I really enjoy the overall atmosphere and aesthetic of this shop--it's clearly designed with intention, and the interior setup is super visually appealing. It's easy to see why it's become such a popular spot, especially for people in their 20s looking for that perfect, modern coastal vibe. The merchandise is great too--stylish, on-trend, and fits perfectly with the brand they're going for. It's definitely a place you want to take your time browsing. That said, the space is pretty small, and at times it can feel like the staff is watching you while you shop. I completely understand that it comes with the size of the store, but it can make the experience feel a little less relaxed. I do wish there were some outdoor seating or a bit more space to hang out, because the aesthetic really lends itself to that kind of environment. Overall, it's a really cool shop with a strong identity and great products--just a few small tweaks could make the experience even better. read more

Stopped by this surf shop while browsing for some casual gear and ended up walking out with a Ronan Polo I didn't know I needed. It was on sale, which was already a nice surprise, but the real reason I pulled the trigger was Jack W. He was easygoing, knowledgeable, and had that low-pressure style that makes shopping actually enjoyable. He pointed out the fit and fabric details I would've missed and made sure I got the right size. The store itself has a great beach vibe organized layout, solid mix of surfwear and casual pieces, and prices that don't feel inflated like some coastal shops. Super cute "cafe"/surf shop. Their matcha was delicious and their coffee was honestly better than bird rock coffee roasters across the street. Definitely a nice spot to grab a drink near the beach. Would love a more welcoming staff, but what do I expect...it's a surf shop. read more

The cafe is a letdown. The staff was just sitting around on the countertops, and they seemed bothered when people came up to order. The barista who took my order was rude when I asked about his thoughts on the menu, and specifically the matcha. I should have just walked out, but I paid for the overpriced grass water. Took a couple sips and threw it out before I got back to my car. From a retail perspective, Hermosa Surf is solid. Nice selection of merch and surfboards. Great decor throughout the space that gives retro surf vibes. read more

My friend and I visited to grab some coffee before the beach, but we weren't very impressed with the iced vanilla lattes we ordered. The taste of the coffee was off and wasn't very enjoyable. However, the interior of the cafe was very cute and there's some seating to do work inside. We didn't try anything else on the menu but would definitely pass on their coffee. read more

I so badly wanted to like this place! (This review is only for their matcha). We visited on a Thursday morning and the line was pretty short. Parking is tough on the main road but theres a bunch of residential side streets. Its a cute little shop with about 3 tables for people to sit at, the rest of the space is a surf shop with apparel and boards. We got an iced matcha and a hot matcha. We were happy to hear all drinks are already made with oat milk. The cashier was very friendly. Unfortunately the matcha fell short. The iced matcha only tasted like oat milk. The hot matcha was much better because I think they added cinnamon and you could taste the matcha a bit more, but nothing memorable. read more

What a cute place. The customer service was amazing!! The coffee was delicious. I don't remember what the drink we had was called something Frothy it was perfect just the right amount of sweet. Great service from the cashier, super friendly! Unfortunately, they were having a technical issue with the blenders today, so we couldn't try the smoothies. My goshhh, I REALLY wanted to like this place. I found it on tik tok and it had high reviews but the service sucked SOO so bad I waited 35 mins for a smoothie. The kids who work here talked to the person in front of me for at least 4 mins after they were already charged, I don't mind the laughter and connecting with customers, I just felt like it was inconsiderate to the line that was forming. I was running to a Pilates class afterwards and I missed the grace period for the class and got charged $14 for my class cancellation fee.. basically the price of the smoothie. The actual smoothie was pretty good, I just wish the service matched up to it. I wouldn't plan to make this a little stop here if you have things to do afterwards but I would come back if I had the time to spare. read more

I got their citrus sea smoothie, which was very good and I enjoyed the interior and vibe of it all the smoothie had a nice citrus but still sweet flavor it wasn't grainy at all but had a nice smooth texture. The service was good too the person was nice enough to allow me adjust something in the smoothie, they also told me which one didn't contain the ingredient I didn't want which was so nice. The place was also very clean and didn't have any bad smells. Overall everything was enjoyable and I cannot wait to try more of their smoothies. read more

Do not believe the hype about their drinks! I ordered the butterfly pea matcha which tasted absolutely nothing like matcha or butterfly pea; if anything it just tasted like sugar. Some other people whom I met here also complained that their matcha and coffee drinks were also bad. Definitely not just me... Have only come for the smoothies. First time I tried the Bird Rock Banana and it was ok, very heavy for me, but loved the peanut butter pretzel situation. The next time I tried the Early Bird, and it was tops, it hit. I don't know the going rate for smoothies these days, but I think they're getting kind of spendy. Appreciate that there's no added sugar though. read more

Aesthetics: exactly what you'd think of a cool California vibe. Everything is super aesthetically pleasing and perfect for a vibe picture. Matcha: it was very sweet and milky. I'm someone who likes that, but if you like yours more grassy you probably won't like this. Cons: All the things here are really expensive. Definitely has a certain clientele to shop. I was in the area grabbing pastries from Wayfarer Bread and stopped by here. It's a pretty small shop and more for taking out to go than for studying. They sell a lot of materials for surfing, which I thought was pretty cool. We got a matcha from here and another smoothie of sorts. The matcha fell a bit short for me and mostly tasted like milk, but I also prefer drinks that have a stronger tea base so I think it may have just been a personal preference. The other smoothie was alright, pretty creative flavors they have going on here. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our orders out but the staff was very friendly about it and honestly not the biggest deal. Overall, it's a cute little shop in La Jolla with surf-related items. read more

For some reason this place is known for their matcha, but it's simply not good. Don't waste your money just because it's cute looking! I would consider myself a matcha connoisseur, and know what a good matcha consists of, despite what it tastes like, it should have certain aspects like texture, color, and consistency that make it good. They miss on all these levels! Don't get me wrong, it's a cute shop, but don't get the matcha because you saw it was "the best" on TikTok. read more

The young kids working were super chill and helpful. This review is for the older guy. (Not the one with the long hair and beard) Bro made me log back into yelp. Dudes a dick. Zero social skills. Came here after seeing many posts about how Hermosa Surf has the best matcha. I was highly disappointed. As someone who loves matcha and has tried matcha lattes at cafes all over San Diego, I would not call this matcha one of the best I've had. I could not taste the matcha at all and the latte tasted more like straight soy milk. The regular size was $6.99. The aesthetic and vibe of Hermosa Surf is very fitting for its location. Service was very friendly as well! read more

Got the best iced matcha latte 16oz and it was so underwhelming. It was roughly $6 and they are not worth the money at all. The service was good. They are kind and respectful. I understand if they are mainly a retail store which explains why their drinks are subpar. I also went down the street to Mas Matcha and they have a matcha latte for $7.50 but it is definitely worth your money. The matcha latte at the surf shop is 5/10 and you can barely taste any matcha flavor in it. Meanwhile the mas matcha is 10/10. read more

The prices here are definitely on the pricier side ($200-500), but I was able to get a good 5/3 wetsuit deal for about 120$. I'm excited to try it out. Fittings rooms are reasonable size. I felt like a seal when I was able to fully try one on. Lots of great selections to look at!!! My girlfriend wanted to get a bikini on the sale, but lots of the tops and bottoms were missing each other counterparts.

And just hanging out for the mornings with the kids and surf friends. Teachers did a morning stretch and then got them out on the water. My son was catching waves right away. Mid-day they had snack break and made sure to reapply sunscreen. Last day they had a pizza party at the surf shack for all the girls and boys.
