They offer a variety of unique empanada flavors, such as jackfruit and margherita, we enjoyed the empanada but felt the crust was thicker than desired. Thought it would be fun to try the empanadas that opened up in River Street Marketplace. We tried 3 of them. A chicken, a cheese blend and the margarita. L & N really liked the chicken. The margarita was extremely runny inside. The cheese blend I liked the best. The dough was very dry on the crust, almost powdery. Nice that they are baked and not fried. Friendly staff. You can sit at the open tables inside the area but no specific seating. If you needed something they would be ok but they weren't as good as the place we like in Mission Viejo. I would rather drive further, get ones we liked more and at a better price too. read more

Haha I tried Chicken, Chipotle chicken, spicy beef, beef, spinach & cheese, rajas con queso, and pumpkin. Enjoyed every single one. Favorite is chipotle chicken for me. They offer a vegan jackfruit empanada that was full flavored. The cheese and mushroom empanada was cheesy but not too much. The amount of filling is a good ratio to the thin crust. There are many varieties to choose from, meat and vegetarian. read more

Happened upon this place and giving it a 4 because the service was great and she was super friendly. We ordered the chicken, chipotle chicken, spicy beef, corn, and mushroom. The empanadas were okay- not the best we have had, a solid 3/5 for sure. There is plenty of outside seating and the area is beautiful. We liked the chicken best, but can say they all tasted good. I can't share how service or ambiance were because this was a good delivery review so I'm only focusing on the food. I know delivery can impact quality, but i don't think that should be an excuse for restaurants. If you offer delivery, you should assure that the quality remains high. The empanadas had a more "chalky" like dough that was far too close to a pie crust for my preference.The fillings didn't have much distinct flavor based on the stated ingredients but was more like a mush. I've had empanadas from at least 1/2 dozen different south OC locations and these went to the bottom of my list. I may try them again when going to River Street just to give them a chance, but for me, empanadas should be a food that can retain their quality despite being delivered. I did really like the spicy chimichuri sauce. I was so hoping for better! read more

We ordered about five different flavors and received a few of the wrong ones. They were pretty good, just very doughy, more like a pot pie. Couldn't really distinguish the flavors from each other, except the spinach one was overpowering. Took awhile for them to be ready and then had to go back and pick up the right ones after getting different flavors we didn't order. Fun idea, just not crave-able. read more

I really wanted to like this place but I just struggled with all of it. The staff was not helpful when I was ordering. It was my first time trying Parana and I had some questions and was looking for some recommendations but the girl who helped me didn't offer any advice or really any information at all. I appreciate that the empanadas are baked and not fried but both of the meat options were really lacking on the filling. The first 2 bites of either chicken or beef empanada was just bread and air. I got a spinach one as well which has a bit more filling but all 3 of them lacked flavor and seasoning. The shell was very dry and almost crumbly. I was really upset when I came to right a review and noticed some people had dipping sauces - that absolutely would have helped with the flavor profiles And further just exacerbates my frustration with how unhelpful the staff was. Being my first time I didn't know to all for any kind of sauce and to learn on top of that they are complimentary was very disheartening. I tried the Yerba mate latte and it was okay - my not cup of tea but I know plenty of people who love Yerba mate so I'm sure it's up to scratch. I did try one of their caramel filled cookies (I took it home, it didn't appreciate the drive) and it was alright. The caramel was really good but the cookie was very dry and crumbly. I went to the River Street grand opening and this was one of the only food stops with no line so it was very quick service but now I'm thinking it should have been a sign. There's no direct seating for this location but there's plenty of outdoor shared seating for the entire food court. read more

These are not good empanadas. The dough tastes like store-bought pie crust, and the fillings aren't much better. These taste like frozen food, and I'd be shocked to find out they weren't made off-site, frozen, and reheated at the storefront. The gal who helped me was nice and helpful, and River Street Marketplace as a whole is awesome. Otherwise, this would've been one star. read more

Recently my husband and I came across Paraná, located in San Juan Capistrano at River Street Marketplace. The store makes empanadas in Argentinian style, which we prefer since they are baked and not fried. We served them for our 4th of July party and everybody, including our South American friends and family, loved them. There are a variety of different fillings available: beef, margherita, chipotle chicken, five cheeses, etc... We had just 3 flavors: chicken, mushroom and spinach, and all of them were packed with flavorful fillings and delicious. Chimichurri and white garlic sauces were nice additions. They also have very tasty cookies filled with dulce de leche. The service was also excellent as we had emailed the owner a couple of questions to which she promptly replied at 10 pm. I cannot say enough good things about my experience. The empanadas were simply delicious. But my greatest satisfaction came from my experience with Yadira. She was kind, knowledgeable, and patient with me while I made my choices as this was my first time to the stand. Wanted to love these. We ordered a variety of meat and veggie empanadas. They were not very warm, and they weren't very flavorful. The crust was hard. The location is very cute. Although in the food court, the music was very loud which was not the fault or responsibility of the restaurant. There are lots of other choices to try next time. read more
