Had the chicken salad sandwich and the chicken salad. The salad was fresh and came with dressing on the side which is always appreciated. The chicken salad was a tad salty and the bread needs to be a little heartier to hold up to the chicken salad. Service is good with the ordering at the front and the dishes brought to the table. Arturo's is about as Austin as you'd expect! A tiny joint with a menu specifically curated to where I don't recommend making any substitutions and instead having things exactly as they intended! The staff are really chill and friendly, and helpful to boot. I don't recommend going with a crowd, as seating (both downstairs and outside) are limited, but if you can pop in alone or with a friend or two you are in for a treat. Both their breakfast and lunch options allow for meat eaters and vegetarians alike to enjoy. I didn't ask, but I didn't see any notes on the menu that you are able to substitute gluten free bread, but there are still a few gf options available. Definitely a place you'll have to walk to rather than drive, but that is par for the location. Overall a cute and quiet little gem right smack under a busy city! read more

Back again 6+ years later. This time, I arrived here during brunch on a Saturday instead of a random weekday morning. As a result, I experienced the brunch menu instead of the regular menu. Also, looks like some nice paint jobs were done in the dining room since 2019 and that there's proper wait service for brunch (whereas the breakfast I got was moreso ordering at the counter and eating downstairs). Back in 2019, I came for the jalapeno cheese bread. This time, I got it, but as part of the Eggs in a Hole. It was supremely good and made me reminisce for a moment. The tacos here were incredible and really big for the money. I expected this place to be like an outdoor food truck type vibe from some of the photos, but when I got there, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a full-blown restaurant and literally underground. I recently discovered this place with a colleague when we were searching for a place to grab a quick bite for lunch during our work day. The food here did not disappoint. For lunch we shared the Thai Chicken Salad ($14), which is a must. The dressing is so flavorful and a perfect compliment to the crunchy salad. We also got the SW Chicken Quesadilla ($14), which was filled with chicken, cheese, beans, corn. My only complaint is that it was too small because after eating my half, I wanted another one! The service is counter service. You order in the front, get a number, and then they bring the food out. The service was friendly and if you pay in cash, you get a cash discount! The ambiance is very "Austin." I don't know how else to describe it except that it has an Austin vibe. We sat in the small indoor seating area where it was dimly lit, but very crowded. Absolutely loved this place!!! The staff was sweet. The ambience was comforting and lots of locals. You grab your own refills and talk to people which is communal. And well the food was delicious. I just had two tacos (bean, bacon, avocado & bean, potato, chorizo) and a latte and was more than satisfied. So much so that I was craving it the next morning. Oh and one last thing. Must try if you're a breakfast or brunch lover! Stopped by Arturo's on a Saturday around 10 AM. The set-up of this place is really interesting as you go down steps to reach the entrance. General ambiance and design of the cafe is charming and kinda quirky with all the different decor. Good amount of seating inside. Our server was quick in taking our orders, but they were pretty busy and it took some time for us to get our food. Chinati ($17, 4.5/5) - The addition of the pulled pork, cheddar jack, and pico de gallo added complexity in terms of flavor to the tried and true combination of eggs, hollandaise sauce, English muffins - The pulled pork is slow cooked and really tender Diablo ($16, 5/5) - Features grilled jalapeño cheese bread, bacon, over easy eggs, chipotle hollandaise, pico de gallo, and home fries - This would be my favorite out of the 2! The cheese bread is really tasty and I liked the chipotle hollandaise. The home fries were seasoned well too. All in all, would recommend checking out Arturo's! The price is on the higher end for some dishes, but reasonable given the large portion sizes. The dishes are pretty rich & heavy though, so just be prepared that you might be in a food coma afterwards. read more

We got there right at 10 when they opened for weekend brunch, which was a good call because when we left at 10:40 AM there was already a line out the door. Everything we ordered was very tasty, and an affordable price. Service was very good too! It's a cozy place inside and definitely is underground as the name suggests. It was pretty chilly inside so bring a jacket if it's cold outside. Home fries were yum, and chipotle hollandaise was a highlight! One of the best hidden gems for breakfast in ATX. We enjoyed everything from the coffee drinks to the food. Service was prompt and friendly. The scene was moody, dark, and eclectic. I ordered the migas scramble + jalapeños, and it was truly one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. My man ordered the bacon jack, and he was equally pleased with his meal. We ordered a mocha and a cappuccino to drink, and for takeout, we got two caramel lattes. I wanted to try a new spit that had good breakfast/brunch and this place popped up. When you first check in they give an estimate of how long your wait will be and it was about 40min and because it was cold they said we could wait at the hilton hotel across the street which was very considerate. We went to park the vehicle in the Lot E parking garage 2nd level & up is free. (don't park in a reserve spot.) Once we parked we went to the hotel to wait for our call. Once they call you, you walk over and let them know your party was called. Then they seat you downstairs. This is a quaint little cafe spot with limited seating but the staff foes a great job taking care of everyone and with the time the food comes out. This place carries a cozy dim light type of vibe. I like it. Almost homey. I had the Caribbean Toast (yum!) and hubby had the Diablo scramble. He pretty much licked his plate clean and my toast was so delicious and wasn't too sweet. It had pecans and fried bananas on it. Love it. A good amount of toast comes on the plate, so if you're not a big eater and don't like leftovers get the half order. So tiny you need to wait for a table outside in the December wind. But we waited--not too long, cuz we got there early--and when we left many other people were waiting their turn. One can see why. Just descending the stairs to the underground little rooms, dark, and with interesting paintings on the walls, makes you feel like you're going to have a special experience. And we did. The servers are all impossibly friendly and attractive, in a kind of funky Austin way. The weekend brunch menu, while it has some classic brunch dishes, has its own special twists, and is just a little bit sassy--for example, in refusing to modify their carefully crafted Benedict dishes. On this cold morning, my friend oohed and ahhed over her mocha latte, which did look really good. She ordered the Mad Scramble, which was so tasty that she nearly scarfed it down before I had time to get a picture. I ordered a BLT. It was one of the best I've ever had--nice thick crispy slices of bacon, just enough tomato, (even though it wasn't especially ripe), some kind of spicy mayo, gorgeous green lettuce, all on amazing grilled jalapeño cheese bread. The chips and pickle were a nice touch as well. Apparently they don't like splitting tabs, so that was a little bit of a hassle. But for food like this--in such a cool little dark underground place--I can put up with a little bit of hassle. Stayed across at the Hilton. Saw a line out the door Sat-Sun so I figured it was good. Ventured in Tuesday for lunch and ordered a SW quesadilla with chicken. The quesadilla was small and made with dark meat. It was gross. The meat was not flavored. The best part was the side of rice and beans. Breakfast fiesta! We loved our breakfast here. It's a wonderful hole in the wall restaurant that has a line on Sunday morning. You know it's amazing! We went after religious services and were in line by 9:45 so seated quickly. They open at 10. I loved my eggs benedict with avocados and bacon. While a line may seem intimidating, staff does a good job to keep things moving in a similar fashion to a diner. Need not to be concerned, the line does move quickly! Highly recommend the hibiscus mint iced tea, especially on a hot day. Coffees are also diner style, small mugs, but unlimited pours. Breakfast foods are the focus here - with Scrambles and Benedicts being the primary choice. A variety of hollandaise sauces are unique to the, otherwise, original breakfast dishes that you'd in a quick-serving setting. The bacon was nice and crispy too!
