I really wish that I had read these reviews before coming in here! My goodness, it is actually unfathomable that a doctor and business owner would respond to patients so unprofessionally! I mean it actually looks like an angry child got a hold of the computer! Please read my review and these other reviews before deciding if doctor Bazan is the person that you would want dealing with your vision. My appointment began with a series of tests that I sat down and had to get back up to redo 3 times because they said they were captured incorrectly (unprofessional) Next, I was greeted by Dr Justin Bazan. I come from a family of doctors and professionals so I know everything about what makes a good doctor and a good practice owner. Good doctors are professional, compassionate, thorough, caring and humble. Dr Justin Bazan is by far the most unprofessional doctor I have ever come into contact with in my life. First, he was not compassionate. He began the visit by sitting me down and telling me that I could have a very major issue in my eye that could cause serious damage and scaring me to the point where I was almost crying for about 15 minutes... to then tell me that he is 99% sure it is nothing. I have never heard of a doctor to try to intentionally scare a patient like that. I mean he actually looked me in the eyes and took great pleasure in worrying and scaring me. When I asked why he did that he responded "I just want to you to take me seriously" Secondly he was not thorough. I was getting tested for a contact prescription. He said that the brand I have been using for 10 years was not good enough and made me try daily contacts which are 4x the price of my two week contacts. I understand that as a business owner he wants to sell the most expensive option but I also understand that as a doctor you need to present all of the brands and options. Thirdly he was not professional or caring. He actually raised his voice at me to the point where it was a yell and spoke condescendingly to me when i asked him what options I had for contacts. I said I didn't like the ones he gave me because they bother my eyes. He said "you will get used to them" I said I would like to see the other options and he responded with "this is the only option for your eyes" He then withheld my prescription for contacts and glasses and told me I need to come back in a month for a follow up appointment to decide if I like the brand of contacts that I never wanted in the first place. read more

This business really stands apart from any other. Handsdown, it's the best clinical AND customer service experience I've known. Here's my story: I met with Dr. Bazan for an eye exam months ago. I've had amblyopia my whole life (the kind that doesn't result in lazy eye, but is just bad vision in one eye). I thought that it was just something I would need to live with since it hadn't been corrected early enough as a child. Dr. Bazan changed that. He let me know there IS a way to correct it (yes, it will take work but so is life!) and arranged everything so that I went to the Eye Center of NY to meet with the faculty and get entered into an advanced program of therapy. He is truly a wonderful man who really cares about his patients. Every time I've come in since, he shows the most wonderful, professional warmth. Then, recently, I went in for a 2nd visit. I had a pair of sunglasses that I wasn't sure of the level of UV protection. Dr. Bazan sent them to his lab for free to check. Unfortunately, they lost my glasses. So, Dr. Bazan's staff negotiated with them to give me a free new pair of sunglasses as replacement. When the order came back, the staff even threw in a couple of starbucks gift cards, eyeglasses cleanser, etc. I don't usually "love" businesses. But this one... I love them! So, I feel like a bit of a hater because nearly everyone else on Yelp seems to have fallen madly in love with PSE. I will say that many of their comments are true - great customer service when you arrive, Dr. Bazan is extremely courteous (he even gave me and my boyfriend Starbucks gift cards for keeping us waiting for 30 minutes), great eyeglass fitting, etc. HOWEVER. I experienced several issues post-exam when I was purchasing my glasses and subsequently my contact lenses. First of all, my frames were chipped. Of course, I noticed this after I got home and I was too lazy to go back and say something about it because it was relatively minor. I know, shame on me, I can't really complain - but, check your purchase before you walk out of the office. Two - I felt extremely pressured to purchase contact lenses from PSE, even though I made it clear that I did not have the ability to pay hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket at that given moment for contacts. They promised me that they would e-mail me my prescription so I could try to find contacts elsewhere. They didn't, and honestly, how many times can you call the same place asking for the same thing before you are beaten down and just throw in the towel? So, I caved and decided to buy my contacts from them, and this is where it really goes downhill. First, they mis-quoted me a price over the phone, so I got quite a bit of a shock when I saw the charge on my credit card bill. They did not provide me (as they said they would) with my rebate and receipts when I received my contacts. I had to wait over a week to get this. Third, the receipt that they provided me was incomplete, saying that I had only purchased 4 boxes of contacts when I had in fact purchased 8 (and been charged as such). All these issues slowed down the process of getting the rebate that they (again) promised would help alleviate the cost of the full years supply. I cannot tell you the number of times that I've had to call PSE to try to get these issues resolved, and frankly I'm so tired of it that I will be switching eye care providers when the time comes for another exam. I think at the very foundational level, a doctor's office should be able to fulfill basic patient needs to a satisfactory level without having to be badgered by said patient. I would rather have a smooth overall experience than the bells and whistles. REVISION: Originally my review was only 2 stars based on the above details, but Dr. Bazan immediately e-mailed me and took many steps (above and beyond) to make sure that I was taken care of. I've always liked coming in for my eye exam, returning to pick out glasses, pickiing up contacts, hanging out on the couches, eating popcorn, drinking green tea, slupring on my ring pop, bantering with the staff. It's the most pleasant eye exam experience I've had...and my poor blind eyes have been subject to a TON of eye exams. No puffy air, every step explained, no condescending attitude (I'd rather be frank about my sub-par eye habits and get good, practical advice over feeling as though I should lie and hide my true habits and be scolded). Lots of help in picking out my actual frames, includng a webcam so you can also poll your friends for advice! Dr. Bazan hooked me up with a trial run of daily wear contacts for the full 2 weeks I'll be vacationing in SEAsia, instead of my normal 2x a month babies. I continue to highly recommend this joint to friends and yelpers alike! I don't have vision coverage, so have spent a ton here...and the current yelp deal was an awesome surprise when I was going online to make my appointment! read more

