Excellent food, outstanding service and wonderful atmosphere. Just go. All the choices are wonderful. On a Sunday evening, We arrived, a party of 5, were immediately seated. Drink orders taken. A wide choice, something for everyone's taste! We ordered, baked fish, lasagna, chicken marsala and veal marsala. Salads and soup first. Fresh crisp salad. Soups were "the perfect temperature "! Not hot and not cold. Everyone was happy. Entrees, except for yums and delicious sauce, everyone was quiet. A definite sign everyone was enjoying there meal!! Leftovers were packed up and we left! Big Portions, Great food...I think this might be the number 1 place for office parties in the area. I always hear people say..."We are having our Christmas party at Papagallos." It's always busy when I go - maybe people have Christmas parties through out the year, because they are so busy. Extremely disappointed in the shabby service we received on Mothers Day Sunday. We placed order for 4 meals (not cheap). Arrived to pick meals up and were told to stay in the car & servers would bring our order out to us. After sitting in car waiting for 30 mins, we go inside restaurant. We see a table loaded with bags of food Don't know how long our food had been sitting there, meanwhile 2 workers were chatting to each other in bar area, ignoring the bags of food growing cold. 3 rd worker behind the counter seemed to at least be trying. Finally we get our order and drive home for family dinner. Only to discover Papagallos finest had actually only packed 3 of the 4 meals. I call restaurant to let them know & they tell me to come back down & get 4th meal ",.. but it's going to be a wait because we're busy.... " No apologies no taking responsibility nothing. So our family dinner was a bust!! The 4th person in our party ate alone nearly 2 hours after everyone else. Papagallos at the very least you owe us an apology. DO NOT EAT HERE. My wife, myself and our grandson who's a freshman at Keene College had dinner here last night. We all agreed this is one fine restaurant. We walked in and were immediately seated by I believe one of the owners with a warm welcome. Our waiter Josh was very professional and accommodating. We started with chicken wings for appetizer and they were very tasty with a touch of heat. For dinner we had Eggplant Parmigiana, Lasagna and Veal Parmigiana,all with a side of linguini. I forgot to add also a delicious salad, with warm bread and a dish of olive oil with seasoning for dipping. The amount of food is draw dropping and absolutely delicious!!! I would definitely recommend this establishment for dining and will definitely return next time we visit our grandson from NJ. read more

We were driving through the area and the family decided that they wanted Italian food, so we stopped in. I really wasn't expecting the restaurant to be as lovely as it is, so my first introduction was very positive. We all ordered different dishes - I ordered the haddock and it was the absolute BEST I have ever had. The rest of the family loved their dishes too. My only regret is that we don't live close enough to Papagallos to make this a weekly occasion. But next time I'm in the area, we will definitely have a meal or two (or ten) there. read more

We just moved to the area and my husband and I decided to try out this place. I liked to support local restaurants over the chains, but after our experience at Papagallo's I wish we had just gone to the Olive Garden instead. Overall the food was very mediocre. Before ordering, I asked our waiter, who was incredibly new and green (I felt bad for him that he was starting so new on a Saturday night), what was better, the pizza or the pasta? He said the pasta and even stated the same owners own Athens Pizza down the road and that the pizza there was better. So both of us ordered pasta and neither of our dishes were anything better than what an amateur cook could make on a Monday night at home. The sauces lacked taste and the portions were small. I had a cheesy sauce on tortellini and the sauce was almost watery rather then creamy. Moreover, it was expensive! I don't mind paying nearly $20 for a pasta dish when it's good, but this didn't cut it. Also, I should mention that my dish was meat-less and still that expensive. Our bill was over $60, although we did both order wine. The drinks were ok, but nothing special. The poor waiter didn't know anything about the drinks and said he'd have to ask a co-worker. Also, the service was slow - surprising since I think all they did was microwave a jar of sauce. I seriously thought about writing a letter and asking for some of our money back, but I think it's too late now (we were there about a month ago now). In any case, we won't be returning. What surprises me is all the good comments and the place was pretty full that night - maybe it's because they're one of the only places that does functions in the area?? If you're going to spend $60 on dinner, I suggest Michelle's on Main St. in Keene instead...or at the very least Olive Garden (and then you can have TWO glasses of wine!). read more

09/25/2010 I have been going to this place since it opened. Good portions with a fair price. However this past Saturday night I went in at 6:40 PM as a single diner. I know that places do not like us but we are still paying customers. Saturday night and packed so they told me the wait would be no more than 15 to 20 minutes. I sat for 45 minutes and saw a three some get a booth that had been empty the whole time, probably reserved but they made a fuss after waiting 15 min and were given that booth. One of the owners finally noticed how long I was sitting there and I was ready to tell him off. I was also wearing my VIETNAM VETERAN CAP AND SHIRT. Angelo got me a small booth immediately and proceeded to make excuses for the three women behind the counter. It was nothing short of b/s, no apology offered. The waitress was good and explained the kitchen was backed up so the meal was delayed. Chicken Parm. with a charred crust came and the pasta was so limp I could not get it to stay on the fork. In my business, I would have offered a drink or dessert or something on the house to a Veteran that was shunned by my staff. Not even an apology, nor did Angelo take the time to ask if my meal was OK. I am sure they had a banner night between dinners and the bar. All I can say is that the owners are GREEDY AND UNCARING. VETERANS, TAKE NOTICE, THIS IS NOT THE ONLY PLACE IN TOWN. FROM NOW ON i WILL BE DINING ELSEWHERE. read more

