One of my favorite spots in Santa Monica! Really flavorful tacos and the price is right too. Only downside is the lack of bathrooms at the establishment. Service is quite quick and friendly. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating which is a plus. The tacos are super flavorful and hold their own even without salsa (a rare feat). Their birria tacos are my favorite, crisp tortilla with tender birria meat inside. The salsas are spicy and flavorful which just makes the even better. The chicken and carne asada are also delicious.

Coming from Northern California and the Bay Area, the first thing we did after getting off the free way was stopping at Papi tacos and churros, 1st? Incredible. The food came out and looked better than pictures could ever show, the service was quick and kind , and the vibe was incredible, friendly and fast paced, this is a must stop

Crispy on the outside and bursting with soup when you bite in! Definitely get the birria. I got the OG box to try a bit of everything, and the next time i need to try their burrito too. Also tried the churros with chocolate and it tasted freshly made. For thr price I think the OG box is a great deal too, wish it was closer to home! Just thinking about it makes me crave it again.

SUCH good birria here. I never knew about this spot until my friend showed me it, and I'm so glad she did! This spot specializes in Birria that they cook for 16 hours, and you can taste that it's authentic. The decor is super cute, and the staff was very kind and helped me choose what to order. I ended up ordering the Birria burrito, and every bite was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I especially liked the melted cheese in the burrito that really enhanced the flavor of it, and the sauce you dip it in that comes with it was amazing too. I highly recommend trying their Birria, but we aware it does get messy, so make sure to get tons of napkins lol. I will definitely be back and show this spot to others!

Food was amazing and service was okay. They asked if we wanted avocado, but we weren't notified it was an extra charge which was a little annoying. The food came out super fast, but the churros took 25+ min to be ready. I'd recc ordering the churros earlier to avoid waiting! OG Plate -- 10/10. Everything was super tasty and the birria was so juicy! The shells had a nice soft crisp to them Churro -- 9/10. Docking one point because they took forever to come out, but they were crispy on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside. Probably one of the best churros I've ever tried!

How better to end your Third St Promenade promenading than with tacos and churros from Papi Tacos & Churros? To be honest, the items here were top tier among the variety of different foods we sampled throughout the promenade--but the pricing was significantly lower. Loved this spot, 10/10 would recommend.

If you're looking for a new papi to take care of your hunger, papi tacos might be the best match for you. Simple but Loaded menu, includes churros with topping/dipping options, tacos galore, burrito and mulitas. The OG burrito is a mucho size, and the barria dipping soup/sauce is really good. The tacos were solid. Overall, above average and definitely would try again. Not many tables but indoor and outdoor options. Downtown 3rd street promenade for additional fun nearby

I wanted to take my husband to papi's because i heard it's halal and i heard about the good reviews. There can be a bit of a wait since they make the food FRESH. But it's worth it. In terms of taste and value, they have the juiciest meat we have ever had in tacos, perhaps EVER. On my first bite, the meat was so juicy that the juice from the meat squirted from my mouth to my husband's hand on the table!!! The food was gone in 2 minutes. The food was so good that after we ate the tacos we lined up and ordered again, this time getting a burrito (very filling) and another queso taco to share. The only drawback is that facilities are not always the best in terms of cleanliness and bathrooms. The staff is decent, not necessarily friendly nor do they go above and beyond; nevertheless, they do do their job and make good food. If you are looking for juicy and delicious tacos that are decently priced, come here. If you need to eat halal and want amazing food as well (options can be limited sometimes), this is an excellent option!

These were the BESTTT carne asada quesadillas! My bf said the tacos were really good as well - they had a delicious smoky taste and the meat wasn't as tough as it usually is IYKYK. Both tacos and quesadilla had onions, guacamole, radish, and lime. I also love that they have the option of a small or large quesadilla. Their horchata paired perfectly as well! The server and staff were all SUPER SWEET especially an hour before they closed. Plenty of seating inside and outside for a group of friends. Will be back for some more!!

This place was great! I loved the design. It really stood out from the surrounding stores in terms of design, and I really liked the open seating. Service was okay. Looking at the food, I was told to get birria, and it for sure did not disappoint at all. From the taco itself to the consume and salsa, everything has a part to play in flavor that brings everything together. To preface, birria isn't typically my favorite meat when it comes to tacos, but when done right, it really hits the spot. Eating the burrito with the hot consume and salsa combined, you're getting the tenderness from the meat, followed by the warm, flavorful combination of the salsa and consume, giving it the homey and heartwarming taste, yet very layered in flavor. The quesabirria brought it to another level, bringing in even more flavor. As for the churros, they were okay, enjoyable, but nothing stood out. Not as airy or warm as some of the better ones I've had. Also not getting that airier feel and I would like more cinnamon and sugar, rather than the dough, which again was rather dense. Overall great experience on the tacos, and would definitely go again for birria.

