After leaving eye exam, the rest went down hill. Glasses were never sent in a timely manner, always an excuse why they did not go out, also I had to send back glasses because progression was incorrect. Their accounting department is very predatory, without ever contacting me over a balance not covered by insurance, they gave my account for collection. I contacted them on Sept. 29th, 2020 over amount in question, never received reply from them and this morning, 10/29/20 I got alarming call from a collection agency. Erratic, unreliable business! These guys do not answer the phone-ever. They respond to emails and messages in a haphazard way. They fire doctors, cancel appointments-ugh. We went to them because my son was diagnosed with double vision and needed vision therapy. Even though he'd been examined, they insisted on a second (expensive) exam and charged a lot on top of insurance coverage. Then a few weeks later, we got an email from his doctor saying she'd been fired. Thy then cancelled all the scheduled services-by email! I'm trying to get refunds and of course NO ONE gets back to me. Ti we g by but the office was closed -- in the daytime. The whole thing seems SKETCHY. Stay away. read more

I really wanted to like this place, and I really wanted to support a smaller business. The situation that developed would take far too long to write, and would possibly be quite boring to the reader, but suffice it to say, I felt valued by the front desk person, but not by the doctor. The level of gaslighting and nonsense left me feeling like I'd made a terrible mistake in choosing this place. Long story short, the contacts and quite frankly the eyeglasses were just not the right prescription for me, but I was made to feel like it was me that just couldn't get used to them. Dr Bazan is the worst dr I have ever had. After being a patient for years he literally refused to see me anymore because I disagreed with the prescription he recommended for bi focal contacts ! His email to me was "it is you not me ". I would have laughed at the immaturity and unprofessionalism of this dr. ,if he hadn't been my primary opthomologist for so long making his behavior bordering on unethical. He literally refused to treat me as his patient because I disagreed with his prescription. I have also been to other opthomologists since and realized he upsells diagnostics not covered by insurance. I made an appointment at Park Slope Eye and was really looking forward to getting my eyes checked out. Rearranged my schedule so that I'd be able to make the appointment after receiving a confirmation email. When I arrived, they told me that my appointment didn't make it into the schedule and someone else was scheduled for that time. Hokey policies and manipulative pricing. They are a DMV registered vision test provider which Is the only reason I went. I show up for my appt but at first couldn't find my insurance info, so asked if I could reschedule. They said I'd be charged a cancellation fee. I said I'm not canceling I'm rescheduling, they said no difference. I said if I'm charged a cancellation fee I won't come back, they said "well then the cancellation fee will just go to collection and you'll have a credit issue." Bully tactics, basically leaving me no choice but to pay out of pocket. I say hold on let me make some calls, I find the insurance info so we're moving forward. Then they try to upsell me on this fancy machine for 3D retina scanning for an extra $39. I say no thanks but THEY TAKE THE PICTURES ANYWAY. Sorry doc I'm not defraying the cost of your fancy hardware. If you take the pictures use the pictures. If I say no then why are you taking the pictures? My insurance provides for a free pair of glasses every year. So which ones can I choose? Well turns out we don't offer any packages that would end up being free. Other providers do, but we don't. Sorry. The woman is smiling and shrugging as she tells me this. When I finally see the doc he reinforces the hard sell on the 3D retina scan, acting surprised when I opt for dilation, a 40 minute wait and temporary blindness for the rest of the day. I would avoid this place at all costs. There is a service person there (Aaron) who puts forth a rebate offer which becomes a hassle to get. When asked to submit a receipt for this to the rebate company, brand name and quantity were missing. I was denied the rebate and asked to resubmit the correct information. I asked Aaron to update my receipt. Not only was it not updated, but I received arrogant emails that I already had everything I needed. I am not one to slam stores in reviews but cannot stay silent in the face of utmost arrogance. I usually rate the process of getting my eyes checked only slightly above having my teeth pulled. I normally grit my teeth, walk in, get bored to death while waiting for my turn at that torture machine that puffs air straight into your eyeball. All that just to walk away a few hours later with the happy news that my eye sight is getting ever slightly worse. At Park Slope Eye, they did what they could to make the experience as pleasant as they could for everyone. They provide a laptop with internet access in the waiting area to help pass the time if you are not interested in reading the usual magazines found at other places. There are toys to help distract the customer's children while they are waiting ( Since this is Park Slope we are talking