New to the Mesquite area and saw good rating close by in Sunnyvale and thought we'd try out some eats that haven't been reviewed. Right away, you see a sign at the host table recommending to pay in cash; there is a $3 added fee for credit. No problemo. It has been open under Papin's for a year. Complimentary basket of chips/salsa. We began with Appetizer Trio (fresh guac, mild chile con queso blanco, shredded chicken quesadilla x4); all 3 were great tasting and we demolished it. For entrees, we ordered the Trio Combo (tamale, chicken enchilada, crispy/soft ground beef taco) rice & charro beans; 6-count Nachos Texanos appetizer (beef fajita) - these reminded me of how ceviche is served because there was fajita aplenty on top n barely notice the cheese on the individual tiny Tostadas but tender YUM; Enchiladas Texanas plate (cheese); and, 2 Tostadas plate (1 beef/1 chicken). We cleaned our plates. I was impressed the most with my Tostadas... The ground beef was THE BEST! I LOVE A MESSY TOSTADA just like a greasy burger topped off with Mexican crema & queso fresco! The Spanish rice had good flavor and the refried beans too. Service was friendly. There's only one waitress for about 3-4 tables at the time but she was sweet and we were patient. The food came out hot and fresh. The prices are very fair for the portions served. I think this is a GEM of a place and I can't wait to try ALL DAY BREAKFAST and their Huevos Rancheros. There's room for big parties to seat 20 as well and also a few booths for just 2. My only complaint is how warm it was in the restaurant. read more

I was in the area visiting family and had a craving for shrimp fajitas and a margarita and this was such a hidden gem find ! It was so cute and clean with great decor! My wife and I took one look at each other knew this was finally it Chips and salsa: nailed it. Not greasy at all. No stale chips in sight. Fresh and good heat in the salsa with actual flavor. Do not order from this place unless you want to get ripped off. Ordered combination fajitas for two, large queso, and quesadillas. Portions were basically for one. Few charro beans each, tiny scoop of rice, and no fajita setup. Meat tasted like rubber, like it was microwaved. They claim you get 4 oz of salsa with the total order, and it came in what looked like a Jell-O shot container. Ordered an extra 8 oz of salsa and got charged $10 even though the website says $5. I order the app trio with seasoned chicken quesadilla, Blanca queso And guacamole paired with the BROKEN HEART margarita. My table mates told me I made a great choice. Hidden Gem Worth Discovering! We were a bit skeptical at first--the restaurant is tucked away and the parking lot was empty (though we did arrive close to closing time). Well I'm adding Papin's to my list of favorite restaurants. I love a good fish Taco. This is just the way I like it. It has white fish, cabbage and a special sauce. You can choose if you'd like a flower or a corn tortilla. I love corn tortillas for this. The black beans and rice were excellent. And the salsa is one of the best I've had locally. It's a unique flavor and is moderately spicy which is just the way I like it. This is definitely a restaurant I'm going to be coming back too often. read more

My wife and I were driving by and notice a new restaurant. The location is great we stopped by for lunch on a Saturday and the food options were amazing. I had the beef fajitas and my wife got the papin shrimp. They were great options loved the. We have been there many times for breakfast and the chilaquiles rojos and verdes are wow just like home cooking. I strongly recommend them. The cafe de olla is a must have real traditional Mexican coffee. This is a must on sundays they have mariachi playing. Food and service is top notch. Give this place a try!! read more

So we decided to try this restaurant out on a Sunday, which was yesterday and first thing I noticed was there was only three or four cars there which to me says a lot of people don't go here, especially when the restaurant next-door is packed. The table at which me and my family were placed at had dirty chairs ( other people hair was stuck on the chair) and the table itself was uneven. My plate would be wobbly sitting in front of me, which would make sauce spill a little bit if not careful. Second, I ordered the Quesabirrias meal which looked good in the picture and good in front of me but had an awful smell and taste. I'm not sure if that meat was from earlier on in the week or what, but it did not taste as good as it looked. My son had quesadillas with rice which he didn't like and didn't finish My daughter had Carna Asada sopas which my daughter ate with no problem but later that night she had developed severe food poisoning symptoms. We used to go when it was Tacos La Carretera. We went not knowing it had been sold and was changed to Papin's. Definitely not going back. The only good thing were the drinks and that's probably because it's the same bartender. We ordered the Queso Flameado, it arrived at the table looking like chorizo covered in shredded cheese that had been put in the oven. My husband had the $20 Carne Asada and it had no flavor at all. He used the corn tortillas to make tacos and you could only taste the tortillas. This dinner was very disappointing and not worth the $61 check. read more

To start, the music here was WAY too loud. It was so loud that everyone had to raise their voices to talk which then made it even louder in there. Our service was fine except they messed up my child's meal not once, but twice, so he had to wait for a long time to be able to eat. I ordered a steak quesadilla and the meat in this definitely didn't have the texture of steak. The queso was superb. My daughter had a burger and said it was very good. Overall I might consider going back if the music weren't so overwhelmingly loud. Im giving four stars when three is more warranted as I know this is a newer business and hopefully they get better. read more

Not a friendly atmosphere servers/hostess was not very warm made my wife and I feel unwelcome. This was my second and last time as we left before ordering I was told they ran out of ground beef 1.5 hours before closing. Who does that. Racism at its finest.
