It was unfortunately not expected to get an AC repair tech to come down within the same day during summer time. First company I called was booking 2 days out. I instead opted to call someone local to me (Escondido) instead of someone having to drive from 20 miles out. I called Monday morning, was booked for that same afternoon as our AC decided not to work at 1am. Surprisingly, Jim arrived just before 12pm as he was already in the area. I very much welcomed the early arrival as the heat was starting to escalate. It took Jim literally 3 minutes to diagnose the problem of our AC, a burnt relay contact (I wrongly predicted a faulty capacitor). This is how you know you are dealing with an experienced professional when he brings out only the necessary tools and leaves the work site clean. Jim was in and out in about 35 minutes (should have been less than 30 if I hadn't asked questions). As they say in the industry, there are no second chances for first impressions, Because of this, I'll give them my business for AC maintenance moving forward due to my great experience, promptly saving me and family from roasting in an above average SoCal summer. My house was built in the early 80's. I purchased it in 2016 & honestly believe the HVAC unit is the original. One day, my unit just stops blowing hot air. Now, living in San Diego, this really isn't an issue but every now and then Escondido has extremely cold nights. I decided to have the unit inspected looking for advice on repairs. Listening to KSON, they recommended Mauzzy ( spelling???) heating and air so I called them for a $99 inspection. Long story short, the guy said my unit was too old and he recommended replacing the entire unit for $16-20k. I said nope and he left. I was at my favorite coffee shop telling a friend about this when another gentleman overheard me. He recommended Jim to me. Jim comes out, runs a few test & in less than 10 minutes finds the issue. He had to order the part so I had to wait a few weeks ( no big deal ). He gets the part in, schedules a convenient time for me to install the part costing me a total of $220. I cannot recommend Jim enough, he is truly honest, reliable, & dependable. Imagine being told you needed $16k replacement when all you needed was $200 part.... I can't recommend him enough. Today he arrived 3 hours late, wearing an ugly blue diaper, (the kind that gives chemical toxins), told me he had forgotton the appointment to give a bid. Maybe he is suffering brain damage from low oxygen levels masked? I don't allow masked workers on my property without an MD order or OSHA permit in order to comply with CA law. He fully believes the hoax and the liars on TV and government, refused to unmask, then got mad and left. He loves the hoax more than his job of helping customers with HVAC. read more

Jim installed a new heater for me 4 years ago. It started making noises and dripping water (condensation), so he came out and made the necessary repairs. When I paid the bill, he told me I had also paid for a service call for my air-conditioner, and to call him within 30 days and he would come out and service that for another $30. I've made numerous calls (left messages and actually talked to Pam several times with her promising to call back with an appointment time), and even signed up for appointment times on their website, all to no avail. They WILL NOT return a phone call and complete the service promised. My air-conditioner is very old and I'm sure I'll need a new one soon, - guess who I WILL NOT be calling to install a new one??? read more

Our 21 yo gas wall heater in our accessory unit in Encinitas would only turn on intermittently for many years, needing to be kicked to respond. We had a different repairman come out to "fix" it 5 years ago, but when we called him back within the week because it still wasn't fixed, he charged us again to come out and still didn't really fix it. We went ahead and replaced the thermostat ourselves which seemed to help. That left us not trusting his competency, so when it flat out wouldn't start at all this season, we searched for someone who would be more competent (and available.) In making calls around (based on google and yelp reviews), I quickly learned that most of the bigger companies weren't interested in my little wall furnace (everything has shifted to HVAC over the years), and likely many of their service people would not have the experience working on an older wall furnace. Then I found Jim's A/C and Heating. I liked the fact that it is a small company and Jim himself does most of the work, who has been in business for many decades. Nothing takes the place of experience. I called and left a message about the problem and Jim himself called me back later that same day and was able to come out to evaluate the problem the next day. Well, not only did he methodically and patiently go through a thorough evaluation, he was able to replace a needed part (fortunately, he actually had this part in his truck, which had been there for years...it's an old furnace!), and also checked out anything else that could be the problem. Presto! It's now responsive and working well. He also let us know that if it fails anytime over the next 30 days that we would not be charged another service fee to come out again. Jim told me that one of his very first jobs was repairing Sears wall heaters. It's obvious that he really knows what he's doing! Not only that, he is kind, friendly, incredibly patient and charges very reasonably. He also didn't try to upsell me, pointing out that the heater body is still solid and should last a lifetime. What a good and ethical man! We are grateful to have found him, and he will now be our go-to guy for any heater or HVAC problems! read more

