Wow, if you are looking for something different or some really good Brazilian food, this is the spot. Come and support local. We started out with the Aipim Com Carne-Seca and Risole de Fango (empanada). Both are excellent. The beef and grilled potatoes were fantastic and the empanadas were tasty, fried perfectly. As for the entrees, I ordered the chef special grilled fish with shrimp sauce. Really good. The other dish we ordered was the Moqueca with both fish and shrimp. Also another outstanding dish. Small family owned restaurant located in San Juan. This is unlike other Brazilian food I've had before yet I found it very enjoyable. The portions seem small but the food is flavorful. Brazilian food in San Juan! My favorite is definitely the cheese bread (pao de queijo) and my husband gets the picanha plate which is very solid, as well. The feijoada bites were interesting to try one time, but probably won't be going for those again. Definitely get the Brazilian soda, Guarana!! First of all, I think I should preface this by saying I'm someone with a super weak stomach, and every single time I leave this place with a full belly it goes down super well, and I feel good after. You can taste and feel the good quality. There's a good variety of foods and if you're a Brazilian looking for a childhood dish, you'll probably find it here. The food feels homemade, like it was cooked by your grandma with love. Notable: - Guarana is offered here, they have a machine in the back for it, and it's an incredible soda that's unfortunately not gonna be sold in California for much longer in the can. I highly reccomend asking for guarana and if they have any, orange to squeeze in the glass. -the guava cheesecake should not be missed out on. Not too sweet, perfect amount of guava flavor, as someone who's had a lot of cheesecake in their days this does it for me every time. Bolinhos de feijoada - delicious balls of black beans, meat, and kale very lightly fried, not at all greasy and super soft and delicious, cokes with a sweet jam base that you can add to taste. I've never had real Brazilian food minus Fogo de Chao but the flavors are on point here. I called for an order pickup (online ordering kept failing). It's a bit bizarre how early they close at 6 on Sundays but South County is a sleepy place. Takeout for 3 dishes is pricey but it should be enough food for 2-3 meals for me. I got the cheese bread. The texture is so fluffy and tapioca-y. The cheesy flavor is delicious. I've never tried this bread with guava jam--a very interesting combination. I also got the chicken empanadas and was blown away by the flavors. For my entree, I got the feijoada; a bit too salty but the meat is cooked so soft. To my surprise, the rice was supremely tasty (perhaps cooked with some oil) and delicious by itself. I don't understand the cassava flour but the greens are helpful for the salty stew. Small but very beautiful place. I went there on a Friday to watch the live Jazz, and they had guest singer, Jamie Shew. Amazing show! The food was has an interesting story. They have wonderful service, but the food took a long time to arrive. My dish, the "Moqueca", Brazilian classic. After a while, it felt like they only had one cook in the kitchen doing all the work! But the best pet was when my dished arrived: it was AMAZING! One of the best dishes I've had this year! It truly felt like this cook cooked the dish just for me?! We're San Juan locals who were highly anticipating the opening of Basil Brazil. My wife is Brasilian and we couldn't wait to have a local place to eat. Maybe we built it up too much in our own minds, but it is truly lackluster in all facets. The service was fine with mostly family and friends working there. The atmosphere is fine with place settings that fit better in a buffet spot. The food is good, but nothing truly special. The prices are high which is disappointing. We were most excited for Feijoada. The version they served was light on meat, had lots of flavor but wasn't really hot...between hot and lukewarm. I've always been able to get churrascaria and feijoada when I returned to the US but never Bahia cuisine, until this meal. This is the first time in the US I've dined at a Brazilian restaurant that served this cuisine. Our meal was delicious! My wife had the grilled fish with shrimp sauce; my son the Bobo de Camarao, shrimp served in yuca cream with white rice and farofa; and I had the moqueca, a fish stew with coconut milk, bell peppers, onion and tomato served with white rice and farofa, which is toasted cassava. All three meals were delicious, authentic --- and a one of a kind experience to get a kind of Brazilian cuisine that you really can't find outside of Brazil. The fish and shrimp in all of the dishes was very fresh. For dessert, we shared a delicious coconut and rice dish. The waitress was very warm and friendly and did a great job explaining the dishes. The moment we walked in, we knew we came to the right place. We were greeted warmly and there was wonderful live music playing. Although we didn't have a reservation, they were able to seat us immediately and were very attentive to our needs. We have never dined at a Brazilian restaurant before but are hosting an exchange student from Brazil and wanted to experience food from her region together. She made some suggestions and we ordered accordingly. The food did not disappoint! It was fantastic and rated two thumbs up from our Brazilian family member.
