I ended up paying approximately $700 -- including roughly $400 for an after-hours visit and another $300 for diagnostic/service work -- yet they failed to correctly diagnose the problem. What was especially frustrating is that the AC would sometimes begin working again temporarily. On the third day, Airmerica arrived while the system happened to be working and essentially told me that because it was operating at that moment, they could not find anything wrong and there was nothing they could do. Of course, the problem returned. After multiple visits and work that included addressing the drain line and installing a flapper, the AC continued to fail. Airmerica eventually concluded that the control board was defective and wanted to install a replacement board, with approximately $500 in labor, even though the board itself was covered under warranty. I subsequently had the company that originally installed the system inspect it. They identified the actual problem as a short in the low-voltage wiring between the upstairs air handler and the outdoor unit, not the control board. I understand that intermittent problems can be more difficult to diagnose. But that is precisely why I hired an HVAC company and paid hundreds of dollars for professional diagnostic expertise. An intermittent problem does not disappear simply because the equipment happens to be working when the technician arrives. After multiple visits, approximately $700 in charges, unsuccessful interventions, and days of dealing with an unreliable AC system, I was then being directed toward yet another repair that another HVAC professional determined was not the source of the problem. Based on my experience, I have very little confidence in Airmerica's diagnostic process. If they recommend an expensive repair, I strongly suggest getting an independent second opinion before authorizing it.

The price was also very competitive with the other options. We did have a delay in starting as they had a mix-up on install dates and had to postpone one day. However, George called and apologized and offered a discount for the mistake and to charge our current system to help keep the house cool until they came out the next day, which I think reflects how he runs a customer focused business. When he did come out that day I had more questions about the setup and based on our discussion we changed the coil for more flexibility in moving the unit in the attic one day. It was pretty clear that George runs a solid business; he double checked they left no trash after leaving, his workers made sure to set up mats everywhere they worked inside, they let us know when they would be using louder tools (as we have a baby), and they stayed until the unit was fully installed which meant they stayed pretty late. I very much welcomed the early arrival as the heat was starting to escalate. It took Jim literally 3 minutes to diagnose the problem of our AC, a burnt relay contact (I wrongly predicted a faulty capacitor). This is how you know you are dealing with an experienced professional when he brings out only the necessary tools and leaves the work site clean. Jim was in and out in about 35 minutes (should have been less than 30 if I hadn't asked questions). As they say in the industry, there are no second chances for first impressions, Because of this, I'll give them my business for AC maintenance moving forward due to my great experience, promptly saving me and family from roasting in an above average SoCal summer. Listening to KSON, they recommended Mauzzy ( spelling???) heating and air so I called them for a $99 inspection. Long story short, the guy said my unit was too old and he recommended replacing the entire unit for $16-20k. I said nope and he left. I was at my favorite coffee shop telling a friend about this when another gentleman overheard me. He recommended Jim to me. Jim comes out, runs a few test & in less than 10 minutes finds the issue. He had to order the part so I had to wait a few weeks ( no big deal ). He gets the part in, schedules a convenient time for me to install the part costing me a total of $220.
