Their selection of native plants is much larger than any I've found at any nursery. My project involves creating a meadow-like environment that attracts wildlife. I bought several plants there a few years back and they are all thriving. After the first year, native plants require very little care, as they are uniquely adapted to our wet winters and dry summers. Prices are reasonable and the Tadpole people can answer almost any questions you may have about the plants they sell. Visits are by appointment only, so you get lots of one on one attention while making your selections. It is a little hard to find as it's back in the woods and feels like you're visiting someone's yard-- and maybe you are.

It's set right near the shore of Paradise Lake, amongst a beautifully mature forest, and adjacent to Bear Creek. They're usually only open by appointment but have some open days in the Spring and Fall. As a recent LA transplant, I hadn't found a nursery I've loved since Theodore Payne Nursery in Sun Valley, CA, but I am appeased and will keep coming back for as long as they will have me.

Most people usually don't get very excited about compost, but good compost is something I dream…read moreabout. I was very eager to try out their products having driven by the various locations around the city and noticing their fancy signs. Their web page is also very polished, which exudes professionalism, quality and sleek style. Most top soil places have lackluster web pages, but not these guys. I drove over at the crack of dawn and gleefully purchased a cubic yard of their illustrious Booster Blend, which was advertised as an 'Ideal blend of compost and dairy manure'. Further described as 'Locally and organic produced from garden prunings, food products, and vegetable trimmings', this sounded like the best thing I could add to my garden to support growing food for my family with the best of the best quality nutrients. It would boost my ego as I would feel great as a responsible and caring human for sourcing a local product that didn't contribute to excessive carbon emissions due to long distance transport, unlike those 'other' soil company conglomerates where you have no idea how far they source their products from. I couldn't wait to bring my load home to show off to my family, friends, neighbour's and random passerbys and flaunt my prized purchase, which would eventually revolutionize my garden to epic levels of nutrient dense and delicious fruits and veggies to eat. I carefully covered my trailer with a tarp to protect my fresh pile of compost and manure for the journey home. Upon returning home after a perilous journey with my tarp flapping in the wind the entire way home, I was ready to get shovelling. However to my surprise, I noticed that this booster blend had an innovative sparkly effect with a rich spectrum of colors that I've never seen before in compost from other soil companies. With closer inspection, that's when I noticed that it was packed with a special unique blend of booster particles consisting of plastic bits, shredded shopping bags, chewing gum, metal and glass shards. While the price was good, the time cost of having to pick out the bits, made this purchase a lasting and memorable experience (and not in a good way). No epic stories of heroism for me. No boosted ego, just a bruised ego.

I misjudged how much dirt a cubic yard was, so I ordered too little. I called the company and expressed my disappointment that the dirt we bought was barely enough to finish even half our projects. My fault, totally. The gentleman I spoke to brought another load! I forgot his name, I'm sorry!! I am SO happy. This dirt is full of compost and will make my veggies very happy. Thank you Cedar Grove! You've earned a lifetime customer!

Terrible experience from start to finish. Avoid this business…read more 1. Delivery Issues & Poor Communication: I contractually paid Nursery Trees a total of $2,474.30 for 5 arborvitae trees and professional installation, expecting premium quality. Instead, my experience was a disaster. I visited the nursery to hand-select my trees and confirmed details via email. On delivery day, the crew brought trees that were only 7.5 to 8 feet tall--far shorter than agreed upon. The foreman admitted he was never told which trees to pick and that nothing was marked. This initial trip and all prior communications were a complete waste of time. 2. Negligent Planting Practices: Weeks later, the second delivery arrived with the correct height. However, during excavation, I warned the foreman (Manuel) that the holes were too shallow. He ignored my feedback and planted all 5 trees with their root balls sticking 6 to 8 inches above the ground. When I showed him my existing, properly flush arborvitaes, he claimed my healthy, established trees were the ones planted incorrectly. 3. Property Damage & Incompetence: In Fall 2025, my sprinkler winterization technician discovered a broken irrigation line shooting water between two of the new trees--direct damage from this company's excavation. I had to personally coordinate and pay for my irrigation company to fix the line while forcing this nursery to return, dig up the trees, and lower them properly. During this repair, the foreman (Manuel) showed zero professional knowledge. He repeatedly asked me basic questions on how to do his job, including how deep to plant them, which side should face front, and if it was "okay" to bump a tree directly against an adjacent root ball. 4. Failed Final Result: Within 24 hours of their "fix," two of the middle trees began leaning heavily and grew crooked. I notified the management (Zach), but I ultimately refused to let them back on my property. I had to hire an independent, competent local business to fix their mistakes. This company charges premium prices but utilizes untrained labor with zero professional standards. Save your time, money, and yard by going elsewhere.