about, I imagine these toys are being used a lot ). There is even a lot of foo.... You have heard enough about the food already? Ok. Ok. Skipping it. I'm continuing the review... sheesh. The machines are much more modern than the places that I've previously checked my eyes at in the past like Pearl Vision and Cohen's Optical. That torture machine I talked about. The one that puffs air unpleasantly straight into your eyeball? They replaced that one here with something newer that is less invasive and only looks into your eye. That itself is almost worth having my eyes checked here instead. Boy do I hate that air puff machine ( I wish I knew what's it called. I sound so stupid calling it the air puffing machine but I'm currently too lazy to Google the proper name ). I even received a digital photo by mail of the inside of my pupils. I was told it was to see how healthy my blood vessels were, how my optic nerve was doing, and if there is a possible chance that something is amiss and could lead to some form of eye cancer. This is something new to me at these places. The whole process of having my eyes checked was fast and efficient. Although I use contacts most of the time, I could see through browsing the store that they have a good selection of glasses to choose from. The staff is incredibly friendly and patient. I saw them taking the time to explain in detail the co-pay options for a particular patient's benefits. Justin B, one of the eye doctors at the place ( and fellow Yelper to boot ) is very easy to talk to and acts more like your friend than your doctor. Friendly banter seems to be the norm with his patients here. In the end, this has been the best experience having my eyes checked anywhere and it's hard to imagine going back to any place else after this. P.S. Well, whether it was you or not, the way you show up to work is indicative of how much effort you actually want to put into your job.......maybe that's why I only got 5 minutes of help? And it was sweatpants not jeans. Ok, so judging by the responses to these posts...snarky remarks, youtube links and.... a quote from Bill Cosby.....(really??) The owner clearly does not know how to handle critique. I hope for his sake he learns how to turn negative feedback into improving his business instead of just taking things personally. I woudn't take any response to this post to seriously, lest it is actually something professional. I'll make this short, the service was unprofessional and downright rude. We were left waiting in the rain for 20 minutes while no one was available inside to help us. Apparently the optician was on a break and the doctor with an emergency exam. A few points to make here - if you are so severely short staffed, which is not the customer's problem whatsoever, why are you letting people go on 20+ minute breaks? And an apology would have been appropriate for making people wait, not an attitude. Don't care if you had an emergency exam, that part is fine. The attitude afterwards was not. Also, took over 4 weeks to get my glases, the excuse being there was a 'holiday rush'. Sorry, not buying it. I have gotten glasses and contacts before and have never had to wait that long, what kind of insurance you have has nothing to do with it. If you are going to keep people waiting that long perhaps the excuses should be more plausible. The bottom line - JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. There are too many places to choose from in Park Slope to get your glasses/contacts. Getting your glasses/contacts is such a small part of your life and shouldn't be this difficult. Hope this helps. Worst professional experience... EVER! Be sure to read the 1-star reviews! In-short, Park Slope Eye made my prescription wrong 3 times and I finally got so frustrated that I went down the street to Urban Optical. They got it right the first time and I had my glasses in just a few days. Urban Optical is amazing! My experience at Park Slope Eye was so bad that I couldn't even stand the thought of dealing with his office to try and get my money back. I subsequently walked away from a couple hundred bucks! Now that's bad! If you want to know more... I was offered a beer on my first visit. Seriously, alcohol before an eye exam? and in a medical environment? Rudest receptionist ever! Plus, you will never talk to anyone on the phone... only email and text... even if you ask them to call you. The glasses took almost 2 weeks to get (all 3 times)... I even offered to pay to get them rushed. The first time the glasses came back wrong, they said it was my fault and that I wanted "computer" glasses. She even went on to say she heard her colleague talk to me on the phone verifying that I wanted "computer" glasses. I don't even know what "computer" glasses are, but I very clearly requested the same type of multi-focal glasses I previously had when I came into the office. Dr. Bazan offered to replace the lenses in my spare glasses for free which was nice, but I declined the offer since they couldn't even get the lenses right for my primary glasses. A couple times I was there, the employees were eating greasy burgers and fries in the same area they were seeing customers and handling glasses and contacts. Now that can't be sanitary. BTW, I worked with Dr. Bazan for several weeks about all the frustrations and issues I experienced at Park Slope Eye. He asked me to post this to Yelp. read more

