We stopped for lunch on a visit to Yakima. The ambience is minimalistic and the service is very friendly and courteous. The portions are generous. The food was pretty good but I felt the Tomar soup lacked the rich Coconut flavor. All in all, we were satisfied with our meal and would recommend this restaurant. read more

A very nice surprise tucked into a downtown side street, Yakima Thai Cuisine did not disappoint. The ambiance and interior is fairly typical of local asian casual restaurants, but perhaps a little nicer than some. For example, the soda fountain was not prominently displayed, neither were drink refrigerators or stacks of soda. You may have your own opinions on the large LED screens at the counter (not a big deal). It was nicely appointed and very clean. Service was prompt, attentive without being intrusive, and very friendly. I felt truly welcome by everyone working there whom I saw. We had the Pad See Ew, Cashew Chicken, and Fried Rice. Everything was very good, but the Pad See Ew stood out. Portions are reasonable. Three plates easily feed three adults with leftovers -- granted, we're not big eaters, but we were hungry. Yakima Thai Cuisine is possibly THE BEST THAI food I've had anywhere. Thai is a top 3 go-to for me - had it in Hong Kong, Vancouver, London, SF, NYC, and where I've lived for many years - LA and Seattle. They should rename this place Pure Joy Thai because that's what it's like to eat this food. I can't comprehend why a restaurant of this caliber is in Yakima, and why it doesn't have a line out the door. (Sure, it's across from the jail and next to a Bail Bonds, but hey there's easy parking. But it's totally fine.) All the dishes were better than the next - veggie spring rolls, fried tofu, Thai iced tea, yellow curry, vegan pad see ew, sweet and sour stir fry w/ tofu, cashew nut w/ chicken. Our party had meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans, and picky kids who ordered seconds. The ingredients are super fresh, the presentation is outstanding, and the flavors are explosive. Oh, they can make almost any dish vegan. And the spice level is accurate. I would go for a 4 next time but 3 was delicious. The service is very good, it's a super cute place, they play jazz, and the food came out fast as hell. Oh, and when we sat down they immediately brought two carafes of water and a cup with a lid and straw for our little one. The menu used larger fonts with high contrast so it's easy for anyone to read. Big big points for that. I would guess that 20 to-go orders came through while we were there. I ordered the potstickers and the Pad Kee Mao. The potstickers were on point. I ordered them fried great flavor nice crunch, not greasy. The drunken noodles had great flavor however, the noodles were either reheated or way overcooked the green and red peppers were thrown in at the last moment and had no time to cook or soften. They were 100% raw. The other veggies were cooked perfection. I ordered the spiciness at number four. It was spot on. Top-notch, fairly authentic Thai food with lots of vegan options and actual Thai spiciness options available. I stopped in for dinner on my own and ordered the pad kee mao ($16.95) with soft tofu (fried tofu is also an option), ordered it vegan, and 5/5 spiciness, hoping that they'd deliver on the spiciness. Oh boy did they ever. The food came out in about 10 minutes and was amply portioned, coming with lots of veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, carrot, onions, tomato), plenty of soft tofu, and traditional very wide rice noodles. The spiciness was wonderfully intense -- this would be too much for most, but I was happy with it. Flavour-wise, the sweet chili soy sauce was beautifully done, coating everything adequately and being balanced. I couldn't have been happier with the food here. Highly recommended, especially if you're looking for vegan options in Yakima. EDIT: It was so good, I had to come back the next night with my friend, and we split 3 different dishes: red curry with soft tofu, sriracha noodles with fried tofu, and mixed vegetable stirfry with soft tofu. I have only ordered this via DoorDash and have not been to the restaurant! That being said, I am blown away by the quality of this place! It is rare to receive DELIVERY food that is too hot to eat on arrival, yet somehow these folks manage to do it every time. Even the Crab Rangoons were piping hot AND STILL CRISPY! The Garlic Stir Fry and Basil Rice are two of my favorites. Fresh ingredients brilliantly prepared and plated with enough flare that you can almost taste it with your eyes. Wow! I'm really impressed with the flavors we enjoyed here! I've eaten at many Thai places and this is a definite standout. The pad kee mao with shrimp was excellent and perfectly cooked shrimp were amazing. The Tom Kha soup was also perfectly coconutty and spiced to perfection. The husband and I tried this place out this week. The price for the amount of food is the only reason I took off a star. I ordered pad something (drunken noodles with beef). He ordered green curry (with a spice level of 3.) Both dishes were very good. I asked for a spice level of 0, knowing that the meal is made with peppers, and would still have some spiciness. It was great, and didn't burn my tongue up. I also tasted his food, and there was such a delicious freshness to the flavor. If I ordered it myself, I'd lower the spice level, but I still really liked it. We suggested to the staff there that adding a curry sampler to the menu would be awesome. Personally, I get intimidated when I see a lot of curries on a menu. I want to eat them, but I don't know which one I'd like best. A sampler would allow newbies to try several and narrow down favorites. The staff were friendly and helpful. read more

