I read great reviews about the traditional Mexican food, but I am vegan so I wasn't sure it would work.... Well, I am thrilled to say that they make an excellent vegan burrito with rice, whole beans, lettuce, tomato, cilantro, onion, avocado, cabbage (I skipped the cheese), and they have avocado salsa. It was huge and delicious and homemade. The woman behind the counter makes the food and assured me there was no animal broth or ingredients in the rice nor the whole beans (the refried beans are not vegetarian/vegan). Buena Vista Market checking this place out for the second time! Friendly staff, isles are organized and it's easy to know where things are at. They do need plastic or paper bags by the dry spices bc I needed to purchase some dry Chiles Rojos for a tamale sauce tonight and there was nothing to place them on or weight the product. They have the best cabeza tacos! Very authentic flavors and the salsa is homemade and spicy! If you LOVE spicy, ask for the salsa de siete (salsa made with chilies and oil) they don't have it all the time, but man does it have a kick!!! Also the carnitas with cueritos are amazing! Good service as well, they always welcome us with a smile. Pro tip: they usually mount on the meat so I make 2 tacos out of one! read more

Inside the market towards the back, you will find the spot where yummy tacos and burritos are made. I have enjoyed all the meats that we have tried so far. Probably the Carnitas are my favorite. Regardless, everything has been flavorfully delicioso!! Have yet to be disappointed. There are a few tables with chairs to sit at inside the market. This is definitely not fine dining. Prices are reasonable for this area. Cannot tell you anything about the rest of the market. Each time we visit, we head straight to the hot food! They truly are a hidden gem in Dana Point. Very friendly and thoughtful staff serving a delicious chicken soup inside the market! If you are staying at a hotel by the beach, go for a walk to try a cup of comforting soup here! I asked for some tortilla chips to perfect the soup, and the lady gave me big crispy corn tortillas as well as freshly chopped cilantro and onions. Although I had to walk 15 min to get back to my hotel room, the soup was still so warm when I opened the soup cup. I was really happy enjoying the ocean view from my room with this tasty chicken tortilla soup. Highly recommend doing this!! read more

This market is little but it attracts big crowds of customers buying groceries and made to order food. We timed our visit to beat the lunch crowd that we witnessed a few days ago, atleast 12 people deep. Food portions are large and the carnitas torta was outstanding! Looking forward to trying their chicken molé before we leave DP. We also picked up some fresh veggies and chops for a reasonable price compared to your normal grocery store chain. OHMIGOSH the food here is amazing. I only wish this cook well and hope he opens a bigger restaurant. This place is tucked away in a Mexican grocery store, but is well worth the trip - the tacos are amazing and authentic: corn torrillas, meat, onion, authentic salsa and cilantro. The carnitas tacos was my favorite and just had the best flavor I have ever tasted anywhere ever. I wish I lived next to this place, but alas I'm a state away... One tip: don't use their bathroom. We drop by Buena Vista Market for hot food around once a month. The place is a gem in Dana Point. We typically purchase their quesadillas (which are huge) with chicken and carne asada. We recently had guests and wanted to have a taco night so we purchased their cooked meat by the pound ($8-10 per lb) which was an excellent value. We grabbed a pound of carne asada, chicken, and carnitas. All were fresh and rich with flavor. They also give you salsa, chopped onions, and parsley to take home. The shopkeeper/owner was extremely rude to me and my family when we came in to look. We had never been in before and just wanted to walk through. He got mad at me when I said I was just browsing. You just look in the tubs o' meat and tell the nice man what you want. But the tacos are just OK. I mean, they're cheap, which is nice, but the flavors are muted. We got a few different kinds of pollo (despite ordering carnitas), al pastor, carne asada, and cueritos. They came with green salsa and some limes. Without the additions, the tacos were dry.