I was looking to get an eye exam in the Park Slope neighborhood, where I live, and was really looking forward to trying a local business (as opposed to a big Lens Crafters type chain). I've learned over years of experience to ask about every eye procedure, as it's really my right to know what I'm buying before I've committed to paying for it. Here, for instance, t took a little while to get out of obligation to have and pay for high-res images of the back of my eye which I chose not to have done. When settling up for my exam at the front desk I was told the total (of exam, and contact lenses) was somewhere around $86. I handed over my card, and signed an electronic screen in front of me which didn't have the total on it. Then I saw a few days later the charge to my card was $136. I am very upset about this. Someone looked at the screen, saw one number, and told me a different number. I called, but as you can see from other reviews, they don't pick up the phone. So I walked over, and the man there apologized and said he was factoring in the rebate that I could apply for through the contact lens manufacturer. Appreciate the apology, but I still don't think this is okay. I had to get back in touch 3 more times to get a copy of my prescriptions, and then the actual contact lenses ordered which - 7 weeks later - had never shown up. I really wanted to have a good experience there, it just didn't happen, will move on to try another eye office where I don't feel like I need to monitor every last detail to make sure it's done appropriately. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Honestly, the eye doctor is very condescending and rude. They do not have a working phone line where you can call. All correspondence is only through email. Even if you have a simple question you have to email the doctor. The first issue, we had to come to the office twice (a week apart) to get the prescription, In my opinion, everything could have been done in that first visit. The second issue we had with Dr. Bazan is that he prescribed my daughter a very strong RX for her very first eyeglasses, keep in mind my daughter is only five years old. We politely asked Dr. Bazan to reduce the prescription level a bit as we were concerned about progression and overprescribing. Starting her out at such a strong level is a common issue for young kids when it comes to eyeglasses, we want her to be comfortable wearing them. From our initial email request to Dr. Bazan, he became very defensive, aggressive, disregarded our concerns, condescending, and was flat-out rude. As a parent, it is our job to protect our children from doctors that don't want to work with parents, and that causes more harm than good. Dr Bazan said in the email and I quote "I don't care about your feelings and concerns" Coming here was a BIG waste of time. Please STAY FARRRRRR AWAY FROM THIS place. This Dr. has a flat out chip on his shoulder. We went to another Dr. and he gave us the proper prescription for her age and started her off at a lower level. I am appalled by the business practices at Park Slope Eye. They've recently sent a collection agency after me for services rendered 2 and a half years ago and for which they claim I never paid. But they waited 2 AND A HALF YEARS to ask for payment. The delay for payment would be bad enough if I actually owed it. But I'm convinced I don't. I bought contact lenses through them after having an eye exam. The eye exam was paid for by insurance. The lenses, they claim, were ordered by them and sent to my home at which payment was due. This is absurd. Who sends things COD anymore? Has any other patient here had lenses sent to them and paid after receipt? If I picked the lenses up at he shop how could they let me leave without payment? This problem could have been easily solved if their demand for payment was evenly remotely proximate to the date of service. But it was not. My records for 2010 are in storage and I'm unable to access them. Attempts to gain access to records online have been thwarted by limit on how far back the credit card companies archive such payment history. Email conversations with the doctor and others showed no recognition of the unacceptable delay in "payment overdue" demands or regret over putting me in the position of having to prove my innocence. None of their explanations of this transaction or their billing practices in general made sense. I suspect fraud but of course have no way to prove it. I have paid the bill as I'm in the midst of a mortgage application and don't want any blemish on my financial records. This would have been my only one. Why? BECAUSE I PAY MY BILLS. What makes this incident even more galling is that twice in the last week I have received erroneous Second Notice demands for payment of medical services received in the last few months. In both cases I had proof of payment at hand and could dispatch the problem. I will never again give Park Slope Eye my business and that's exactly what I tell my family friends. read more

