I am very disappointed with my experience at Paris Beauty College. This was my first time visiting, and I was really looking forward to getting baby highlights done all over my hair. I have had baby highlights done before, and I have never had such an awful experience in my life. Unfortunately, the results looked almost exactly the same as my original color and even appeared darker in some areas. What made the experience more frustrating was that the instructor did not agree or acknowledge that the result was not what I had requested. As a customer, it's disappointing when your concerns are not taken seriously. I paid $120, and like everyone else, I work hard for my money. Now I have to go somewhere else and spend more to get this fixed. I truly had hoped to become a regular client here, but after this experience, I would not recommend this place to others. read more

I've been going to the Paris Beauty College for years now and have always been happy with my student cuts for a very reasonable price. Today I came for a more complex project, which was to fix a bad haircut (from a fancy salon in San Francisco that rhymes with la vida). The student today, Caren, listened carefully to what the issue was. We discussed options, she washed my hair and then I spent a wonderful hour talking with her while watching her giving me the coolest haircut - French Bob/ Wolf Cut/ 60's flip. My girlfriend and I went here last weekend for hair cuts, manicure and pedicure. The prices are definitely right for the hair cuts (currently $10) and the mani/pedi is currently only $30. We were both satisfied with the services we received. I only got a hair cut and appreciated how much time my stylist spent with me. My girlfriend got an amazing pedicure - always pretty in pink. I've been coming to for over 10 years. They are (beautician/ teachers) are so professional and know what they're doing. The students are young. Some older they all are so nice. I have never had a bad touchup and/or haircut I.e., with all of the services they provide. I've always been extremely happy. I am totally convinced that they are the best. I keep coming back. I don't understand why anybody would want to pay a high price for the same services. I will keep coming back. I came here for hair color (first time) and they were really nice and patient with me to explain about the hair coloring as it was my first time dyeing my hair. They were also very accommodating and kind to take me in to correct the hair color second time as I changed my mind about the first hair color.I will be a regular customer for them henceforth. You will truly regret attending this school, it's not worth your hard earned money , energy , time , or mental health! This place will destroy you in ways you wouldn't expect or ever imagine! These Cosmo & nail teachers + owner could care less about you, & your education! Might I add the education you're paying to receive, this school is not free but the teacher act like it is! This is my second time at Paris Beauty school, I came here in 2018 for my esthetician license, passed state board at my first attempt, now I am back doing cosmetology. I had the privilege of knowing another school in the Bay Area and I can't compare them with Paris (they were so disorganized), Paris may not be perfect but here I can say that they look at me and understand my needs, even working with me around my personal life schedule. My child got two French braids 5.00 a piece. They looked fine. the part was straight professional looking. I got off work early around noon and called to see if they had any availability for a haircut and the receptionist scheduled me for 3:30. I showed up 15 minutes early to my appointment, and the person who was supposed to cut my hair was apparently nowhere to be found (do the staff/students not clock in or accounted for??). I was stressed, but luckily there was a student available who agreed to do my haircut. Dom was super sweet, quick, and attentive. She made sure she knew exactly how I wanted my hair cut. I unfortunately had a very bad experience at this beauty "college" and would definitely NOT recommend coming here and wish that 0 stars was an option. I came in for an updo for an event I was attending. What I walked out with was what looked like a birds nest, completely matted with so much hair spray it looked like someone had spit on my hair. My hair didn't even last the 20 minute drive going back home and was already coming out when I showed my family. An hour into my hair being "done", I had to pull it down as there was absolutely no saving it. What a complete waste of my time and money! The most disappointing thing about my experience was it was the instructor, Betty, that did the entire hairstyle. The student, who I will call S (so as not to damage her reputation as she is starting out) barely touched my hair. I cannot believe that students are paying their hard earned money to this institution and are not even learning anything, let alone instructors like Betty are incompetent and producing such horrible hairstyles like what I was given. I requested a full refund of services, something this place does not do. Instead, they offer you to come back with a credit (which is not a credit of the full amount you paid mind you). As if I would want to endure going through something awful again by coming back here! If you decide to go here for any services, do not say you were not warned. I'm a recent graduate of the esthetician program and I can't say enough good things about Paris and the teachers. I just adore Ms. Karen and Ms. Debi. They are fair, respectful, knowledgeable, and a joy to be around. They prepare you for your final exam with the board. I passed the written exam on my first try (I'm a horrible test taker). I was in and out of the test center in 15 minutes. I couldn't believe it. I had to call, email, and go in several times before I could get information about registering for classes. If you are really interested, don't give up. Just keep calling. It's all worth it in the end. read more

