I came in last Thursday for a spray tan before my wedding (Saturday) in Soquel. I'm originally from southern CA, but currently live in New England with much less sun exposure, and was looking to get a nice healthy glow for my wedding day. Coming from out of state, I had never been to this salon before but have done spray tanning (both booth and airbrush) numerous times in the past. After the technician finished spraying me, I mistakenly tried to put on a sports bra and running shorts (as I have done in the past after other spray tans), but this led to me rubbing off part of my tan and ruining it. I came out panicked that I had ruined my tan, and Ashley (I believe that was her name, she has red hair and is very sweet!) put me right at ease and had me go back into the room where she helped blend and re-spray the parts I had messed up. She also sold me one of the flowy dresses they keep in stock for folks like me who come in ill-prepared with after-tan clothing, and gave me a lot of tips for how to take care of my tan and keep it lasting evenly. She reassured me that even if I woke up the next morning and found any marks or unevenness that I could call and come back in for another touch up if needed - but I didn't end up needing it at all, the tan turned out *perfect* and I got numerous compliments on it from my friends and bridesmaids! It meant so much to me to have her go above and beyond, particularly within days of a wedding when stress levels are at an all-time high. If you book here, book with Ashley, you will not regret it. Beware!!!! VERY UNETHICAL business practices at Glimmer and Glows Santa Cruz location. Three-Day Window to cancel membership only in person?!? I was was told "we are unable to cancel your membership until May 29th-June 1st and it can only in person. You will also receive an additional $50 fee for canceling early." I called and told G&G over the phone, "I would like to cancel immediately, I see no value in waiting until this arbitrary window and there is nowhere on the signed contract that states I will have to pay $195 for three months + a cancelation fee of $50 for a total of, $ 245 for three months!" Crickets. I then reached out via email to the owners, Blayne and Sue, kindly asking to cancel ASAP. They responded saying, "there was no "fee," and my membership was canceled, and the person/s I spoke with were wrong." Thanks, guys! Wait, just kidding. The following month, four weeks after, I was charged another $65! Unreal! 4 months for a 3 month package. From lack of transparency, to arbitrary cancelation windows, and poor communication, I highly recommend going elsewhere for tanning. I am very disappointed, Glimmer and Glow!!!! read more

This limitation was never mentioned to me when I purchased the spray tan package and honestly I don't understand why this has an expiration date. I listened to the person who was supposed to help me talk on the phone with owner about scheduling and visiting her sister while it was 12 minutes past my appointment time. She knew I was there, I showed up early. I hope the owner would rather her help me then talk to her on the phone. Absolutely the best service ever! She got us in right away, and gave us the best spray tan. My friend used both the tanning bed and she then got a spray tan over. We are both wedding ready! I also forgot my wedding rings, and she called me right away, saved them in a little jewelry tote, and walked us to our car with an umbrella so our tans wouldn't be compromised. Tanning salons are good for more than just indoor tanning. I've picked up lotions that can be used outdoors, sunscreens and sunblock for the face, skin treatments for conditions like sunspots, and UV gel for teeth whitening. I was next door at Salon Samir getting my eyebrows shaped and with all of the sunny weather we've had lately, I wanted to come in here and take a look. This place is pretty unassuming from the outside, so I figured it'd be kind of cheesy and scuzzy like the other tanning salon in Santa Cruz. Turns out Glimmer and Glow is very nice inside and definitely more of a real salon and boutique than their competitor. I found beautiful artwork made by the owner, cute jewelry and accessories, really high quality lotions, and my UV gel. The owner was so incredibly nice. I opted to buy two of her art pieces for Valentine's. They're concrete casts of leaves that were painted and wall-mounted with glass test tubes to hold a flower or plant- in this case, a sprig of bamboo. My description doesn't really do them justice at all because they're really beautiful, so I'll post pictures. My aesthetician purchased a third for her new facial room next door. She let us walk outside with the pieces to see how the looked in the light and even take then next door to see which one best suited the room. Best part of all? They were only $20! I ended up keeping one for myself and everyone's noticed the addition to my decor and wants to know where I got it. I think I'll be buying more as presents soon and I'd love to have an art show with her work. read more

I just got a spray tan at Glimmer and Glow this morning and am SUPER impressed. Sue (I believe that she's also the owner?) was the spray tan technician and she was SO professional and pleasant. She did a fantastic job and seemed genuinely concerned that my tan turned out perfectly, Also, she didn't try to push any products (tan extenders, lotions, etc...) on me, which is my pet peeve at salons. My appointment started right on time, the salon was clean and the ambiance was well done and understated. The product she used, Infinity Sun, has little to no odor that I can pick up on and leaves a great bronze behind. I don't feel uber-sticky, either, which has definitely been an issue for me with past spray tans. Overall, I would DEFINITELY recommend getting a spray tan from Sue at Glimmer and Glow. A friend of mine had tried the red light therapy and encouraged me to check it out. I was skeptical but curious. I found this place was easy to find and centrally located, right off of Soquel Ave where Soquel and Water intersect. There is plenty of free parking. This place is new and stylish and the staff very knowledgeable and helpful. I was made to feel comfortable and at ease. I had a 12 minute session in the booth. The vibrating platform caught me by surprise - it was much more intense than I would have thought. One thing I didn't expect from the red light therapy was how I felt the rest of the day... very happy. If you suffer from depression, red light therapy may offer relief without the pills.... and fewer wrinkles! I would definitely encourage anyone to give it a try. read more

I just got back from this place and my tan looks really good! I found a $20 groupon this week and used it ASAP for an event I'm attending this weekend. Susan was really nice, helpful, and made me feel very comfortable as i stood butt naked in front of her (ha!). She gave my friends and I perfect instructions for tanning prep and aftercare. I will definitely be coming back the next time i need a spray tan. The salon also has a red-light booth and a really high quality/ strong tanning bed. They have tanning deals all throughout January, so get in there soon! -1 star because it was somewhat hard to find! I LOVE THIS PLACE! So, my white ass waited a couple visits until I decided to write a review. And as far as tanning goes, this is as good as it gets! I've gotten both an airbrush and UV tan from here and every time is a pleasant experience. The girl that works this place is SUPER informative and knows what she's doing. She also does the spray tanning which comes on like a deep, dark tan that doesn't look fake at all! The atmosphere's really cute and you can tell it's kept very clean. I have gone to Glimmer & Glow for 3 spray tans. I highly recommend them. I have to give sincere kudos to Alva for always being so sweet and kind. It is not always easy to get completely nude in front of a stranger while they are inches away with an airbrush BUT Alva is such a doll. Great tanning beds/ nice younger staff. Typically enjoyed every visit there. I give 3 stars because months after moving out of town, realized they had been charging me 50$ a month when the only deal i ever signed up for was a 3 month plan. (None is their plans are exactly 50$ either, not sure what i was charheWhen asking the owner why they kept my card on file or kept charging me when i never signed up for some kind of endless tanning deal, she was extremely rude, condescending, not helpful. Honestly it was really upsetting, i was so stressed because i had lost hundreds to this, and she treated me so poorly. Still i had to get a new debit card because of them. Small boutique tanning salon with high pressure beds- sweet staff, clean and affordable. Only down side is they only have 2 beds so sometimes there can be a bit of a wait. They have 2 locations now so you could tan on Sundays! Second year in a row tanning at this salon for a trip to Hawaii. Monthly unlimited is only $70- good deal.