A few good things about this place: 1) Your drivers license renewal requires an eye exam. Park Slope Eye is qualified to do that exam and electronically sends the results. 2) I've gotten very informed contact lens prescriptions and solution recommendations. read more

After poring through numerous reviews and searching for just the 'right' doctor, I decided to go with Park Slope Eye. I will be away for a year on a volunteer trip overseas, so it was important for me to go to someone who genuinely cared about the health of my eyes before I left since I don't know how accessible optometrists will be where I'm going. I've seen a few people in the past who were, for a lack of a better word, disappointing - both in their checkups and customer service. You get the complete opposite here. Dr. Bazan is informative, smart, and really knows what he's doing, explaining everything throughout the exam. I have a huge issue with putting anything in my eyes and was dreading the eye drops for dilation but he went out of his way to make me feel comfortable. I'm confident my new eye glass prescription will give me optimal vision. Mary's amazing. I have to commend her patience with my million questions about insurance and different lense options, even after I bought and paid for my glasses. I went with the 1st set of frames she chose for me. She has a great EYE *wink*. I did end up going way past my budget but thats only because I'm a frugal s.o.b. but it is definitely a true testament to how great they are because I'm a sucker for amazing customer service. It is true when people say it feels like they really love what they do, because it shows in their demeanor and approach with people. Need I say more? Fine. Here's a checklist: Knowledgeable Doctor - Check. Knowledgeable Optician - Check Accommodating - Check. Professional - Check. Friendly - Check. Funny - Check. Great Hours - Check. Snacks - Check. (I didn't have any while I was there but I sure wish I took some ringpops!) Eyewear - Great selection. **5.20.09 I'm beyond blown away by the service at this place. 5 stars? Pffff, they deserve 10! Unprofessional and unethical, possible HIPPA violation. They sent a mass email with all their clients in CC claiming overdue balance without any prior invoicing or other notification. When I checked in on it with Dr. Bazan, he sends me an invoice for a cancellation fee. This when I cancelled in person at the office and they did not mention any fee for the cancellation! He didn't even care that this happened and the fault was on their side, he simply threatened to send the invoice to a collection agency. The same happened with several of the clients that were mass emailed! I would stay far away from this place. read more