I went to cosmetology school here. My first few days I was impressed by all I learned from the instructor Barbara. Unfortunately, Barbara got in a car accident and was no longer giving lectures. The schooling was missing something... more grounded schooling. I completed the aesthetician course and passed the state bar. However, I feel like I missed the proper guidance that Barbara gave. I will start off to say that I gave this place a chance despite all of the negative reviews and I feel that we had an ok first experience. I came here a few months ago, and brought my son here for a perm appointment. We finished the appointment and once we were home, his hair was straight. I called right away and they scheduled us to come back later that week. So that was kind of the first let down that we went there and ended up needing to come back. The next time, we had the instructor who did his perm over and it turned out how he wanted it. So, fast forward to last week, I called to make another appointment for him and they asked me what time works. I knew that I wanted a morning appointment between 10-12, so I made the appointment for 10am. Fast forward to today, and we rushed to make it to his 10 o'clock appointment, only to get there and be told that "his appointment was actually at 9:45, and we have a 15 minute late policy" I was seriously thrown because I KNOW for a fact that I made the appointment for 10am, because I wouldn't have been able to do a 9:30 or 9:45 time. Look, I'm ok with being told that someone wrote it down as one thing and told me differently, but to literally waste my time, the time it took me to travel there on the gas I barely had, and then make it look like it was MY fault and make it look like I was late, when I knew that our appointment was at 10, that really didn't make me trust them. I've been an instructor here at Paris for the last four years. It saddens me to read some of the reviews. I was a student at Paris Beauty College myself 24 yrs ago. I have been in a salon since and have run a successful small business for more than 20 yrs. I will tell you that if you are interested in a career in the beauty industry Paris is the place for you. We have a wonderful team of caring individuals who all have a huge passion for teaching. Great curriculum, and lots of people who truly just want you to succeed I hope that people can understand that when you come to a beauty school you are helping that individual student learn and grow into a better hairstylist, manicurist or esthetician. I've tried the service from students on : Makeup - five stars Hairdo - three stars Hot Stone back treatment - one star, dont waste your time and money, all they do just put some hot stones on your back and moving it around. I would not recommend you get a perm there. Don't know about their other services. I understand why you pay before the service. I don't know if the girl had ever actually done perm on real person? She was never supervised or checked on. Is this really a school? The roll job looked okay, but I don't think she put the the solution on right and never used spray bottle while rolling to get end pieces in. when you neutralize you should towel blot the hair before doing that and get it on each curler. My hair had no curl and was very damaged. i had to immediately get a hair cut somewhere else. i would not try any other services here; since I came out looking so awful. I had an appointment to get my hair done but they said they don't have time to do it and they rescheduled it for another day, but again on that day they said they don't have enough time to do it, when I asked for refund they say no!! I have been going to this beauty college for well over a decade. Yesterday, I made an appointment for a full highlight for today at 10am. I arrive today and they said I wasn't even in the system but then proceeded to say that my appointment was actually for the next day at 9:30. Needless to say they moved my appointment without my knowledge. I can't drive and the schedule change in my opinion is not only inconvenient for me, but completely unprofessional. I went in there to straighten my hair. For context, I have a 4C hair that has never been straightened before so pretty pretty natural. I walked in and immediately, the head instructor there touches my hair and that's when the drama started. She mentioned many times that my hair was so coarse, turns to two of the students there "look at this .... I am going to give you this challenge" . She kept going " so coarse ... put a lot of conditioner , it is so coarse" . She kept talking while I stand in the middle of the room feeling like an alien. I decided this was too much for me and was going to come back the next day to straighten my hair. A very sweet and kind lady helped me with my hair the next day. When the same boss got she saw me and mentioned that my hair was like a "brillo pad" but now looks great. I was shocked because my hair was neither unkept nor dirty, just natural, so I didn't understand the constant insult. read more

