La Finca is our family's favorite Tex-Mex. There used to be an Allen location and we frequently went as a family. My kids grew up with it as their favorite. The Allen location closed, and we have missed it. We have driven two and a half hours to Gilmer in order to relive our La Finca joy. the salsas are excellent. Ask for the green and brown, because they only bring red otherwise. All three are great. The veggie fajita and veggie enchiladas are top notch. Don't order anything with shredded chicken because it's dry. Beef tacos and steak fajitas are good. Queso excellent. Our server was shy which hindered her from being an excellent server, but we didn't complain. I'm looking forward to our next road trip! Viva La Finca! read more

Good food. Good value on specials. I was here for a quick dinner and was pleasantly surprised. I do think this restaurant and many others charge ridiculous prices for a fountain drink. I could buy a 12 pack of drinks for about $6-7 dollars at most places, yet it's $3 or $3.50 here for a fountain drink that might cost fifteen cents for them to make. $2 per drink would allow them more than enough profit. It's why many people are switching to water. Go back to charging $2 and you'll sell more and make more in the long run. My family would order drinks all the time for $2 each, but will continue to ask for water with lemon as long as these greedy places charge $3 and up for a Coke. 4 family members x 4 drinks at $2 each = $8 gross profit. 4 family members x 4 glasses of water = $0 dollars gross profit and pissed off customers who would have enjoyed the meal more and would dine out more often. read more

Great Mexican food and atmosphere. They serve the best charro beans I've ever had. The salmon is marvelous, comes with steamed veggies, guacamole, and a special sauce. We always enjoy the food at La Finca, but we have noticed a steep increase in price in recent years, along with a stingy attitude about the condiments like salsa. Their salsa bowls are very small, and we eat a lot of salsa with our meal, but when we asked for extra bowls so the waitress wouldn't have to visit our table as often, we were informed that if they refill more than two bowls, they get into trouble with their management. Of course this is not the fault of the wait staff, but it definitely leaves a bad taste in your mouth, no pun intended. We ordered fajitas for two, which was priced like two orders of fajitas for one, without the usual five dollar price break. Their charro beans are unbelievably expensive if you want to order a quart to go. It is close to $20, which seems unreasonable for beans. I'm feeling more and more disappointed with this restaurant, which makes me choose to go there less often. read more

Service was horrible the lady at the bar (Dusty ) area never asked if she could help or anything she was very rude why . I know it's not the responsibility to take care of to--go orders . I sat down a couple came in after me the bartender immediately asked what they needed. They and went back into the area. I'm sure Mr. Cavazos wouldn't be pleased with this type of service. Place was crowded, the host was getting everyone seated as quickly as he could. Tables were still being cleaned as you were approaching to sit. We were seated in the bar area. A little tight but luckily, we were seated in a booth and not in a table that were almost back-to-back. chips and salsa arrived, and each had their own salsa bowl. We went through three small baskets before our food arrived. Sorry to say I was not impressed so much for the food. Granddaughter ordered fajitas that usually come out sizzling on the cast iron plate, but not these. She stated that they were OK. Not impressed. I had the taco salad, which was large and filling. There was enough meat that lasted to the last bite. But there was something missing and I could not place my finger on it. It was somewhat dry. I don't know if it needed some sour cream or salsa on top. Hubby had the shrimp tacos and again not that impressed. The food was luke warm. We were four but a table that was seated after us received their food before us. Was it because they were only two? I don't know but if the food had been hot I probably would not even say anything. But since the food was luke warm. I believe our food sat for a little longer that it should have. I know it was a busy night, so I will give them that, and maybe another chance if ever I am that way again. read more

For small town Tex Mex, when there's not a lot of selection, this place was pretty solid. The Diet Coke on tap tasted... not right, so it was a relief when they had Diet DP. And that hit the spot. Another Gilmer staple but lately has gone downhill. I'm not sure if Northerners moved in and couldn't handle hot sauce, but either way it seems that Lafinca has caved and the hot sauce is no longer hot or even mild. It is very bland at this point it's pretty sad because the food is unique and overall good but hot sauce can make or break a Tex-Mex restaurant, please go back to your original recipe. read more