Dr.Bazan was very nice to me and explained my eye situation step by step; he even walked me to the other room and took pictures of my eye, Trust me I have seen a lot of doctors and have been to many other opticians, but this guy knows what he is oing. I have been using glasses since 7 years old. I am sure the bad reviews are legit but it's just so strange. I think Dr Bazan is very nice dude. Its so weird, to see so many bad reviews. Honestly there were no problems at all during the check but 3 stars because I had to wait 40 minutes for my appointment! At a busy day it is expected but really did piss me off to wait that long! We scheduled an appointment here for our 4 yo daughter on the recommendation of a friend. They are a fine medical provider. We appreciate you can schedule appointments online and email their office directly. And she loved Dr. Rima. For this, I'm giving them a 2-star review. However, they don't take many insurances - and found their website to be misleading. They write, "we are providers for the following: medical" and list many insurance companies. I misread it to mean they are providers for the vision plans underwritten by these medical insurance companies. In reality this means you can use these insurances for medical visits only (e.g., your eye falling out of its socket) not for an annual exam. We fully accept we could have done stronger due diligence on this before making an appointment. I'll say it again: our mistake. Upon learning they do not accept our insurance day of, we were asked to pay the copay and a $55 fee for the exam. Canceling the appointment day of costs $50 fee. Ok. They also charged us for a retinal scan ($39). Children's eyes are malleable and the Dr. couldn't get a good read on what my daughter's prescription would be. She asked us to reschedule so we could dilate. The second appointment cost $95 out of pocket - basically a re-do of the first. Then, it took 3 weeks to get my daughter's glasses even though they'd originally told us 1/2-2. They were also quite expensive - just over $700. And we were told we needed a follow-up appointment to make sure she got the script right. Shortly after, I realized I accidentally gave them the wrong insurance information (and again, I accept this being a mistake on our end - my husband switched jobs, insurance is confusing, etc.). When I contacted them to update, I was told I actually still owed $89 because my insurance is out of network. Something simply seemed very fishy. I've used many out of network providers who ask for money up front then use that as a credit against what the insurer pays. When asked, they said that what I paid was a separate invoice and not related. Also, since they knew day 1 that I was out of network, why was there an outstanding balance? Why did they even file the claim if they knew it'd be rejected? They do then have an elaborate way of finding you owe more than what is originally paid. When, after 3 emails asking, I learned our follow up visit would cost 126 dollars, so I immediately canceled. I didn't trust that follow-up would be our last visit. Two suggestions: 1. because young children often need dilation, just make that part of the first visit. book in the time. save busy parents two trips and the double billing. 2. Provide a clear price list at the desk for people who are out of network. Many of us are happy to use out of network providers but get weary when prices seem fluid. [$134 for visit #1, $95 for visit #2, $126 for visit #3 - all for refraction.] After the 2nd appointment I started reading reviews here - and am not surprised by my experience. I appreciate they have a business to run - but this experience was shady at best. read more

Dr. Bazan uses the latest technology to do 3D imaging of your eyeballs to determine the health of your eyes and to detect potential harms before they can become serious issues. After discussing ways to improve my vision, she sent me out to Yasmine. Yasmine assisted me with picking out frames. She was extremely helpful and patient. I went here for three years. On my last checkup I booked an appointment online, like I had the last couple years without a problem. After 4-5 appointment reminders via text and email I show up on time to find out that they no longer take my insurance. I was given two options, to pay almost $100 for my visit for out of network or pay a $50 no show fee for the appointment. After speaking with multiple employees about the problem no one could provide a better solution. So I paid $50 for an appointment i actually showed for. I expected more as a return patient. This place has obliviously gone downhill and cares more about saving a buck then helping someone who was trying to support a local place. read more

This is the worst place to go. This is a response the eye doctor gave in response to my husband and I trying to figure out the insurance for our daughter By Dr Brazan on my husbands Facebook page who by the way was not the eye doctor we were supposed to see - You refused to pay your co-pays that are set by your insurance company.It is your responsibility to know your copays before you get here. It blows my mind you would think it would be free just because you didn't realize you would have to pay. Absolutely ridiculous. This was not true. We wanted a basic eye exam and they were trying to charge us 55 dollars above our copay. I have two insurances and they were just trying to have us pay out of pocket. And to top it off the eye doctor I booked wasn't even him. How can he expect to work with children. My daughter was standing next to me as he starts yelling at me. He was Telling me I am wasting his time. Once again he was not the doctor who I had asked for. Then Charge me a cancellation fee of 50 when the doctor who was supposed to see us was not there. If you have kids I would steer far away from this place. She was so scared by the way he acted. And now never wants to go to an eye doctor again. read more