Came here on a work trip. Didn't have to wait that long, even though our team of 6 ordered a bunch of things. I went with the 3 steak tacos. They're street sized, so you can probably order more than you think. The meat was really flavorful, and tortillas tasted really fresh. The churros were also really good. Nice and crispy. I would definitely visit again.

I am still thinking about the food we had here. We got the OG Birria plate and it's a great size to share between 2 people if you need a quick bite while shopping and don't want to eat super heavy. The flavor was so rich and tasty. It wasn't busy inside but it was a bit of a wait to get our food. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and is in a convenient spot if you're shopping around The Promenade.

Food was so tasty we were hungry and forgot to take a pic. I had the ramen noodles and they were really good. Lots of beef. You order on the counter and they will call your name. Decor is cute. You can sit outside. Only thing. Their menu is printed in a very old piece of paper. I'd suggest to print it again and laminate.

The work was tedious, the people often annoying, but the learning real. And I would duck out to grab a burrito at TPF at lunch because the walk there and back was almost meditative. TPF speaks to an earlier version of Santa Monica, before Silicon Beach happened. When Dogtown was still in transition, the commercial and industrial spaces still plentiful, and the creativity flowed. I usually get a chicken burrito. It's great. The space hasn't changed. And is never crowded. I had ingested several bites of it, (with hot sauce), but I couldn't take another bite. The meat was chemically contaminated & I got sick not long after for the whole night. It was important for me to tell the person that runs the stand. I had the best of intentions to help this business and wanted nothing in return. I walked up to the stand & asked the woman who takes the cash, (with the sharp eyebrows), if I could please speak to the person in charge, (or owner). At first she ignored me & then said, "I don't understand - no speak English." I asked who speaks English and she sent me to the back of the line by the cooks. I stood there for another 10 minutes and no one wanted to talk to me or answer my question. I told them that there was a big problem with their meat the night before & had brought back the entire meal, so they could try the meat. No one did anything except talk to each other in Spanish, (which I understood). The cook graciously offered me a replacement meal & tried to problem solve. The tall man, who spoke English, (as shown next to cashier Karen in the photo), was going to give me a replacement meal. I waited 15-20 minutes. I asked for the chicken quesadilla, and the vitriol that came out of cashier Karen, who said she didn't speak English was unbelievable. She refused to give me any food and said I had to pay $6 for the replacement taco. I tried to tell her that it was a replacement and she kept yelling aggressively at me and said, "no - you pay $6. You're not getting anything " and that I, "never bought any taco." She became angry and verbally abusive because I was getting a replacement meal, as a solution to my getting chemically poisoned. She was a bully and aggressively yelling at me to humiliate me in front of the other customers & personnel. By this time she had no problem speaking English. (A group of young ladies started talking to me, felt bad that I was the focus of cashier Karen's rudeness. They complimented me & wished me a good night.) The guy next to cashier Karen handed me the bag with the quesadilla. I asked cashier Karen for her name and she ignored me. Then I asked the guy next to her what her name was and he put his hands together like duck lips and rudely opened and closed his hand at me, (meaning that I'm talking to much) This was extremely inappropriate & as soon as I left, I threw the food out, because I didn't trust or hold it past any of them to have put something nasty in my food. By the way, there was never a possibility that I would be refunded. By this time I was so upset, I was sorry that I had generously tipped them the night before. Even cashier Karen's response to the tip had been of surprise; but then I remembered she had not even acknowledged it or said thank you, after receiving it. What this staff does not, is that I owned and operated a successful fine dining restaurant & wedding venue for 17 years. I have done consulting for small restaurant businesses, pro bono, in order for the businesses to financially thrive. I know how food is cooked, how it should be stored, when the oil needs to be changed, marketing, accounting, et al., as well as the health dept's requirements, in order to keep the public healthy and well. What I believe happened to the meat and reason I took my food back to the taco stand; is because they had been out of chicken. Since there was a meat shortage, more carne asada needed to be barbecued quickly. An abundance of lighter fluid was used to quicken the process & it possibly got on the grill, where the meat is placed; and the cooking process started well before the coals were ready. It shouldn't matter whether you go to a restaurant, food truck or taco stand, customers should be treated with respect, kindness & consideration - and it's called customer service. A customer shouldn't be lied to, yelled at, insulted and humiliated by any employee of the business. It should be run in a transparent and professional manner. I'm 64 yrs young & have never written one negative comment or review about any restaurant. Nor have I ever been treated with such disrespect, malice and ill intent. I felt it important to tell my story because nobody should experience what I did; in eating compromised food and then being made to feel like I did something bad. This is what bullies do and I've never had a problem in clarifying right from wrong, as well as responsibility and accountability. I didn't have a choice and had to give a star.