We stopped in on our way through town today. We weren't sure what we would find, but it was open on Sunday (which was rare) and they didn't have a long wait. As a Houstonian, I've had a lot of Tex Mex. This place was delicious. My husband got the La Finca Platter and was stuffed when we left. I got the taco salad and it was great! The chicken was freshly grilled and the veggies were fresh. Our family of four paid $50 total for our food - which is pretty standard, so price wise I would say it's great. Food is pretty solid and the prices are really affordable. The service was good as well but the staff is a lot of young kids so their attention to detail is lacking. My family and I have come here a couple times and enjoyed the food and drinks each time. Most all of the staff are nice.

The food is excellent! Some of the waitresses are very good, some not as much. I tip them according to the service. Restroom is usually clean. They do have a few handicapped parking spaces, but not enough. I can only eat mild salsa because I am allergic to jalapeños. They do not have mild salsa, which is their one drawback. So I have to bring my own salsa that is mild. read more

We have been customers of this restaurant since it began about 35 years ago. We had to move away about 20 years ago and have only gotten to eat here occasionally. We were pleasantly surprised that the recipes that count, specifically the green sauce, are still as delicious as they were in the beginning. Our food was hot and well prepared. Our waiter was adequate. Our order took longer to arrive than other restaurants, but it was obviously fresh out of the oven, so we didn't complain Overall we recommend La Finca as a good place to dine. read more

We went out with a group of friends to La Finca on a weekday night. It was my first time and was immediately surprised how busy it was. Luckily we made a reservation and were seated immediately. It is a pretty large restaurant with a capacity well over 150 ppl and given the volume, we were lucky that reservations were made for our party of 10. After being seated, we were greeted by our friendly, lovely, astute server Deborah. She did a wonderful job and she ensured that our experience was a positive one. She took our drink orders on her wireless device and asked us if we would be on separate checks, which we confirmed. It is nice to get that specification out of the way so the billing procedure runs smoothly at the conclusion of the meal. It was towards the end of Happy Hour, so we took advantage of the savings and ordered our margaritas and other libations. My happy hour margarita was actually better than the subsequent 'top shelf' margarita. I was a little disappointed in the 'top shelf' version. It seemed weak on tequila and too heavy on sour mix. We then ordered our dinner and everything arrived in a very timely manner. Deborah did a great job, btw, of making sure there was plenty of chips and salsa, procuring salsas for each one of us! She was on it! Our meals arrived and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I enjoyed mine, however it did seem a little on the 'americanized' side of mexican food. Don't misunderstand, everything tasted great, seasoned well, just didnt seem that authentic. The exception was the shrimp stuffed avocado which was the star of my meal. I did ask for a spicier version of salsa and Deborah promptly suggested some other options the kitchen had prepared. The 'special salsas' had much more personality and character and would recommend them, although they indeed were spicier, so sensitive palates beware. We celebrated a friend's birthday and the staff was very kind to sing their birthday song much to her chagrin. There was a baby crying right behind us very loudly, which was more humorous than a deterrent. And what a mess the baby made. The floor looked like a modern art mosaic of chips, cheese, and salsa. Lol. Poor bussers have to clean up all of that. Oh well, not our problem, but definitely noticed it. All in all, a positive experience and I would return but maybe sit it the bar area. Hopefully Deborah would be able to wait on us again because her service was the highlight of our meal. read more

Wonderful Tex-Mex menu. Refried beans are the bomb. They start out with the best nacho chips in the world... with seasoning that is not too salty nor spicy... can get a bag and bring it home. Their salsa is not too spicy either, but just the right blend of salty sweet goodness that is perfect with their chips! Chile Rellano was the best I've ever eaten. I have grown up eating at La Finca. Basically raised at this place. I even went through a phase where I trust {almost} everything on the menu. This place is just great! Family owned and their newest upgrade with the new restaurant is fantastic! This is a Gilmer, Texas staple and you should definitely give this place a good try! Food: Chips and salsa are the greatest here. Use the squirt butter in your salsa, trust me. All other food options are great, it just depends what kind of mood you're in.
