First time here. Service was great and gave awesome recommendations. I loved that you get a side salad with your entree. Dressing was homemade and yummy. I had shrimp scampi, full of flavor. Big shrimp and added broccoli made the dish perfect. My husband had chicken Parmesan. Huge piece of chicken with nice amount of pasta. We both took some home. I worked here for about a month. The food is not terrible. The food is not great. Surprisingly I agree how do you miss a pizza? The sauce is a little sweet I guess for my taste versus savory. Sorry to put it this way but it was a late one level above Applebee's where they're trying to make it a fine dining restaurant. It's a good place for an Applebee's or Chili's style meal both a little different Selections and cuisine. If you go ask for Melissa. The owners have a bad reputation for being overbearing. Good menu - food tasted great, service was good, atmosphere was nice - portions were very big - enough for two even! The only negative comment at all was the music wasn't that great! We went between lunch and dinner time so it was probably more noticeable than if it's super busy - but it was like being at a weird Kenny G concert. My wife and I love this restaurant. The brick oven pizza is amazing and 1/2 price in the lounge on Tuesday and Saturday. We have tried almost the entire menu and love it all. The staff are friendly and attentive and the owners frequently come out to interact with the customers. The enormous fireplace is warm and inviting and the decor is unique and classy. This was my first time coming to brunch here. The food, drinks and music were phenomenal; but the service was definitely not up to par. This is the first place we ate when we arrived in Keene - poor choice The food is not great at all - I literally could have cooked the food in my kitchen, and it would have came out better. We had a pasta dish and a seafood dish - they were both subpar. The pasta was way too al dente. I usually like it al dente, but just not cooked thoroughly. The people seemed nice, and the atmosphere seemed OK, but the food and the PRICE on the menu threw me for a loop. If I had known the quality ahead of time, we wouldn't have eaten there. read more

We absolutely love this place for a date night. The food is beyond excellent and authentic and the wait staff is so friendly. I often recommend this place any time I hear someone mention the Olive Garden. Why bother when a better restaurant is moments away. We drive almost an hour to eat here. Brought my mom here who drove an hour just for their chicken francaise, the food is always good, but the service on the other hand was awful. We literally waited 1+ hours for our APPETIZERS, and after she brought our dinners she never came back til we had been done for 20 mins, with completely empty drinks. Our experience was very poor. We ordered prime rib dinners with one ordered going back 3 times. Finally received order after everyone was done. Returning to Keene last night me and a group of friends went here. This place was known as having some of the best food in Keene when I lived there years ago. I ordered the pizza and it was one of the worst pizzas I have ever ordered. The waitress was very good, and said she would send the owner, who was working up front. He never came over, even though the place was pretty empty. I then got a plain pasta with sauce and I swear it egg noodles. Papagallos has really gone downhill and we plan on never returning. Its sad, it was great. Now it uses very cheap ingredients and overcharges you for them. read more

