We just moved from Denver a few years ago so always looking for good eats! We decided to check out a neighborhood that we've never explored ourselves and we had such a great time. We took the Mississippi Ave Tour and really enjoyed the different eats that was picked out for us! We started at the food carts and had some delicious BBQ then walked a couple blocks and got to try this delicious glass noodle salad and local wine. Honestly, I was pretty full already from those first two stops but we had two more to go! We ended up going to a local brewery as well as a dairy-free ice cream shop! Being lactose intolerant, I was ECSTATIC to know that this ice cream place was all dairy free! Everyone was pleasantly surprised at the texture of the ice cream and the different flavors that was offered! Being locals we weren't sure what to expect in a group setting but everyone was a joy to be with. Our group consisted of friends celebrating a birthday and a married couple that was visiting for the weekend from Seattle. Our guide Heidi lead us on a delicious trip around Portland and cannot wait to attend her other tours or even possibly her food tours abroad! It was such a pleasure to spend a lovely Saturday with Heidi.

Ariel, our tour guide, immediately won points in my book for being both an artist and a New Mexican native. These traits are not what made her an apt, knowledgeable, or personable tour guide, per say, but they're what made me see my reflection in her mirror. "Hey! I'm an artist (writer) from New Mexico and a food tour guide, too!" With that said, Ariel did an awesome job. She knows her history, her food, her city, and has a fun personality to tie it all together. Our group was a mix of locals and travelers, solo eaters (yours truly) and a group of friends. We all got along great, and enjoyed every stop. What I enjoyed most about this was 1) the location. Mississippi Ave is a gem! Get out of downtown and explore this place! 2) the diversity of dining. I'm not well-versed enough in Korean Mexican food to know what to order at a food cart, same with Thai cuisine (um, Pad Thai? Yes I am that uneducated), so I was glad to have a great dish handed to me. Also, I liked the balance of savory, sweet, and even vegetables, and the fact it moved like a progressive meal (salad, appetizer, main, palate cleanser, dessert). I definitely recommend!

Not true with this company. Herb S. really knew his stuff - both about the food, the food carts, and Portland. He was entertaining and easy going and made the time fly by. Tour guide Ali (also the owner!) is passionate about sustainable agriculture of all kinds - other tours go to farms and dairies. This one is all about seafood - we learned to filet a fish, how to hold a live crab safely, how to go crabbing from a dock, and how to shuck an oyster. There was plenty to eat! I didn't need dinner when lunch happened at all 3 stops - a starter of chowder at stop one, cheese platter and a whole crab at stop two, and raw oysters at stop three. Also - Oregon wine & beer. The quality and flavors of the food and drinks were fantastic. Our group was diverse with vegetarians, vegans, meat eaters, adults of all ages and young children. Everyone ate well and had a great time. The tour also included art, history, glimpses of the beautiful St. John's bridge and a opportunities for shopping with a nice little bonus that some businesses provided special discounts to the tour group. Jasmine was the best tour guide, she is clearly very passionate about her neighborhood and supporting the amazing small businesses in her community. She arranged a private tour of the Dandelion Chocolate factory, where we learned about their bean-to-bar process and (of course) tasted a variety of their products. Kara also sourced a number of bars from other chocolate makers, guiding us through the tasting process in a fun, educational, and non-intimidating way. By the end we could all differentiate between flavor notes like floral, earthy, nutty, and citrus. Highly recommend!!

A friend and I bought a ticket for the holiday crawl this past Saturday and had an absolute blast! We visited 8 places all around the SE and E side of Portland. We started out at Grön. Then we visited Rolling River Spirits, New Deal, Cloudforest, Bee's and Beans, Alma Chocolates, Staccato Gelato, and then ended at Cup and Bar and Ranger Chocolate. We got to try some specialties at each shop and each shop gave us a little mini education about their sourcing and creations. Each shop gave us a takeaway treat, too! It was extra fun because there were little contests and prizes you could win along the way. It was also nice walking off the calories between stops :). I am looking forward to trying another tour and would highly recommend it. I'm including a picture of the goodie haul. Everything in the pic was a treat from the shops (aside from the Cloudforest bars which I purchased myself).
