This place has the perfect location and size to accommodate a large group. The chips have this special seasoning on them which is dangerous because you can eat a whole basket before you even realize it. I usually order the fajitas for one which come out sizzling and is enough food to serve two. Not my fave Mexican restaurant in town (there are a ton) but I always enjoy eating here and am never disappointed. read more

I had eaten here before and didn't care for it so I went years w/o going back. Well a few weeks ago I had a craving for some Mexican food and they were the closest spot open. I placed a carryout order for the stuffed avocados(shrimp) and half order of chicken nachos. I was pleased with everything. I'm not a big fan of their chips but all in all it was good. The food is always delicious. There are many party rooms to reserve. You can eat outside or inside. The upstairs is beautiful. They always have plenty of tables and booths. Try the enchiladas. We come there with our kids every Wednesday, and it's always great! This past Wednesday was not the best. Our server seemed to be more concerned with "remembering our order", as opposed to writing it down. We were then without at least one thing at every point of our experience and these were all things we told her while placing our order. As a service industry vet, writing it down is always more appeasing. We shouldn't have to order our food, correct the order during the order process, and go without things we specified when we placed our order. Food is great as always, but just a simple rule in place of writing your orders down table side would be helpful. read more

I am so hit or miss on Papacita's. I have loved one or two things, and actually disliked one or two things. My most recent experience was at lunch and it was an A+. The prices at lunch are hard to beat! I ordered a mini chicken fajita salad and was kinda nervous it would truly be tiny. Quite the opposite, it was huge!! And less than $7 I believe. Tons of fajita chicken sliced nice and thin. Good flavor and tender enough to cut with a fork. A huge scoop of yummy guac. Another huge scoop of sour cream. Two tons of cheese. There were some tomatoes hidden somewhere in there! Kinda weird but also both sliced black olives and whole green olives? Didn't touch those. Couldn't even finish this plate. Served with a choice of salad dressing which I honestly barely used. My dining companion got an enchilada and it seemed like her plate wasn't even half the size. My kids love eating here because there is so much to look at and someone is always celebrating a birthday. They love to sing and clap. Always plenty of high chairs. It is loud so you don't have to feel self conscious about your little ones. They can always munch on the complimentary tortillas! read more

Excellent food and service! This place is huge! We were seated quickly and our order arrived much quicker than anticipated. Everything was tasty...the chips were thin and crispy, salsa had just the right amount of heat and had a nice consistency. Our orders include a flouta, chicken enchilada, puffy taco, cheese enchilada, beef fajitas, a taco, rice, refried beans and queso and fresh made tortillas. Everything tasted wonderful and we left with full bellies. We'll definitely stop by again if we are in the area. read more

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE A LARGE GROUP. This is our second time coming here with a large group and both times were not great but this most recent time takes the cake. We have 30 people in our group and we had one waitress. After waiting for over 30 minutes we finally got our drinks and attempted to order our food. After waiting for so long to get the drink, order our food and then wait on food I just asked for our check. After sitting here and waiting for over 30 minutes I still do not have a check. I am totally baffled as to why I see at least 6 waitresses standing around but the only assign 1 waitress to such a large group. Good grief. read more

This is typically one of our favorite places to go eat, when my husband is in town. The service was just okay. Our waitress wasn't very attentive, and she didn't come around very often. The food is normally our favorite part, but not today. The tortillas tasted straight from a bag, and the food.....when we finally got it.....was extremely dry. Sadly disappointed by the food at Papacita's. I loved coming here as a child and was excited to revisit as an adult for a friends birthday. The venue was just as beautiful as i remember but the food was gross especially the queso & I've gotta say I've never had bad queso. Service was good at first. Waited forever for a Togo box and for him to get $. The food was a disappointment. Beef fajitas looked gray..no sear and onions weren't caramelized. DO NOT TRY CRAWFISH ENCHILADAS!! The crawfish is rubbery, smelly, small, and tasted awful! They need to get a lesson from cotton patch on where to get crawfish. Yes, I know they aren't a seafood place, but it was a new menu item, so I gave it a shot. Seriously, the whole visit surprised me... Hot sauce was soooo bland and the chips were stale. With the new competition across the street you'd think they'd step up their game. read more

I lived in east Texas for two years and never found great Tex-Mex like what I'm use to back in Houston. Simply put this place is bad and the owners our getting over on the good people of Longview. If you are accustomed to REAL Tex-Mex do not go here! As a rule I avoid places that claim to be Tex-Mex but yet server things like burgers. This is one of those places. The enchiladas were runny and it seems they use the wrong cheese. The tortilla chips were thick and had some kind of chili powder on them. I cannot stress enough, if you are use to good Tex-Mex, this is not the place to go. read more