Honestly, there's a billion 4- and 5-star reviews of this place, so consider my experience the exception. I probably caught the wrong people on the wrong days. Still, my last experience ordering contact lenses was smooth, the staff who are helping me are professional, and really that's all I ask. As with any business, check out the place for yourself for a fair assessment. -SP --------------------------- Go elsewhere. I've had multiple experiences with Park Slope Eye -- eye exam/contact lens fitting/lens re-ordering and purchasing frames -- and never felt quite like they wanted my business. Honestly, it just feels like they care more about building a brand image than about running a vision care business. I had to unsubscribe myself from an email list they were blasting, promoting fashion parties and seemingly everything else besides vision-related. My eye exam was not with Dr. Bazan, and the woman seemed indifferent, and for some reason she didn't give me confidence that I was getting what I paid for (and as other have noted it's pricier compared to others). I also felt pressured to upsell to costlier services. When I was purchasing frames, I got okay service but not the best -- there were a few associates working, but all of them seemed busy on their laptops -- and again the final retail price seemed on the high side. Ordering contact lenses is a hassle. I call and no one picks up. I email and then it takes a few business days. At other shops, they always have my contact lenses in stock (it's a common prescription) -- OR if they don't, they always let me have a few spare lenses to tide me over. I started using 1-800-CONTACTS instead. Honestly, it's one incident that made me close the door. Before going on a vacation to Mexico, I noticed I was out of contacts. Crap! Shoulda ordered them earlier. My bad. But I thought I could get some sympathy - and a trial pair - from Park Slope Eye. Walked down to the store. Of course they didn't have my lenses in stock, so I paid for an order (at least a hundred bucks or more) and asked nicely for a loaner pair to tide me over while I went on vacation. They said they couldn't release it to me without the eye doctor's official permission. Ridiculous, since it was my prescription and previous eye shops have done this before. They made me wait in their lobby for nearly an hour while they tried every 15 minutes to get ahold of the doctor who was at a medical conference. Finally after confronting the woman, saying I was literally going to be late for a flight to Mexico and needed contacts for all manner of swimming, snorkeling, vacationing, what have you, did she go in the back room and give me a few spare pairs. But not without letting me know that she hated doing this. Thanks, Park Slope Eye! But I think I'll have to try elsewhere. You make me feel like my normal customer requests are such an inconvenience. read more

I would second Sara A.'s review: even in the 1.5 years that I have visited Park Slope Eye, I have noticed a dramatic decline in customer service. Once upon a time, Park Slope Eye was a welcoming place full of highly competent people. But, there has been a complete staff turnover: NONE of the helpful staffers who worked at Park Slope Eye are still there -- all have left for greener pastures. Even worse, the turnover extends to the eye doctors: I have yet to be examined by the same doctor. At the moment, Justin is the only eye doctor in the house, but at one time, there were two others. Where did they go? No one seems to know. In this (weak) economy, such high turnover can only be attributed to poor management or low pay. If Justin is such a great guy, why would all of his staffers be running for the doors, despite 9% unemployment? However, the problem with Park Slope Eye is more than just not recognizing anyone in your local business -- the turnover is so high that no one is being trained adequately. I can say this with a strong foundation: one employee somehow managed to scratch the lenses of my glasses so badly that they are _blurry_ from all of the scratches. Justin's response was basically a shrug of the shoulders and a promise to repair the glasses. But, despite promises of having new glasses within 48 hours, I am still without my glasses -- FIVE days later. Amazingly, my glasses seem to have fallen between the cracks. No one seems to know where my glasses are. So, if you want your glasses lost or damaged, then Park Slope Eye is the place to do it. But, you'll get some free candy and constant suggestions that you should write a Yelp review. So, Justin, I've taken my free candy and written my Yelp review -- what's your response? My advice: You'd be better of at Lenscrafters or ordering your glasses online. read more

