I just started going to paradise tanning a couple months ago. I wanted to start with the fact that all the other girls that have helped me out have been so nice. However, yesterday 5/27/26 I had a bad experience with possibly the manager who was a girl with long dark hair and gold nose jewelry who seemed to dismiss me when I was inquiring why they were closing early. She seemed annoyed to answer any of my questions and acted like I was bothering her when I was trying to clarify how long they would be closing early. This was inconvenient since it was 5:30pm and they are supposed to close at 7pm. I was not able to tan and she was very short, made no eye contact, and had very poor customer service skills. This was one of my favorite places to go have always loved thus place staff are amazing, but there's never a bet that I can tan on so for the last I would say year on and off the regular beds, which I love are always broken then I went in and I know I've been grandfathered into the new membership with a new owner, which was great, but I've had not being able to tan Every time I go in one of the beds are broken and then when I went in two weeks ago, they had none working the girl told me people keep putting lotion on them and ruined the beds and the owner is fed up, trying to replace them so they don't know if they're ever going to be up and running again I thought that was really sad your own business. Go to Tan. It's right up the street and is a way better run business. They have (slightly) better pricing there and they actually replace the bulbs. I literally cannot believe how many beds have A LOT of dead bulbs in them at Paradise. I had to tan 5x per week there to see literally any results. I'm also sour about Paradise because I got conflicting information about cancelling my membership. The front desk staff failed to inform me about the 2-weeks notice window when I asked them and I ended up having to pay for a month that I never used. Management sent me a slightly condescending email but didn't offer any way to fix the situation. Had I not been consistently frustrated with the bulb replacement issue here, I wouldn't be leaving this review. But that coupled with their shady cancellation practices has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Go to Tan Soquel! read more

I came in with a specific goal: prep my skin with a base tan before vacation to help prevent burning. I don't tan often, so I was intentional about starting early and seeking guidance. I spoke with Joe two weeks ahead of my trip, explained my timing and goals, and followed his suggested plan: start with a Level 1 bed, gradually increase time, and eventually move up in level. I purchased a week of tanning based on that conversation. Day one, I did 10 minutes as discussed. I was a little red that evening, but fine by morning. On day two, I returned for another 10 minutes -- until Joe informed me that the bulbs had just been changed. I specifically asked how that should affect my session time. I asked directly, "Should I just add a couple minutes?" His answer: yes. That was the advice I followed. I did 13 minutes. I felt fine at the time, but by evening, I was severely burned. I barely slept that night. The pain, heat, and itch were intense. The burn worsened over the following days, and then I peeled -- heavily -- for nearly a week. This is exactly what I was trying to avoid before vacation. I returned over a week later to speak with the manager, who told me the opposite of what Joe had advised: that time should be reduced when bulbs are new -- not increased. Because I was still peeling, she advised I not tan again before my trip. So now I'm leaving for vacation with damaged skin and no base tan -- not to mention having paid for a full week of tanning that I didn't use. I understand that people make mistakes, but when you work in an industry where your guidance directly affects people's skin and health, accuracy and accountability are non-negotiable. Unfortunately, that standard wasn't met here. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

What the hell is going on with this place???!! They closed (and didn't even tell their customers why!) like THREE MONTHS AGO in the middle of summer (when people need their tans!!) for "two weeks" and keep pushing back their reopening date but only here on yelp. Still no end in sight and even if they posted a date they will just change it again. They deactivated their website, instagram, disconnected their phone, and offer ZERO updates to customers! This is so unbelievably rude and inconsiderate. I get it, things don't go according to plan, family emergencies, whateverrr... just COMMUNICATE with your paying clients, Jesus Christ. I hope they offer something like a free month to their loyal clients that have been supporting them for years for all of this inconvenience and extremely unacceptable, inconsiderate behavior. My favorite tanning salon in Santa Cruz! I've been to a few here in town and have frequented several in the LA area, this is still my favorite salon out of all the one I've been to. They've got reasonably great prices, admittedly not as exuberant as some salons that have ridiculously high prices. It's a really nice, spacious and clean space with plenty of beds to pick from (lay down, stand up, Red Light Therapy etc). The staff is always present and really friendly, I've gone enough times that the ones who I interact with often usually know my name, what beds I prefer and how long I like to tan as soon as I step into the door. Paradise Tanning is incredibly clean and the management and gals that work there are very helpful and friendly, especially in choosing one of the variety of beds. I absolutely love this place! I've been coming here for years and I have to say I'm impressed with the new owners improvements. The entire atmosphere is better! They even have a little "hydration station" with different fruit infused water! I typically use the stand up bed because their bronzer bed has been down for a while but they got it back up and running and it's amazing! If you haven't tried it, you definitely should!! To the weirdo that took a picture of the staff and posted it in regards to the " mask mandate " ....hey lady !! Read the 100 plus peer reviewed studies that show masks DO NOT WORK against viruses. A virus is 1 micron , if it attaches to a water drop it's 61 microns......ready to follow the science .....the best medical grade mask has an opening of 80 microns. I am an avid tanner, I always pay for an unlimited membership, and Paradise is the best salon in this area, in my opinion. The staff is friendly and professional, and the beds are very effective, as they are well maintained with fresh bulbs. I came here after the last salon I went to was repeatedly closed during business hours, and the owner was rude and unaccommodating, not even apologizing that I'd paid $93 in a month to tan, and then paid a babysitter to watch my kids while I tan, only to find the salon closed on a Saturday afternoon during normal business hours, on three separate dates. This salon is always open when it's supposed to be open, it is significantly less expensive than the previous salon, the staff is always great, and I have found that I tan faster at this salon, and need fewer tanning sessions to maintain my glow, I believe because the beds are well maintained. read more

The tanning beds here are fine (used mostly for seasonal affective treatment) but the staff was always quite irritable and unfriendly and frequently rude. I learned that if you just sort of walk in and speak a bare minimum and do your thing and just leave without speaking to them at all or asking any questions at all then it's much less unpleasant, but if you're new to it and need a simple one line explanation of how to use the machine, you will get only grudging and unfriendly answers. read more

The owner of this place was so kind to me. I came in for a spray tan the day before my wedding and she helped me figure out the right level of "coconuts" aka how dark to go. She was so sweet and helpful and my tan came out perfect, not too dark and not orange. I'm genuinely so confused how this place has 4.5 stars. Perhaps the reviews are not from actual customers. Or maybe the girl working at the front desk is new. I had called inquiring about spray tans and she slammed the phone down on me. I thought maybe it was an accident so I called back and she was incredibly rude to me. All I asked were basic questions like what levels there are and if it was a machine, etc since I've never been there. Out of desperation since I had an event I walked in the next day and it was the girl that I spoke on the phone with. I had walked in a couple minutes past 6:30 (I didn't know they take their last spray tan before 6:30 since this was my first time there. I figured as long as I'm out before 7 it would be fine). She made it so awkward and uncomfortable. She was accusing me that I had called right before I got there (I didn't) and said quite a few uncomfortable comments. If the owner is reading this, it is the girl that worked there Wednesday and Thursday evening. You may want to check your phone recordings as I assume I'm not the only one. Also the spray tan is incredibly blotchy yellow orange. Never had a spray tan like this before. It looks so cheap. read more

I really like paradise tanning, Nan is very nice, however I am very frustrated, this is the second time I went to tan and found a sign on the door saying we're closing early(an hour early) that's great I drive from the Westside here and just purchased a week membership.