It is really hard to come up with enough nice things to say about this place. We had a wedding rehersal dinner there for about 50 people and from reservation to after meal clean up everything was wonderful. My wife needed to get into the room early to decorate. Not only did they let her in 30 minutes before they opened, they also provided a nice young man to help carry decorations. The meal went off without a hitch. There were varying numbers of servers depending on what was going on so there seemed to always be just the right amount of help. The food was great. Salsa and chips and then a buffet just for our room. After the meal the clean up was fast and smooth and, again, one of the staff helped carry out all the decorations and pack them in the car. I've been eating here ever since I can remember. Before they were ever located on Loop 281 in Longview. I'm a huge fan of the hot sauce, and used to get care packages in college with a couple of jars of the amazing stuff :) The fresh chips and hot tortillas are also a must. My favorite dishes to have are the spinach enchiladas, regular cheese enchiladas and the seven layer dip. You can't go wrong with any of those, and their nachos are pretty incredible. I'm not a fan of their margaritas..i've never really had one I liked. Either the mix is too sour, too sweet or you can barely taste the alcohol. read more

It's a nice and very typical Tex-Mex place. If you ever read my reviews it is obvious I'm losing weight and look for healthy options. It's working, by the way. Dalton, my server worked with me. I waved off the chips & tortillas & put in my order exactly right-mixed shrimp & chicken fajitas with no rice or tortillas. He brought double charro beans but I didn't eat the 2nd cup. Dalton is young but is a great server. Ask for him-he's a college man & works hard for his customers The fajitas were really good-not overly greasy & good peppers & onions well Caramelized. Good guacamole & pico and the beans were good. All this & under 500 calories best as I can figure on Fitness Pal-a great app by the way. It's hard to fully judge TX-MX for under 1000 calories. I was here a few summers ago visiting a friend and she took me here (7/27/04 I think was the exact date). This is a GREAT place for "Tex-Mex." To this day, the best beef I ever ate was here at Papacita's. The portions are huge. I had a steak platter with rice and beans (and veggies?) and chips and salsa, and it was like $7. It might be more now. The air conditioning was set at like 60 degrees so it was frigid inside compared to the humidity of the Texas summer outside. The restaurant had two levels and was much bigger than it looked from the parking lot, with festive dancy music and lots of Texans milling about. I'm so glad I ate here. PLEASE HEED THIS WARNING- This place has a very nice decor and atmosphere, looks like they are always busy. They have a tortilla factory with fresh chips and tortillas. The service was decent until we told the waitress about the food. We ordered the chicken fajitas, chicken enchiladas, and the 'veracruz'. Everything was bland except the chicken fajitas. The taste reminded me of someone using a charcoal grill for the first time using a whole bottle of lighter fluid. After mentioning this to the waitress, she told her manager. The manager never came over but told her to tell us that they don't use any chemicals. All I wanted was for someone there to simply acknowledge our dislike. She just walked away and didn't apologize or anything. Will not return. read more

I was very excited to try this place based on a recommendation it received. Unfortunately it was not as great as I had hoped. The chips had way too much salt and some other seasoning on them and my "Mama's Rellenos" (Fresh Poblano Pepper Stuffed with Mesquite Broiled Chicken Breast, Mushrooms, Sautéed Onions and Monterey Jack Cheese, Breaded, Deep Fried and served with Queso or Smooth Sour Cream Sauce) had way too much breading and it was very greasy. The worst of our experience was the wait service. It took a very long time to receive our water and drinks. And once our server was gone we rarely saw him again. I really can not believe that people really think this is Mexican or even TexMex for that matter. The fact that they serve Mexican Pizza, chili cheese fries, and deep fried mushrooms, zucchini, stuffed jalapenos and cheese sticks is a sign that East Texas doesn't know good Mexican or TexMex food. Putting chili powder on chips doesn't make the experience any better. We ordered the the Cancun, which is beef fajitas and my daughter had a beef enchilada. These were the weakest excuse for fajitas we had ever seen and the serving was very small. There was no taste and may daughter could only eat half of the enchilada. What is with the mesquite fire? Not Mexican. They also have a "American Favorites" menu that serves up burgers, chicken fried steak, and the like. Really good TexMex fair! The atmosphere doesn't say Mexico. The staff was in no hurry to get your food out or ask how your doing. This place is just a big disappointment. If you are from Houston do not even bother coming in this place. This isn't Lupe's, Los Cucos, or anything close to places on Navigation. I will say this about Papacita's; they are really getting over on the folks here in East Texas who do not know what good Mexican or TexMex is. Do not waste your time here. read more

Tried this place while I was visiting last weekend and it was pretty good. Tons of seating and the waiting area was huge! No waiting around in a tiny space at the front desk, it's clear by the waiting area that these guys stay busy consistently. Their chips are literally the best I've had. These are not just your normal plain Jain tortilla chips, these chips are seasoned, not spicy, just seasoned and oh so good! I will admit I did not taste the salsa, cause I'm more of a green sauce fan, but everyone at our table seemed to like. The queso was ok, nothing to write home about, but have I mentioned how tasty those chips are?! I had a plate with beef@ cheese enchiladas and taco plus rice and beans...all very tasty! I didn't get a chance to try any alcoholic drinks, but a few people at our table did and they seemed to enjoy their drinks. Overall, i will definitely come back, I give this one 2 read more