I accompanied a family member to their appointment here recently and was appalled at the Doctor's pre & post interactions with them. I would never go to a Doctor this unprofessional and rude. I'm shocked by these 4 and 5 star reviews. If the highlight of your eye exam is getting offered tea and sunchips before you go in to the exam room, maybe you should be getting your head examined instead of your vision. The 'no phone' rule of this office is ludicrous. You're providing a medical service - you need to pick up your phone. If you do manage to get an email reply from one of the rotating frontdesk staff, it will likely contain a dozen excuses of why or how they've already messed something up. To my first booked appointment I received an email stating I 'couldn't have that', because the doctor wasn't in that day. Yet, three hours later, that day was still showing up as available on their online system. Then, when I finally did see the doctor and selected some glasses, it took THREE attempts to collect the glasses! Twice, I emailed to check what time they'd be open until that day and twice, for whatever reason, they decided to close early and never called/emailed me to say as much. I went to PS Eye because they do have a very interesting selection of frames and take my insurance, but it's not enough. There are plenty of places to get great frames in this neck of Brooklyn. I had an excellent experience @ Park Slope Eye and don't see a need to go anywhere else ever again. Dr. B was great: friendly, thorough, and quick (yet I didn't feel rushed). Yasmin helped me pick Frames and really I could not have done it without her. She made me feel comfortable, and guided me when I needed help - I really appreciated and trusted her feedback. I'm so indecisive but there was no pressure to make a decision. Only advice when I asked for it. This was perfect for me. I plan on bringing my kids here for a visit soon. Kid friendly! My wife also had a great experience. PS. They have awesome local art on the walls and a whole bunch of snacks (mmm coffee + chocolate covered biscotti)... Just wanted to hang out there. I had a poor experience at Park Slope Eye. Their staff is courteous, friendly, and eager to help. But they made a series of mistakes that resulted in an unnecessarily frustrating experience. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, nor would I return. 1. Poor doctor communication. I saw Dr. Katelyn Rogerson, who is not mentioned on their website. I am nearsighted. I went in because I had gotten my first pair of glasses five years ago; my vision had deteriorated since then; and now I had insurance. I explained all this to her, and she gave me a professional if slightly awkward exam. Based on the exam, she prescribed me a pair of computer glasses. These are glasses that focus your eyes on the few feet in front of you, and make anything beyond that very blurry. The problem was that she never explained this second factor to me, and since I was expecting a pair of glasses that I could use all the time, I was very confused when I got them home. To be clear, her diagnosis was accurate; the glasses have in fact helped. But the poor communication (1) led to unnecessary frustration and confusion and (2) caused me to buy an expensive pair of designer glasses that I can now never wear outside the house. I ended up having to buy a second pair (not from them!) to meet my original needs. 2. Bad follow-up from staff. When I tried to purchase this second pair of glasses, PSE gave me the wrong prescription. I phoned up to ask for my RX, and was--again, helpfully--emailed the PDF of it. But even though I explicitly asked if this RX was for computer use only, and was assured that it was not, I was given precisely the wrong RX. I ended up buying a second pair of the wrong glasses. Fortunately the other company, warbyparker.com (5 stars!), replaced them at no cost to me once I finally got the correct prescription from PSE. 3. Obtuse billing error. PSE charged the wrong insurance company for my claim, causing PSE to use a completely inaccurate formula to calculcate my costs. This would be forgiveable, except that I caught this error before it was processed, verbally informed them of the mistake, and physically handed them a printout of my insurance coverage (along with, naturally, my insurance cards). Even after seeing this, they informed me I was wrong. I wasn't. I figured this out for sure the hard way, when my insurance wouldn't reimburse me. Again to their credit, PSE quickly rectified the error after the fact. But there is utterly no reason why it should have been made in the first place. And, curiously, despite the radically different coverage formulas, the fees they charged my correct insurance company were almost exactly the same as they charged the wrong one--much to the surprise of my insurance company. Somehow a new fee was added to the second bill that brought it up to level with the first. Was this legit? Maybe, but already having paid, and being utterly exhausted from the experience, I didn't have it in me to challenge it. All told, a bad experience. Oh, and the kicker: that second pair of glasses I got turned out to be identical to the ones I got from PSE. But the price? $600 cheaper from the second company. read more

I realize that compared to the other reviews on here that mine is not the norm for this place. I went there with the highest of hopes, because my partner went there and had an amazing experience. Basically my reasons for giving it one star are these: 1. There is more than one front desk person that works here, but the one that "helped" me during my visits there was quite rude. I went back the next day to try on glasses and a different woman there was so nice. The one I dealt with made me feel stupid and annoying. 2. The exam was $179. An eye exam was almost $200, and they weren't doing anything but checking my vision and performing normal tests. Now, it was my mistake for thinking that because I am a student with no eye vision coverage and no salary (which I told them) they would drop the price to maybe $99. I take responsibility for that misconception. Their eye exams are $100 more than anywhere else I've been in the neighborhood. Even for Park Slope that's high. But my partner went there with issues that were beyond the scope of a normal visit, so his visit was free and therefore he really believed in this place, which is why I kept my appointment. 3. For glasses that would cost me $550 at the "most expensive place in Park Slope", they will cost me $850 at Park Slope Eye. So I guess the place that I have gone to is not the most expensive place. And I've gotten glasses at this other place and the quality is amazing - so why Park Slope Eye costs $300 more is a question worth asking. I tried on a pair of glasses at Park Slope Eye marked at $300 that I found for $131 online (with free shipping, no less). And finally a pair of glasses that cost $180 at the "most expensive place" cost $300 at Park Slope Eye. In conclusion, they are very nice there (minus that one person at the front desk). They offer drinks, candy and anything else for ultimate comfort. The doctors there are nice, knowledgable and interested in helping. I appreciate that - but not for $500 more total for an exam and glasses. I still can't afford this place no matter how nice they are! Unless you are rich, this is not the place for you. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Bazan for 8 years and could not recommend him more highly. He has guided me through a few eye concerns with skill, confidence, and an excellent bedside manner. The office is modern with advanced technology in house. One machine checks the health of the retina and the back of your eye without needing dilation (!), and, even better, captures the image. Dr. Bazan always talks me through the images and describes trends over time. For what it's worth (and in response to other comments)- I have never had an issue with payment or insurance. On a personal level, Dr. Bazan has visited my elementary school on a few Career Days to teach students about optometry and the structure of the eye. He's a good man and an excellent optometrist. This makes me laugh. By "pull this kind of crap," do you mean the fact that you tried to charge me out of pocket when I had insurance money left, or the fact that BOTH my prescriptions were wrong? Great Place for eye exam. State of the art equipment, grade A service and attention to detail.