I have been coming here for a few years for skincare services. I have done the European facial, micro-current facial, microdermabrasion, and the light treatment. I recently had an appointment with Karissa for a European facial, extractions and light treatment. She did a great job and was friendly. If you are looking for affordable skincare services and do not require a private relaxing ambiance, then this is the place to go. My only recommendation would be for employees and students to refrain from having personal conversations in the room next to the spa treatment room, as you can hear them very clearly. Do not go here. It took 3 different people to do my hair and I still wasn't satisfied. The first technician washed hair and blow dried my hair then went to straighten it while still wet. After I complained, they switched her out with someone else. Due to time, the second technician rushed and did the best she could. Then a third technician came in and tried to give me a touch up and get it more straight. By the way, management or at least the manager that I met did not handle the situation well. I'm a former student and I'd like to share my opinion as both a student and as a consumer. If you are serious about a career in the beauty industry and you are willing to put in work, this is a great place to start. I truly enjoyed my time at Paris, the staff and students are friendly and will support you 100%. If you have a busy schedule, they have a night program or you can attend part time. That seems to be a popular option for people with jobs or children. If your budget is tight, they can help you figure out an affordable monthly option and they do in house financing. The program is very hands on. Every day you'll get experience either working on mannequins or clients. They have THE BEST state board training program and you have the option to take the class more than once if necessary. My favorite thing about the program is how well connected they are to some great salons in the Bay Area. They have an optional "externship" portion of the program where you can work at a salon for extra credit. I chose to do the externship at one of their listed salons and I now have my dream job with them! The only negative comment I have regarding the program has nothing to do with the staff or students, it's the clientele. There are some really wonderful people you'll get to work with, and then there are the other ones. The other ones don't seem to understand that this is a school where students are learning to work with the public and may be performing services on a live client for the very first time. They can be very judgmental and rude, and it can really hurt your confidence when you have someone speak to you the way some of them do. The staff does a great job of handling these other ones, and the reality is these other ones exist in salons everywhere. So if you can handle these rude, entitled people at Paris then you can handle ANYTHING! I still receive services from students at Paris, so as a consumer my advice to you is this: Bring a photo of what you'd like, be patient, be kind, and you'll be surprised what these young people can do. Also be open to the possibility that what you want might not be feasible in one session. Understanding, good communication, and words of encouragement go a long way here. These are students, they are learning. You are receiving services at a discounted rate for that reason. Going on yelp to complain about a bad haircut you got from a student for $8 is ridiculous. If you're unhappy with a service you received you can let a staff member know and they'll do their best to make it right. I'm proud of the students at Paris and I'm always impressed by their work. So here we are at Paris Beauty College, having driven from Antioch for an appointment my husband made the day before. It was supposed to be a small Valentine's Day treat for ourselves -- a haircut and manicure for him, a mani-pedi for me. But one student who apparently has not learned responsibility decided to blow off the job today and because she didn't bother to call in there was no one available to take over when we arrived. Hubby still got the haircut (which the manager kindly comped), but neither of us received any TLC for the nails. So the place re-opened for skin-care services after the county order and is right back to its old antiques. My facial was canceled in less than 2 hrs before its time by a v-mail in an "I-dont-feel-like-working" non-apologetic tone. It's surprising they even had my appointment recorded. In the past years, I'd call a couple of times to ask if my appointment was still in their calendar. I had situations when they couldn't even find it, and once they made it on a Sunday when they're closed! That's instead of a business calling customers to remind them about appointments... I totally agree with the earlier reviews - this place has no ethics, no professionalism, no customer appreciation. They had only one advantage - low prices, but that's changing now. I noticed some businesses in the area now have prices very close to PBC and better reviews. Doesn't make sense to waste time and nerves with them no more. I once witnessed an instructor working the front desk. She was visibly high, hyper-active, charging wrong amounts and blaming the customers for her own mistakes. Had a European facial with Meg and she was so nice and very kind. She did a good job with listening to my concerns for my skin and walking me through what the steps she was going to take and why. I currently am in PBC, and have about 500 hours out of 1600 that I need. Maybe the ciriculum and rules have changed since the last review, but we learn a lot more about nail education, including a whole bunch of demos. The skin care isn't too intense, but cosmetology courses MAINLY focus on hair. I've heard others tell me they went over skin in two days from seperate schools. We are also now allowed to use product on our dollheads, as long as we purchase it ourselves. Students are also required to pedicures at any school you go to. Hopefully I cleared a few things up and refreshed the review? Personally, I love coming to school. I love what I do, so that could also help me. But the instructors for the most part are more than helpful, and we always have more than enough education than we need. I will say, that it won't be just thrown in your face, you have to look for it, but it is always there. Since there are only four cosmo instructors, you can't depend on them for all of your learning. read more

I was told by the owner this week that when the student poured perm solution all over me and stained my leather bag that it was my fault. Huge puddles of water in the sink area, Instructor did not check perm on the way out. The owner is rude and needs to be taken to small claims court. read more
