I recently moved to the Columbus area and decided to buy a single-speed city bike for commuting and recreation. I checked out a lot of bike stores in the area, and the staff at most of them was surprisingly unhelpful, with a couple of exceptions. The atmosphere at PG, however, was totally different. The staff is very courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful. I ended up purchasing a custom Pake build from PG, and the owner/manager was very helpful in offering suggestions for selection of components on my bike. They got me fitted to the perfect size frame, suggested the perfect gearing ratio for this city's terrain, and did not delay in getting the parts ordered and the bike built. I have been extremely happy with my bike! One of the best things about PG is that they offer FREE lifetime service on bikes purchased from them! I have never encountered or even heard of this kind of offer before. Routine bike maintenance and repairs can add up over the years, so this alone is worth giving PG your business. Entering the store, it may seem that all they know is city and road bikes, but this is not true. The owner is an avid mountain biker, and they deal Kona, a leading brand in many mountain bike categories. I will be taking my Kona CoilAir to PG for maintenance from now on, too. I rented a bike for Pelotonia weekend and if I decide to ride again, I will absolutely 100% be doing it again! The process to rent online was super easy (make sure to get a bike for your appropriate height!!!! I cannot stress that enough) and they made special accommodations to ensure the bike was at the Welcome Rally which made it super easy on me. I understand that everyone's rental experience won't be for Pelotonia but every person on the staff that I interacted with was very nice, helpful, and responsive! Am I a clothing store or a bike store? Can't I be both? Yes, Paradise Garage, I give you my permission to be both because you do both so well! Not that I can fit into any of your clothing designs, I do admire the "cyclist look". You guys know what I'm talking about. Neutral colors, cardigans, straight leg tight pants, oh the layers! It looks hip and comfortable and all too small for me. Now on to the bikes. Expensive, but really top of the line. I was approached by a friendly sales girl and talked her up a bit on bikes. You see, I haven't owned one since I was about 12 years old and know nothing about which bikes would be good for the city versus bikes for trails and so on. There's also the stipulation that I'm short. Like, seriously short. 5' 2" short, and that means I need to find a bike that I can actually mount. I expressed my concerns to Hip Sales Girl and she showed me an array of bikes that could be easily adjusted to fit me. Even one of those rad foldaway bikes. None of which were in my price range, but that didn't stop me from trying them out. In fact, they highly encourage that you test ride their bikes before purchasing. How responsible! If I ever come across $200 - $300 I'll purchase a bike from Paradise Garage, but I think for now I'll start on a beat up used bike that's more within my price range. read more

Paradise Garage is freakin' rad. This clothing boutique/bicycle shop (yep, you read that correctly) makes me wish I were more of a bicycler. The shop makes it look so effortlessly cool. I was particularly intrigued by their cool jeans that only cost $80. Sure, they aren't True Religion or anything, but for denim in the Short North...unbeatable. Oh, and then there are the bikes. They have a nice selection (along with some accessories) of hip-looking rides. Aside from the trendy clothes and bikes, the shop is just fun to be in. The employees are friendly and helpful. So my friend borrowed my bike while I was out of town. He left it in front of Betty's apparently, because as I walked down the street this morning I found it locked to a street sign, minus a front wheel. HA HA HA! That's hilarious! Where do people fence these things? I see bikes without front wheels locked to street signs all the time. Really. Where's the spot? Because I want to go into business. Anyway, I walked shamefully down the street, useless bike hefted over my shoulder, and just locked it to a sign in front of my apartment. Stupid bike. But then, this provided the perfect reason to finally check out Paradise Garage. Much more down to earth than I expected. The prices were way cheaper than I was prepared for, too. This is exactly the right kind of bike shop for the short north. Completely unpretentious, stocked with affordable attractive bikes, great gear, and hip clothes. You can have a killer road bike for a couple hundred dollars, or you can have a super duper killer bike for a grand. They carry a wide range of stock, including those awkward looking city cruisers that people seem to like so much. read more

Great bike shop with knowledgeable owners. I recently bought a bike and really wanted to customize it. Dan helped me out by finding parts and also helped to refine my ideas for the job. So far we've updated a lot about the bike, and all at a reasonable price. I'm far from being a legit cyclist in columbus, and all the while, i didn't feel like the owners treated me like a martian for not knowing everything about the bike. We paid nearly $200 for my husband's old bike to receive an inspection and "tune up." Not really sure what they spent all of that time/money on, considering the bike did not ride much different afterwards. The front tire had a leak that was not there when we dropped it off and it somehow went unnoticed by the technician. We ended up having the leak repaired by another shop in Becker. I would not recommend Paradise Garage and do not plan to trust them with our bikes ever again. read more

I was visiting family in Worthington, Ohio and wanted to get outside for some cycling. I had difficulty finding a place that would rent a quality road bike. Paradise rented me a Specialized Diverge with Shimano 105 components. They included a helmet and tool kit, which was handy to make some comfort adjustments. The bicycle was in great condition. At $45/day, I was very pleased. There was no hassle picking up and returning the bike. All the staff were excellent. I will certainly rent from then again on my next visit. read more

We rented the low entry bikes on Saturday to ride around Columbus. The bikes were great, very easy to ride and comfortable. We road from 12-8 and were comfortable all day. We would definitely rent the bikes again and even buy similar ones eventually we liked them so much!! The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is we had difficulty returning them on Sunday. Paradise wasn't open and no one told us on Saturday that we wouldn't be able to return them. We were from out of town and our flight left Sunday evening. We had to leave the bikes locked to the bike rack in front of the store for when they opened on Monday. We were nervous about leaving the bikes but had no other choice. My son then had to go back to the shop on Monday to give them the keys to the locks. It really wasn't a bid deal other than it would have been nice to know in advanced how to handle the return with them being closed. Most importantly the bikes were great and we had a great time!! read more