I went here with friends after the Pumpkin Fest this past year. Most of us ordered pizzas which were really delicious. The place was crowded so we hung out in the bar area for a while waiting to be seated. That seemed kind of disorganized bc I thought we would miss our name being called but it ended up being fine. Papagallos is my favorite Italian restaurant. The food is always delicious, the service is good (usually) and the atmosphere is pleasant. The restaurant is large, so even when it is busy on the weekends there usually there isn't much of a wait. I've eaten here twice. The first time was with family. The service was good, the price was right, and the food was adequate. I thought my meal (ziti with meatballs) was bland, but the others enjoyed theirs. On my second visit, I was alone and stopped in on the way home. The waiter said there was a veal shank special, so I ordered it. He probably told me the price, but it probably whizzed right by me. It tasted like a typical diner pot roast -- not that great, but not bad. I was shocked when I received the bill. That special was priced at $25.95. With a soft drink and tax, the bill was over 30 bucks. Service was slow, but that wasn't the waiter's fault. He can't serve the food any faster than the kitchen gets it out, but I thought 30 minutes was too long for a special when only a few booths were occupied. If I'm with someone else who is determined to eat here, I will return. But, if I can convince the others in my party to eat elsewhere, then elsewhere is where we will eat. read more

Papagallos is straight homestyle italian food. The portions are embarrassingly gigantic here. I always have enough for 3 meals. My favorite meal here is the eggplant parmersan. Probably the most caloric/unhealthy pasta dish one can get, but it is deeeelicious the way they do it here. read more

Great atmosphere, good value, average food. We ordered rhode island calamari (with hot pepper and oil) which was decent for apps. Crunchy, golden, and breaded lightly. The Seafood Diavolo came with jumbo shrimp, scallops, and mussels in a spicy tomato sauce. The meal was very large, and impressive.. The dish itself was average at best tasting, but good. The bar area is really nice as well. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. As far as returning for another try, it will probably be a while. I wasn't thrilled with the menu and there are so many other places to try. Nothing here is enough to bring me back in a hurry, except maybe the bar. read more

A great place to come with a big group. We had a family party of 30 or 40 people and the folks at Papagallos were very accomodating and friendly. Everyone really seemed to enjoy their food and the wide selection of menu items that were available-- and the portions were huge! My husband left full and with half a pizza to take with him. Don't waste your time!!! Worst meal I've ever had. Driven by restaurant many times and thought we'd try. Our server was clueless. She dropped off wilted salad and immediately asked how is everything. She then realized we haven't even tasted it. I had chicken Marsala, it was disgusting. Noodles were over cooked and the chicken (I think chicken) tasted like rubber. My wife had a pizza and sauce was sickly sweet. How do you screw up pizza. I should have walked out but I'd never do that. So I just ate, paid and left. Never go back again!!!!! read more

A huge disappointment. The ingredients and cooking are of inferior quality. The prices are high, considering how ordinary the ingredients are, and we felt ripped off for the first time in a long time. Huge servings don't hide the lack of pride or skill in preparation. I doubt we'll ever return. This place is as bad as we remembered it to be, so it serves us right getting stung this time for giving it another chance by ordering different dishes. The first time we ate there, although it was still tasty, a main ingredient was left out of the Chicken Marsala, with no excuses made, liked they'd run out of mushrooms -- they cook forgot and the waiter didn't even notice. The wood-fired pizza was nothing special, and the Tortellini Alfredo was a gloopy mess. Last week, the Greek salad was pallid, tasty only from the Greek dressing, with only iceberg lettuce served, so the salad was essentially white, between the lettuce and the cheese, with hardly any feta or olives or veggies on top. White bread rolls are served with pale olive oil, certainly not a cold press or extra virgin. The chicken parmesan sandwich was almost inedible -- dried out, rubbery chicken on a scorched roll, with barely any sauce. The fries are pale, tasteless and limp. The meat in the gyros is beef patties, not lamb. I was told it was tasty, but certainly not authentic. The service was good and even somewhat professional. However, the décor is kind of cheesy, dated and unappealing, although at least it was clean. With so many other good and attractive Mediterranian restaurants in town, forget about dining at this one. read more

My fiancee took me there for the 1st time after we bought his truck on Sunday. I loved it so much we went back on Tuesday! Cozy place, flavorful food, great wait staff! I have not tried the pizza, but what we have had that was fabulous is: Lasagna, Chicken Francese, Broiled Haddock, Calamari, Fish Chowder, Ceasar salad. Wine was pretty good too....Kendall Jackson! I just came from here great atmosphere, really sweet staff, great for all ages. My only exception is the food itself, the chicken olympia was very tasty as was the meatballs but my brothers order of fettuccine alfredo was far from tasty, or any taste of all.
