Pappas on the Lake is one of my favorite spots to grab a meal with an amazing view. The food is always great, the Bloody Mary is hands down one of the best I've had, and you simply can't beat the views overlooking the water. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The only downside is that the plastic outdoor tables could use a better cleaning. They were noticeably dirty during our visit, and keeping them cleaner would make the experience even better. Other than that, the service, food, drinks, and location make this a place I'll keep coming back to. read more

We ate at Papa's earlier that afternoon and later returned by boat to reach our car. I had a backpack containing sealed water, soda, and chocolate bars. Staff refused to let us walk directly through, even with an employee escort, and said we should be dropped near the Jack in the Box down the road instead. I ultimately threw away the contents so we could get to our car. I understand a no-outside-food policy for dining guests, but refusing escorted passage to returning customers was unreasonable and poorly handled. The food was disappointing as well. ZERO food or alcohol licensing would have been violated for me to walk to the door. I did the research. Policies should guide how you serve people, not replace basic human decency. read more

(See review from Jul 9, 2025) Let's try to unpack this: - Initial 4 star visit last July: 1) beautiful location on Lake Conroe 2) darling server 3) certified service dog that was warmly welcomed after proper federal and Texas ADA compliant questions were asked 4) a really fun and memorable experience - Recent visit: 1) much enthusiasm to return here after giving them a great review last July for a splendid experience 2) another darling server who professionally inquired about my friend's service dog 3) darling server then seats us accordingly 4) darling server cheerfully takes our drink orders while we perused the food menu 5) a few minutes later, a hostile young woman with a major scowl on her face approaches us and snidely makes ill-informed remarks about the very same service dog that was welcomed in the initial visit 6) this dismal individual quickly realizes she doesn't possess the ability to hold an intelligent conversation regarding ADA criteria and petulantly retreats back behind the bar 7) we weren't asked to leave, but accepting or rewarding her petty nonsense was not going to happen...so we voluntarily left in a polite manner No further time was wasted to determine if this individual was either a manager or a bartender on a cheap power trip, but a little consideration for your servers would be prudent. Came for a fishing tournament and was excited to get food and drinks with friends as it looked like a happening place, however, I was bombarded by two waitresses at the same time talking to me and I tried to order a sweet tea and they only have en sweetened tea. Is this even Texas? So then I was going to do unsweetened tea and just get Splenda with it and all they offer is sweet n low lol. So I ordered a Coke zero and water instead. They were very aggressive about requiring me to present a credit card to start a tab and all I ordered was a water and Coke zero and asked for a food menu. They didn't bring a food menu out and I had to ask for it. The whole thing was weird and I decided to leave and go eat somewhere else. Absolutely do not recommend and if any management reads this you guys need to have a different process in place and there's no reason you should have two servers coming to the table at the exact same time talking to the guest and causing a ruckus like they did. read more

My family has been coming here for over 20 years. We've watched ownership change and have continued supporting this business despite its recent decline because we genuinely wanted it to succeed. Our experience this week was the first time I've ever felt compelled to leave a review. After about five hours by the pool, six adults had shared four buckets of beer, along with multiple rounds of appetizers and food. When our server decided to stop serving alcohol, that wasn't the problem. If she truly believed we had been overserved, we would have happily paid our bill and called an Uber. Safety should always come first. The issue was that she told us my father was slurring his speech. My father is a stroke survivor and has a permanent speech impairment. We explained this immediately. From that point on, no one seemed interested in listening. The conversation became about defending the decision instead of acknowledging the impact of mistaking a disability for intoxication. When we asked to speak with a manager, no one even came to our table. We eventually had to get up and approach the manager ourselves. The apology we finally received felt like an obligation rather than genuine concern. What should have been one of the few full days I got to spend with my dad during his visit ended on a painful note. Not because we were denied another drink, but because no one showed the empathy or professionalism to simply say, "We're sorry this happened." After more than two decades of loyalty, I left feeling that our business no longer mattered and that my father's dignity mattered even less. You lost a customer who spent years defending this place while others criticized it. I hope treating loyal guests this way was worth it. read more

This place is so inviting on the outside and the location is amazing! However, as soon as you approach the front door, you're met with dozens of "No" signs. I get rules...we're rule followers...but really? My 2- 20 year olds and their boyfriends were standing rigid as if they had just been disciplined because they weren't 21 and couldn't get a table without me being there (I was on my way after parking). Inside, we were met with DOZENS of more "No" signs. Waitress was super nice, food was Meh, but the atmosphere was completely destroyed by all the "No" signs. Go for the beer and the view. The pizza...not so much. The patio is fantastic. On a hot day, your legs will stick to the chairs but in the evening, you couldn't beat the view of the lake. The house chips were good and the beer was cold. The chips had a nice seasoning. I've seen glaciers move faster than our waiter returning with drinks. Speaking of drinks--mine tasted like regret and hose water. The food? Imagine someone Googled "how to make nachos," closed the tab halfway through, and winged it. Soggy chips, cheese like Elmer's glue, and chicken that must've been cooked during the Bush administration. The ambiance? I'm writing to complain about the service I received yesterday when I arrived there yesterday at 1:45pm. The place was pretty empty. I would say maybe 6 customers, so you were in need of business. I had my service dog with me and the manager (a rude woman with red hair) told me I had to leave because no pets allowed. The waitress (who probably really wanted to make some money) told me to inform her my dog is a service dog. I told her and informed her I have a card I can show her. She said to me "ADA ANIMALS DON'T HAVE CARDS SO I KNOW YOUR DOG IS JUST A PET." That is blatant discrimination but I left without showing her the card because I no longer wanted to give them my business. We went next door to Conroe Lake House, it was very busy and we have a fabulous day. read more

For a lakeside open air bar, you would've thought they'd advertise themselves to be classier but to be frank, they weren't. For one thing, the service was less than desirable. The food wasn't that great either. The pool was a sorry excuse of a pool, the volleyball "court" was a soggy grassy mess, and frankly, not the best option for a first timer at Lake Conroe. Let's start with the service. I don't know if the staff was short that day or what but we had very poorly trained servers or something. The lack of checking on patrons was inexcusable. What's even worse, ordering food from there is like pulling teeth. You can't find your server, they rarely show themselves, they don't pay attention to their sections, and their ability to pull the bare minimum of even getting me a water was a shocker to me. It's water and you couldn't even get that going! Many of the people I was with ordered food and it took nearly 30-40 minutes just to get their food. Granted, it's a bar but when you serve food, get the food out to your customers! The chicken sandwich I got was pretty basic. Grilled chicken (dry as can be), romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and fries with condiment packets. The kitchen definitely slapped this together in such lazy fashion. Another thing to note is that it's a lakeside venue so one would think to be able to bring your own cooler. NOPE. No outside booze allowed. On the boat which you can rent from an outside vendor, they'll allow you, but one you set foot into the place, all outside alki must remain outside. Not even a can of Truly which is the most benign of all drinks. Sure it's their policy but it's pretty stringent for an open air bar. The overall experience of this place was subpar at best and definitely recommend other options around Lake Conroe. read more

We flagged down another sever , and asked if she could help us. No help.
