We had both had the fish & chips which was delicious, fries were cooked perfectly they are twice fried, the yummu dill pickle soup & achatz carrot & chocolate (french silk) pies for dessert. The service was impeccable. We will be back! read more

Saturday night is Mexican night at Papa's! I just had the best chimichanga of my life. The refried beans were delicious. More people should flock to Papa's to worship at the feet of the cook. I'm a big fan of Papa's on other days of the week, too. They have really tasty pancakes, and their omelettes are just about perfect. They have great buffalo wings, and a terrific gyro. Service there is lovely. Our waitress tonight looked like Anne Hathaway, and was really attentive. Actually, all of the wait staff is pretty darn good. Quick with the refills, too. read more

No. I've lived in this area for 20 years. I've been to all 3 places to eat here, none of them are spectacular. Papa's is a typical greasy spoon diner; do not be fooled by the recently remodeled interior. Their food is hardly fresh; I'd say about 85 - 90% of the times that I've eaten there, the food either has a bad taste or is served lukewarm to cold. I understand that they are just a diner, however that does not give them license to deal in poor-quality products. Their bacon is cheap, the eggs are typically burnt when ordered any style except 'over-easy'; stay away from their breakfast special with the "cheesy potatoes" - it consists of frozen diced potatoes with that gooey super-yellow nacho cheese stuff (the kind you can get at a gas station) and bacon bits and some sliced green onion on top. It amazes me that they are able to charge higher prices for their food. The service is also inconsistent; some of the servers are nice. However, Marta (the owner's wife) is rude more often than not. I've even had her personally insult a family member after they said they weren't happy with a dish (they were polite and careful about how they phrased it, yet she still personally attacked them). If you're a coffee lover, know that the coffee is typically burning at the bottom of the pot; do not expect fresh. I feel so strongly about this place having positive reviews that I created an account just to warn potential customers. I'm not saying don't go here and try the food, I'm just warning you that it is NOT a 4 or 5-star diner. If you don't mind greasy spoons that are semi-expensive with poor quality and mostly mediocre service, by all means, check it out. For those of you wondering about the other 2 places to eat in Armada: at Kozy Korner you can get a bar burger - it's a dive bar with a dive burger. If that's your thing, you may enjoy it. Chap's in Armada is just okay. They have issues with food quality and consistency. They also badly need a floor manager. The servers are generally nice and when the food comes out, it's mostly at temp. I would caution against their soups as well; they are not always what you would expect. For soups, I can recommend the Bean and Ham Soup; it's consistently excellent. Anything else, tread carefully. Chap's has potential, but is unfortunately plagued with what seems to be managerial issues on the floor and in the kitchen. However, it's still the best out of the 3 places to eat in Armada. read more

After being 'told' by my 12yo daughter two days earlier I needed to take off work to be her special person at school and take her to the Coney Island, she informed me I was driving home alone. One of her friends mom was taking her to lunch and a movie, I headed up North Avenue to enjoy the summer like day. I want to find that out of the way place, a family owned restaurant with real home cooking that I can say "Let's go for a drive and get something to eat" and know it will be special. When I hit Armada, turned right on Main street and checked out the stores. Checking yelp*, no reviews on any of the places, I chose the one that looked like my personal grail - Papa's. The place was clean, service was timely and friendly, food was the right temperature and inexpensive. The drinks were severed in plastic and I like glass. The bread basket brought out had bakery bread in sandwich bags and the standard unit of use crackers, bread sticks and melba toast. The cream of broccoli soup was very good and the cole slaw was tasty. I ordered the Beer Batter fish and chips, I feel when a restaurant states 'Beer Batter' that it is hand dipped. Unfortunately, they do not feel the same. Also they served the tarter sauce in 0.5 ounce packages from Kraft. Overall, an explanation of my rating and a story of why my quest continues. read more