Very unprofessional. An optometrist that insults with profanity to a possible client. Society has hit a new low. Original: Seems impersonal. We walked in on a weekend to ask about a possible appointment. The attendant told us to email for an appointment and looked busy. I don't understand why he couldn't check for an opening for us. UPDATE: I heard from the owner, thinking that I must have visited another business. So, it may not be so impersonal. But, there was no apology about the lack of attention given to us by the attendant, if indeed it was the correct business.... which it was. The pictures are the same and the person I was with concurs it was the same place. Had he included an apology for the possibility of it being his business (again, which it was), I might have thought differently of this business. But, I stand with 2 stars. 2nd UPDATE: Rather than trying to work with me, you insulted my remarks. You should really attempt to take a customer service class. TERRIBLE ATTITUDE. 3rd UPDATE: Most Professionals do not use profanity towards their customers, ever, let alone twice. True colors were shown here. 4th UPDATE: As a business owner, I know customer service. Insulting customers is not what most professionals do. A courteous professional would rather have tried to apologize for your attendant's initial lack of customer service. I had purchased a $500 pair of sunglasses in the past and was impressed by the customer service. I subsequently lost these sunglasses but received a pair of sunglasses frames as a present. I returned today to order prescription lenses but was told that because my prescription was more than a year old (1 year and 1 month to be precise) that I had to have a $180 eye examination to update my prescription. What a racket. Before this I had been trying on frames and found a pair that I was interested in purchasing. Given the prescription issue, I asked for information on the frames and left the store. The manufacturer of the frames was not indicated on the card and so I called back to obtain this information. I was told that this was not possible, most likely because they overcharge on the frames. Although I was impressed with the frame selection, I was very disappointed with the service at Park Slope Eye and do not plan to shop here again. read more

I had come here once when I had an emergency, so was looking forward to coming back since it's around the corner from my apartment so that I could have my check-up and get new contacts and glasses. I arrived 30 min early and they were unable to confirm my insurance. I then came back home, tried to confirm, but my HR people weren't in yet. I then tried to call them, but you can't call them directly. I then walked back over there, and said I wanted to wait until I had confirmed my insurance, and I was told I'd be charged $50 cancellation fee (yup, I agreed to it, because I was sure that I would make my appointment). I said this was ridiculous, but was told 'it's the rule.' I then wrote an email asking for it to not be charged, and received this incredibly rude response from Dr. Bazan "Jessica did you keep the appointment or did you cancel it? It appears you cancelled it so the fee applies. You were well aware that if you did not keep the appointment, you would be charged. Furthermore, when you made the appointment you are reminded to make sure you insurance is in order. We do that as a courtesy but it really is just something responsible adults should be doing without being prompted. If you had verified you were authorized by VSP we would not have been in this situation. It was irresponsible of you not to have ensured your coverage. Take responsibility for your actions. " I find the tone unprofessional and the spirit behind the cancellation fee policy ridiculous - in my mind, cancellation fees are for people that flake on appointments. Or, I guess as he just told me, for "irresponsible" people like myself who aren't acting like adults. Whoa. Back off dude. I'm taking my money elsewhere. read more

Went to Park Slope Eye for an eye exam this afternoon after work. I see the reviews here on Yelp are a bit polarized, but for me the experience was great. I'm a big technology geek so I love when businesses embrace social media, online appointment booking, etc. It was really nice to get a text message and e-mail confirmation the day before. They were also very responsive with questions via e-mail prior to my appointment. From start to finish, the whole appointment took about an hour, which was perhaps a bit longer than I had initially thought, but that included doing all of the new patient "paperwork" (on the computer at the check-in desk), pre-exam, checkup with Dr. B, waiting 20 minutes for my eyes to dilate, and then the post-dilation checkup. So really not bad at all. Also, Dr. B and his staff explained every step of the exam which is a huge contrast to my previous eye doctor who just put drops in your eyes and made you do look into various machines without explaining anything. After the appointment I picked out new glasses and everything was squared away within 10 minutes. Overall the experience was extremely hassle free and I will definitely be back for my annual eye exam next year. read more