I got service from Jim's A/C about a year ago, but I want to review them before I forget to. Basically my house A/C wasn't cooling the house and so I got 2 estimates from other local companies. The other 2 businesses gave me estimates for my whole house complete A/C replacements, which meant big bucks. When Jim came to check out my house, he found out it was simple problem and got it working again within minutes, so it didn't end up costing me an arm and a leg! Jim was able to inspect and service my AC unit with complete professionalism. The only reason I didn't give a 5 Star review is he showed completed unexpectedly. I called to have the AC checked because it made a noise when it was running. It worked ok but was noisy. Frankly I felt is was better to get it checked out right away than to wait until it broke down. An appointment was made but then postponed due to too many others needing service during a hot period of time. Ok, I wasn't an emergency so I agreed. Jim didn't show up for that rescheduled appointment so I called and was told his other stops were taking much longer than expected and he wouldn't be able to get to me. Would it be ok if we waited a few days. I said ok and rescheduled again. This time he simply didn't show up so I called someone else. Turns out that person couldn't get to me as he also had too many emergencies. Next thing I know Jim pulls into my driveway to service my unit. Totally unexpected. Since he was here I said go ahead. The work was excellent and the AC has been operating with no problems ever since. So being in the business fro over 40 years (but not the service side) I can really appreciate a good service tech. and a good service call. I called Jim's A. C. about 10:00 in the morning and explained my issue. The dispatcher said she would see what she could do to help, It wasn't 3 hours later Bill called and said he was 15 mins. out. Called this company and made an appointment to charge my mini-splits. Made the appointment for 8:30 and rearranged my schedule to accommodate. 8:30 came and went, then 9:00, then 9:30, then 10. Still no service guy shows. Shortly after 10 i get a call, had to leave, so i cancelled. My one star is based on this company's inability to either show up on time or give a courtesy call letting me know that they will be late. This strikes me as a company that has no respect for anyones time. As a service contractor myself, the thing i hate worst is having my time wasted. read more

My air conditioner conveniently decided to stop working when it was 100 degrees in Escondido. Not super fun when your pregnant. I reached out to Jim's yesterday, Monday, to inquire about having a technician coming out. They thought they could fit us in that day, but if not definitely on Tuesday afternoon. By 4:30 I still had not heard back regarding a same day appointment, and called to check the technicians status... No answer. They called back around 6pm to let me know that Monday wasn't going to work, but Tuesday afternoon was free. We set a time of between 4 and 5 o'clock. They told me they would call 30 minutes before the tech would arrive. Well, here it is Tuesday night and my air conditioning is still broken. They never called 30 minutes before arriving, probably because they never showed. I called and left a message and received no call back. I've scheduled an appointment with someone else for tomorrow. If you want to hire someone who is going to do what the say say, don't go with Jim's. read more

SDG&E had red tagged the furnace and what was mentioned is that the your specific unit needed someone licensed and insured to do the repair based on the fact the furnace was red tagged. Recently, my central heating system is not blowing any air, so I needed a HVAC professional to come check it out. I decided to call a big reputable company in the area to get the best service and expertise I can get...so I thought!!! They sent someone out to make the diagnosis ($134) of the problem. The man spent about 2 mins in my attic and decided that it was a blower motor malfunction. He said he could replace with a new motor for $800 (less the diagnostic fee). Even though I'm not a handyman and clueless about this kind of stuff, but I thought this cost was rather high. So I told the man that I would think about it. I then decided to call another professional to get a second opinion. That's when I found the wonderful people at JIM'S AC & HEATING. I told them what's going on. They asked if they could come and take a look for themselves, I agreed. They sent a man named Bill, a delightful, knowledgeable professional. Bill spent a short few minutes in the attic and did his diagnosis. He found out right away that it was never the motor malfunction, it was only a capacitor that was blown. A very common and much, much cheaper problem. The capacitor $55, diagnostic fee $80, total $135. Problem solved in 5mins. Bill said the guy from the other comp didn't even bother checking for the first and most common problem, instead trying to replace a perfect working motor in an attempt to charge me way more than I should have. I was flabbergasted for two reasons: one, the first guy was either incompetent or completely dishonest. Two, Bill was so HONEST and knowledgeable. Bill could have gone with the first narrative and replace the motor then charge me a lot more than just a capacitor, but he didn't!! Not only Bill saved me a few hundred bucks, he also spent a lot of time educating me how to be energy efficient and taking care of my heating & AC system. I was very impressed with Jim's AC & heating from the first phone call to the end result. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They deserved all the stars!!! read more