My husband and I have been on-and-off patrons of Papagallo's for 10+ years. Over the years have been ups and downs....basically, the place is inconsistent (not sure if this is a management issue?) First off, the decor is terrible and confusing. Then you look at a menu that obviously had very little thought put into it. Everything has marinara that tastes burnt and old. The servers look very unorganized and not very knowledgable. It feels like everything is just scooped on a plated and thrown in the oven. The only thing that didn't make me feel like I was gonna be sick was the pizza which was made right in front of you with a nice brick oven. Food is great, service is lacking. The portion sizes are HUGE, everyone had leftovers to take home, and it was delicious. But the food didn't all come at once, and one of the kids was waiting 10 minutes while others were eating (at least bring the kids' food first!). Two weeks ago, we had our son's wedding rehearsal dinner at Papagallos' Restaurant. Having eaten there before, I knew the food would be an assortment of truly, delicious Italian dishes. What added to the great food was the attentive and accomodating service. We were made to feel like family, and any special, personal touches that we requested for our son and daughter-in-law were honored and made even more special by all of the staff and the owner. We were not kept within a strict menu selection, guest allegeries and special needs were taken seriously and addressed with care and importance, and everyone was treated like a special guest - even though the main restaurant was full. Our room was tastefully decorated, our guests felt special and honored, and we could not have been more pleased. I was going to visit family in Keene. My grandmother emailed me just to tell me how I must try this place because they have the best seafood pizza in the world. As a point of reference, there are few things my grandmother gets excited about. Anyway, I set off to try the world's best pizza. Before I do that, I need to wait with my family for 15 minutes before the waiter takes our order. He did not even bring our drinks. We order the pizza, and I order the antipasto salad. So another 20-30 minutes goes by (if you are keeping count, 45 minutes for food), we still have no food and our drinks are empty. We ask for refills, waiter brings one glass at a time to tables around us, so apparently he is nervous about carrying multiple glasses on a tray. Anyway, the food comes shortly before we were preparing to eat our shoes. The antipasto salad was an interesting concept, though very little lettuce and way to full of salty meat, cheese, and olives. This place really loves salt. This would be a good salad if it had 1) more lettuce 2) less Feta. Anyway, the seafood pizza arrives. I eagerly take a slice, ready to try the "best pizza in the world." I ate two bites and I was over it. It was WAY too salty. Now mind you, my family has eaten this pizza many, many times at this restaurant and they know how it is supposed to taste. So I state it is too salty. Note there are eight slices in this pizza for $16,and we ate 3.5 slices. We summon our waiter and the conversation goes something like this. Me: Hi, this pizza is very salty. Waiter: Oh, well I can go check with the kitchen and see what is going on Me: ok, great Waiter returns Waiter: I talked to the cook and they said they were rushing through it and may have added too much salt. Me: Ok, well is there going to be some type of adjustment to the bill since the cook has essentially admitted to oversalting the food? Waiter: Um let me go check Me: ok Waiter returns again Waiter: Well, actually I talked to the head chef and he said they do not add any salt to the pizza. *If you are keeping track, person who made it said they oversalted it, and once we asked for a price adjustment, were told by a different person no salt is used* Me: Ok, well we are not going to eat the rest of this pizza, so will you please ask the manager to come over Waiter: Sure Manager: I hear the pizza is too salty? Family member: Yes. We eat this pizza all the time and it is normally a delicate balance between white wine and garlic, but I am still trying to get the salt taste out of my mouth. Manager: I am sorry, maybe it was the clams that are too salty? I can make you another pizza. *After waiting 45 minutes, why do we want another pizza? Family member: It could be the clams. But we are not interested in taking this home or having another pizza. We are not asking for anything off the total bill, but the pizza should be adjusted. Manager: Ok, well I will make an adjustment *five minutes later* Manager: I took five dollars off your bill. Us: Thanks Quite frankly, we were ready to leave at this point as we waited forever for everything. We just said thank you and left. We are not selfish people, we did eat some of the salty pizza. But since we left half the pizza, we should have received $8.00 off. Instead, we were given a petty five dollars off. To me this says, sorry you did not like your food but we are not going to do anything about it. I would only eat here again if I was forced to. Even if the kitchen admits they botched your order, the story will change once you ask for a price adjustment, and management will do very little to ensure your repeat business. They may be busy for now, but over time poor quality food and response will drive away your customers. read more

This establishment has horrible service and mediocre food. KHS prom was last night and my sister and her friends (as well as many other KHS students) had reservations. Their reservation was at 6pm and they were on time and by 7:30pm they had still not gotten their meals. An HOUR AND A HALF and still no food. If students were not at prom by 8pm they could not attend, just to put that out there. The staff were unapologetic and my sister paid for her meal before she even got her food. The food, when it finally came out, had to be boxed up (by the students, the staff didn't even box it up for them) and all the kids had to eat their subpar meals in their limo, rushing to make it to prom. The staff did not discount or compensate them, even though it took almost TWO HOURS for their dinner. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I would have been mortified if I was their server and would have compensated their whole meal. Yes, it was prom and the restaurant was probably very busy, but the managers and staff knew it was prom and should have prepared their staff accordingly. Of course these kids are young and stressed that they won't make it to prom, so they paid for this horrendous meal, but if I were them, I would have walked out. read more

Staff plainly don't know Italian culture -- asked for cappuccino for a guest who insisted upon it (a breakfast coffee, really) and stipulated no cinnamon but chocolate if available; what arrived was Hershey's syrup on top! We went here for my daughters 21st birthday with a party of 11. Never disappointed!! Food is excellent, waitress was excellent! Tons of food! 3 appetizers, 11 entrees, and several drinks for each and the bill was just a little over $200. We love this restaurant!!!! We go here every time we see our daughter in college!! I took my 14 year old daughters softball team here, along with a group of parents here for dinner on a Saturday night. I called at 4:00 that afternoon for a reservation for 22 people, but we showed up with 27. They easily adjusted our seating. The staff was fantastic. We had a team of three servers, led by Josh, who were wonderful. We mostly ordered pizzas, but there were a few chicken Parms thrown. The food came out fast and it was very good. Very first visit to Papagallos. Our waitress on Saturday 25 April 2015 was the very best! Very charming and more. Good food, good atmosphere, good prices, good staff. It wasn't noticeable how busy the restaurant was at the time as it didn't reflect on our service. If you go and find less than that ... you're way too picky or they are way too busy and their isn't anyway to please you. Top of the class! I'm going to try the buffet next time. We went there tonight on a Saturday night. The maitre'd said it was a 20 minute wait. We ended up waiting almost 45 minutes because they were bringing in all the other people who had reservations. There were a lot of people waiting but people who had just came in were being ushered in to their tables as soon as they arrived. I understand that they have to accomodate those with reservations but they should take that into account when they tell walk in guests how long the wait is. Finally when we were seated, the drinks and the soups arrived right away but we waited close to an hour for our food. It was such a long wait that I was no longer hungry when the food arrived. My daughter and husband didn't really eat much because we had lost our appetites. The server was very gracious and apologetic. I know Saturday nights are busy. But to wait almost one hour for our meal? The food was not even that good. read more