This is simply the single worst business I have ever dealt with. I got one eye exam here in 2010 and continue to get emails and calls -- most recently today on Christmas Eve -- about confusion over my account, which was closed and paid out the same day as my exam almost three years ago. Also this business will not remove me from their email lists even though I have asked to be in unsubscribed multiple times. Once Bazan wrote me back personally and told me their lists were not spam!!! This is truly the definition of a nightmare business and I can't seem to get them out of my life!!! Don't make the same mistake as me. Avoid at all costs!!! (Also their services are grossly overpriced and the staff unhelpful. Most of the time when I'm partial to a revolution in thinking, it occurs in the technology world -- y'know, new process or new way of doing things that make something possible, or easier, or more intuitive where I didn't even know it was an option. I had that same feeling walking into Park Slope Eye -- actually, that's not true. I really had that experience before I ever stepped foot in the store. When I called to get an appointment, I found that they directed me to the website wherein all my communication with the office occurred before I introduced myself at my appointment time. Reminders, scheduling and telling Dr. Bazan what I needed all happened without me having to talk to a single human being. And for a guy that orders Domino's just because I can do it all online, this was a blessing, even if I didn't trust it. But I had no reason to doubt, as everything was set up perfectly when I arrived at the office, in what I think was the old Tasti-D spot on Union. But I got here, was offered a drink and popcorn while I waited, and was inquisitively chatted up based on my Red Bulls jersey I was wearing by not only the staff but the doctor, who all appeared to be genuinely interested in local soccer, not just humoring me. And when all my information was inputted, it connected seamlessly between the exam room and the front room meaning there were no duplicate tests or extraneous reports missing. In fact, Dr. Bazan, in between being overly descriptive about the tests he was running and why he was running (which was fantastic for someone like me who normally doesn't ask enough questions as to why things are happening) kept looking up things online in the exam room as we discussed them to answer questions that came up (specifically as to whether or not there is a famous Polish weightlifter with my last name). They found all of the extra discounts I could possibly save in purchasing new glasses (over $300 including insurance and a $100 checking in on the Yelp app bonus) and volunteered to replace the lenses in my current glasses that I didn't even purchase there (that ended up being more expensive than I wanted to spend). I booked my appointment here primarily because my insurance was accepted here and because I've seen how active Dr. Bazan has been in promoting his business on Yelp (where I first saw it). It's extremely misleading that this place has such a high rating. They don't respond to emails as promptly as promised, and they have an answering machine answer all of their calls, with no "press this number if you have an emergency" or "press this number if you'd like to speak with the doctor or the staff" buttons. Really? Cutting your customer off from human communication? Terrible way to do business. They claim to be email-obsessed, but 24 hours without a response? I am 80 times more email-obsessed than that. After seeing the unprofessional way the doctor responds to these Yelp reviews, I am inclined to avoid this place entirely. I like doctors who avoid being "The Cool Doctor" and instead just focus on being a professional one. read more

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Bazan and had no trouble booking an appointment--even on very short notice. The office was also very responsive; when I emailed to ask for some documents a couple of weeks after my appointment, Aaron sent them over to me within 15 minutes (at 6 PM, no less). read more

I've been going to Park Slope Eye and Dr. Bazan for three years now and every time I go I just marvel over how awesome everyone there is, what a good doctor Dr. Bazan is, and how helpful, friendly, and smart the whole team there is. I can't recommend them enough and would even push my Manhattan friends to make the trip into Brooklyn for this practice.