Well well, who would have thought little 'ol Yakima would come out swinging with this delicious authentic gem. I've been told by locals while staying here that there is no Thai food worth trying in the area and I beg to differ. I've eaten Thai food all over this country and this place is delicious. They do not mess around with the spice if you say you want a level 4 that is exactly what you are going to get. The pad thai is saucy, yummy wok fried flavor, noodles cooked perfectly the only thing that would make it better is a side of garlic chives or green onions. The Tom yum is authentic and all the flavor components line up the way they should, deliciously balanced and HUGE prawns. Im glad I decided not to listen and try this place out. Yum! read more

I think 4 stars is perfect for this little gem downtown. It's in a small storefront just off N. 1st St. Are used to have a dining option, but fairly recently transitioned to carry out only, no I'm told you can get your carry-on and then eat it inside the restaurant... I think you have to bus your own table though! This place is been around for a long time, but we've just never gone in here before. I think it's going to make it's way into the rotation after our recent foodventure here - Read: We had someone bring us food from here! Up front - The prices are very reasonable (like $10-12) and the servings are HUGE! We got Phad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Green Curry and Tom Kha for 2 adults and 3 kids...we're still eating the noodles (very willingly), 3 days later. That amount of food would probably have fed 10 people - and everything was excellent! You may be saying, "If it's so good, why the four stars, Matt?" Well, fellow yelper, the main reason he didn't max out (though I do think this is the best Thai in the area), was because there seemed to be jalapenos in many of the dishes. We're all for a little spice, but the delightful jalapeno isn't a Thai phenomenon. Use all the peppers and heat you want, but when it reminds me of a burrito, it took it down a notch in my book. The Tom Kha was the main dish that was changed a bit by them. It was still delicious, but not "Bathe in it" delicious. That said, we'll absolutely order from here again, we'll just ask for peppers. The Drunken Noodles are as good as anywhere we've been and the Phad Thai was classically awesome! Curry was middle of the road, though the kiddos liked it! Everything I have tried is great- the pad Thai is wonderful, the Rangoons are perfect, and the Rama noodles are amazing, the peanut sauce is to die for. This is top notch food but you have to understand that it is takeout only. I know that you can see lovely wooden tables and decor in the place, but there are no wait staff. The manager runs the place by himself and doesn't hire hands to assist as they were cutting into his profits too much. It also seemed like he would be paying a lot to have his restaurant downtown in that particular area so I can understand his lack of desire to expend more money for servers. Portion size is huge and prices are average for Thai food (about $12 a plate). I usually eat a ton but I was able to eat my portion over the course of 2 meals. My wife made hers into 3 meals. We were very pleased with the quality of the Thai food as well. The manager is amiable and does a great job holding down the fort. Call ahead and stop by when they're open, it's fantastic! read more

An update: the store front is back open for dining!!They have new staff, but same great food. My husband and I love this place! It's definitely the best Thai available in Yakima. Other places are seriously bland and greasy. They've recently switched over to take-out only, which is too bad, but it's still our go-to. Our favorites are pad thai and pad kee mow, and fresh rolls!! Love the fresh rolls. The portions are huge, easily two meals worth. To all the other reviews saying the owner is rude, please remember that he's also cooking while trying to take your food order or explain that they only do take out, give the guy a break! Then why do you cook so differently than who you hire? It is catsup and noodles are the cheapest food you can buy. It is price gouging, as prices went up due to Covid-19. I am sure noodle prices didn't go up 25%. You told us you were training new staff, and yet they cook so differently than you. Wouldn't you train some one to use the same recipes as yours? There is no consistency in product at all. I have eaten in Thai restaurants in many cities across America , some were good and some not so much. It is the patron that decides your fate, not your opinions of what they should think. I was in the restaurant business for 15 years so I know the business. Quality is not what it was prior to Covid. Like I said, A few wide rice noodles with little pieces of beef and four tiny pieces of broccoli doesn't constitute a $16.95 dish.
