I walked in and was greeted promptly by a tall man, wearing a beanie at the time, I think he was named Rich. I asked him if he had any openings and he said yes, he takes walk-ins unlike some of the other barbers who are appointment only. Service was not very good. Good haircut. Nice shop. I booked a scissor cut and facial hair detail for today. Appointment at 12, got in the chair closer to 12:30, no problem. Again, good haircut, the barber was obviously skilled and knew what he was doing. Took about an hour and the haircut looks good. I was kind of surprised because he said I was all done, but I had not gotten my shave/facial hair detail. I brought it up and he said I didn't say anything about that. I was, "Uh, ok...? Thanks." I wasn't really sure what the deal was. I went back to the front desk where I was assisted by another barber. I brought up the issue about not having gotten my shave yet with this barber. I was under the impression that as I had paid for the service and specific professional online already, they would have been aware and noted it. I got email reminders and receipts specifically listing what I had paid for, so it seemed like of course they would know on their end. But I guess I was supposed to have said what kind of services I had bought when I sat down. Ok sure. The other barber went to check if I could be accommodated and I was eventually, after more than an hour of additional waiting at about 3:00 PM. I would have appreciated a partial refund since I had only gotten a scissor cut at that point, or even something like "Hey man, sorry about the wait, we'll credit your next appointment." I understand the shop is busy and there was confusion on both ends. But it seemed like no one really cared about how long I was waiting, to get the service that I had paid for. My brother turned me on to these guys and I will never go anywhere else as long as they are there and I am here. Music is good, conversation is great, and prices are great for the amount of time, effort and care is given. I go Riv who is a senior barber and obviously loves his profession. Rich (Japan town) did a good job on my hair. I was concerned mostly in the back due to my scar. He did exactly as we discussed. I can tell he was new, which is why I booked with him. Because i knew that he would take his time. The fade in the back was perfect. Only minus once star because he didn't fade my side burns to match with the sides. Next time I'll let him know. I've been going to paradox for about 7 months now consistently with my first ever visit about 2 years ago. I started at the midtown location and switched to the japantown one. I religiously get cut by Joshua pambid and have been working with him to get the perfect cut each time I come. I started with no idea what I wanted to do with my hair and now have an understanding about hair styles textures and headshapes that compliment each person. I would highly recommend paradox to anyone wanting to get a premium barbershop experience. I was looking for a quality haircut for a fancy party I was attending. Needless to say I was not disappointed! I was very happy with the way my hair turned out and it wasn't a prolonged haircut either. The barber who did my hair was named Joseph, or JJ as a nickname. Shout out to Cameron for a phenomenal hair cut shocker. Seriously out of this world. Being a young man with long hair it is very hard to find someone to do a nice proper haircut. From the perfectly shaved sides to the nice layer of finishing touch ups I knew it was the place I wanted to be.
