Then tuna sushi came out and I believe he believed I ordered that and it was my fault because he told me "it's okay" but I never ordered that. I exclusively order salmon regardless of where I go. Then he opened my chopsticks, broke them apart and rubbed them in his hands fast to get the wood pieces off for me, but all I was thinking was his hands just rubbed all over my eating utensils!! Food wise, it was not bad sushi. The presentation was very well done. They were not HUGE nor small servings, but overall, I would never return or recommend to friends. I usually recommend a place that is THE BEST and this one is not that. If you want a quick meal though, you could potentially get in and out quickly if you order when you sit since there's only 6 tables or so. I'm not sure if this place changed hands recently, but I really do not understand the high marks for this restaurant, which I would say is the worst Thai/Vietnamese/Japanese food I have ever had, and I don't believe a restaurant should tout having sushi when they have only 5-6 types of fish. We arrived around 12:30 and were the only people in the restaurant the entire time. Our table ordered the duck soup noodles, pad see ew and miso soup. We tried ordering sushi, but none of the fish we wanted was on the menu. Someone should get rid of the sushi menu on yelp, since they definitely do not have any of those items on their new and limited menu. Ironically, they have a picture on the wall of a full sushi selection and yet don't have 90% of those items. In any event, everything we ordered tasted like it had been soaked in a salt brine for 24 hours. The only thing we could taste was salt. The pad see ew was pure salt. And they didn't have the right rice noodles for the dish, so just used pho noodles. It was awful. My broth tasted like oyster sauce, fish sauce and soy sauce only. It was hardly edible and I almost considered eating none of it but we were coming from out of town and I didn't want to go to another restaurant. Ironically, we ultimately went to another restaurant and had a second lunch because the food was inedible. I note that when we arrived, the guy said we could sit anywhere we liked outside, but we were a table of 3 and all the tables had 2 chairs. He didn't bother to set up a table for 3 so I guess he expected me to find a third chair from another table and set it up myself. Terrible service. I can see why the restaurant was deserted. Save your taste buds and blood pressure and go elsewhere. read more
