I drove my friend to Toppenish for an appointment. It was after 1pm when we finished and we were hungry so we looked on Yelp to see if there was Thai food. But we both are vegetarian and gluten free so sometimes it's difficult to find restaurants that accommodate that. It's not much to look at from the outside but it has 5 stars on Yelp so we went in. We missed the lunch rush and were greeted by a nice gentleman who happened to be Don the owner. He guided us on what items would work best with our needs. My friend ordered the Emerald Garlic and I ordered Thai Garden and we shared Basil Fried Rice. Some places just don't know how to make gluten free or vegan taste good without the soy sauce or fish sauce, but let me tell you, this lady, Papanana, knows how to cook! The food was so flavorful and delicious! We loved every bite! The only reason we had left overs was so we had room for the Mango Sticky rice. Our only sadness is that we live 2 hours away. A diamond in the rough! We were making the drive from Portland to Washington and came across this on yelp. We decided to give it a try and it was a solid 10/10. We had the green curry, Pad kee mao, and the kids had the orange chicken. The veggies were so fresh and the food was bursting with flavor. Even the picky kids finished off the orange chicken. This restaurant serves delicious, authentic Thai food. We have eaten green curry and pad-see-ew from Thai restaurants all around the US. We ordered both last night from this cute, clean, off-the-beaten path restaurant in Toppenish! Both were a cut above all the rest! They also have a solid line-up of beers and wines to choose from. Y'all! This place is serving some of the best Thai food I've had. The place is run by a great couple, he runs the front of the house and she, from Thailand, cooks the amazing food. We had ginger garlic chicken and the Hawaiian fried rice-curry pineapple. Both were fantastic and as spicy as we requested. Was in town for an appointment and I found this gem. I was looking for something different and this was the perfect spot for that. My mother and I were treated very well by the restaurant owner, he was polite and very attentive. All my questions were answered and I had lots! The food was brought out quick, it was fresh and vibrant! The seasoning in the cashew chicken was magical! Summer rolls were delightful with a peanut sauce and a ginger sauce on the side. What a hidden gem of a restaurant! In Toppenish of all places, too. (I'm comparing it to the plethora of Thai restaurants in Seattle.) It has more Chinese-style dishes as well if that's your thing, but I was definitely there for the Thai dishes. I got the "Bermese Noodles," which was a fun blending of red curry and peanut sauce over wide rice noodles, veggies, and protein of choice. As someone who hates needing to decide between an appetizer with peanut sauce, a curry, and a rice noodle entree like Kee Mao (and don't even get me started on having to bypass the soups because of ordering other food), this was a wonderful compromise, and it was absolutely delicious! I'd recommend anyone go out of their way for this restaurant, but it was only 2 minutes off the highway. Saving the spot for a future visit - better than most places in Seattle (which also typically cost more.) My friend got the "Emerald Garlic" (which appears to be just a garlic and black pepper dish, per the description.) I had a taste, and it was good, better than most, but not strongly flavored (which was as expected for that particular dish). That's never a dish I've been impressed with at any restaurant where a friend has ordered it over the years, but it was a very fresh and perfectly cooked iteration at Papanana, if avoiding heavy sauces and/or spices is what you're going for. Otherwise, I'd recommend just ordering cooked veggies on the side and getting whatever entree you actually want instead (and taking home leftovers if it's too rich for a sitting.) My friend liked it, though, and I was very impressed with my dish. The smell and appearance of the dishes I saw being served at other tables was inspiring, too. I've tried their food via Door Dash multiple times. Their food is always delicious and well packed so that it can survive any travel mishaps that the Door Dash driver might experience in route. Love their beverages and sweet rice and mango. Soups are delicious ... really I haven't had a bad dish yet. read more