Paradise Garage is a top notch sales and service business. I bought my bike there 10 years ago. Each and every time I have had service there it has been prompt, professional and personal. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. This week I took my bike in for service without notice and was told it was a busy day but that they would schedule it for the next morning. I didn't start cycling seriously till this year and I've gleaned a lot of useful info from them each time I've visited the shop. Their prices are very fair. They have installed all the gear/accessories that I bought there for free and quickly. It's a pretty small place, but they are expanding soon if they haven't already. I wish them the best and have made them my go-to place for all my cycling needs. I'd like to give PG five stars, but I've had some less-than-great customer service experiences. The selection is good, and if you buy a bike there, labor on it for any future maintenance/installations is free--a big selling point for me. However, a few of the mechanics/salespeople seem like they can't be bothered to talk to someone who doesn't know a ton about bikes. I'm definitely a biking acolyte, and don't get me wrong, they have a few people who are open and kind and great, but I've felt condescended to more than once when asking about how a certain repair works, why I might choose one [insert bike brand or style] over another, etc. Step off your high horse and just be excited that somebody wants to share your hobby with you in some way. read more

I've always loved coming here. My first experience was with having my 3 year old Surly LHT professionally tuned for the first time. It was very reasonable and made me feel serious regret that I bought my bike at Bear Wheels. PG gives free house tunes for life on bikes they sell you. My next experience was bringing in a trashed Gary Fisher for which I paid nothing to have lots of rusty components swapped out and have some studded tires put on for a winter ride. They did a great job of course, and even got the old weathered shifters to work. The cost was a lot less than I thought it would be, I only paid around $125 to get a free, totally beat up bike restored and the turnaround time was excellent. Then a few days ago, my Surly was stolen off my porch. I commute every day and don't have any other form of transportation, so I didn't want to waste any time getting on a new bike while I await insurance processes, and I called them before coming in to see what they had on the floor that would be comparable and affordable right away. They were of course very sympathetic and very helpful with recommendations for something that would work as hard for me as my Trucker would, and I picked a 2013 Salsa Vaya 2 on sale for the same cost of a 2014 LHT, and in many ways it is a better bike. I applied for financing and was generously financed to buy the bike and accessories I wanted as I definitely didn't have the cash on hand for it, and the next day I picked it up after they installed fenders and a rack and a framesaver application. I'm so glad I was spared the trouble and expense of trying desperately to make room a credit card, and the 1 year without interest saves me a lot of money while I wait for insurance to pay out. Even if it weren't going to be paid for by my insurance it is still a really incredible deal, cause what 20something has $2K just laying around to replace a stolen bike? I love their very complete selection of apparel, tools, and accessories. You can definitely count on their goods to be of sound quality. I usually buy that kind of stuff online, where it's obviously a little cheaper, but their prices are still pretty competitive for a brick and mortar store, which is really good when you need something right away. I'm really glad there's such a reliable, helpful bike shop in town staffed with knowledgable folks with positive attitudes. As much as it sucks to have a ride stolen I'm glad I finally got to buy a bike from this place, since I can count on a lifetime of quality, free basic service. I probably wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Great service. I called them to replace my chain at 5:30PM on a Sunday then hurried over. Despite the fact that the repair was challenging and more extensive than just the chain, the helpful and friendly mechanic stayed past the 6PM closing to get it done so I could commute to work Monday morning. When ever I'm in the short north or near osu campus I always try to stop in to Paradise Garage. Having spent most of my teens and twenties heavily involved in the bike industry I enjoy that nostalgia. With that said I do not miss how stuck-up some shops can treat people who just want to look around. Luckily PG is not that shop. Every time I've walked in I've been greeted by friendly staff who are just glad you stopped in. It's easy to lose track of time just looking around or occasionally getting lost in conversation with one of the staff. Hands down the best shop I've been to so far since moving to Ohio. read more

If I could give this place less than one star I would. I called ahead to ask if they could change the tire of my Puch Maxi and when I got to the store they turned around and said it was against store policy to do so, leaving me stranded with a flat tire. They were dismissive and unsympathetic. One of their employees even went so far as to berate me by saying I shouldn't have bought my bike and that it should just be a "hobby project". I was stuck on 1st & High for almost 3 hours before two of my coworkers, bless their souls, picked me and my bike up and drove me home. Paradise Garage only looks out for themselves, if they can't make money off of you they could care less about what happens. I would go out of my way to make sure no one I know ever gives them a dime. read more

I really appreciate Paradise Garage! There are various wonderful bike co-ops around town that are more hands-on, but when you need something done and would prefer that someone else just fix it for you, Paradise Garage is perfect. I walked in with a flat, and they were able to replace my tube and change my brake pads in just a matter of minutes. Plus, I was missing a part for a bike light that I bought over a year ago, but they went in the back and found the missing pieces (even though I hadn't bought the light there). I went in for a gravity stand, they sold me a used stand in a new box at full retail price. When I called to talk to them about it they said I'd have to come back in and exchange it but the new one would have to be ordered. On top of all of it, I live nearly an hour away so swinging by isn't exactly quick and easy. Not sure why they try to sell used stuff as if it's new.