I have never had an experience like the one I had with Dr. Bazan today. Initially I had a problem seeing through one of the lenses during the refraction test because there was a fingerprint on the lens. It was clearly visible and problematic to me, but Dr. Bazan claimed he could not see it. He then tried some individual, hand-held lenses which also had smudges on them. That combined with the exam room lighting and the use of a monitor with a line of letters on it in lieu of a traditional eye chart did not inspire confidence that I would end up with accurate results. At one point Dr. Bazan had ME manually focusing lenses, which I found strange; this is not how even the most basic eye exam I've ever had -- and I've had glasses and regular eye exams since childhood, with some very top-notch doctors -- has worked. When I voiced my frustration, he suggested we end the appointment then and there, remarking that I would perhaps be better off somewhere else that met my "high standards." Wow. As a parting dig as I gathered my belongings, Dr. Bazan added, "Maybe this office is too modern for you." I nearly laughed out loud at his arrogance. A snack bar, free coffee mugs, and dirty equipment do not a modern facility make. This experience was upsetting and wasted my time. * * * (UPDATE after doctor's response: My "gloom" was a response to the shoddy treatment I was receiving. As for not being charged a dime -- I received nothing, why would I be charged? I think this doctor's use of YouTube links to mock me and utter contempt for a dissatisfied customer say it all, so this will be my last comment on any of this.) read more

Dr. Bazan and team always provide the highest quality service. I came in to discuss a potential ICL surgery. The staff let me know I was also due for my annual contacts exam, so I was able to get that done at the same time. Dr. Bazan took lots of time explaining my options (LASIK vs. ICL vs. doing nothing) and I left much more educated than when I came. He also sent me a number of recommended surgeons that I can follow up with for second opinons. read more

Dr. Bazan urged me to consider a type of lens I was super hesitant about, and offered me a week's worth of trials and a follow up appointment to see if I changed my mind (spoiler, I did). He even walked me through the research on why they were a better option for me, and told me about the recycling program they have because I had sustainability concerns about daily contacts. I can say many, many nice things about Park Slope Eye. And I will: 1) Location: This does not remind me of my visits as a kid to the eye doctor. I remember lots of ugly fake wood paneling and really dim lighting which seemed odd for a vision center. PSE was a bright, open space with amazing music and decor of local artists. There was also a large refreshments station with high quality coffee, teas, and high end snacks. I also got to keep the mug! 2) Staff: Dr. Bazan, Dr. Ridenour and crew are awesome and seem really interested in helping people improve their vision. More importantly, they are all well-versed and knowledgeable in their designated areas of expertise. 3) Eye Exam: Dr. Ridenour was more thorough than most physicians are when doing an entire body physical. The Dr. listened to my issues and discussed all the different tests performed. I was then emailed all my results for my records. This office has the best technology which allows them to provide the best service with cutting edge equipment. Its not just a 'wow' factor. PSE uses better equipment and techniques so that exams are less invasive and take less time. 4) Optician: My optician was very knowledgeable about frames and styles for my face type. I am very picky and she was very patient with me. I was a little disappointed that my insurance didn't cover the lenses and frames as they are pricey. Good quality products ain't cheap! I had such a HORRIBLE experience at Park Slope Eye that I am posting a review for my first time. They were unprofessional and manipulative and don't understand basic customer service. I ended up having to pay $50 for nothing because they only use facebook and sent me unhelpful information. I arrived at 10:20 for a 10:30 appointment. Even though they were supposed to open at 8 am, they were just opening. Someone had been standing outside for over an hour. Park Slope Eye does not answer phones so in advance of my appointment, I had facebook messaged to confirm the cost of my appointment. Facebook is the only way to communicate with Park Slope Eye. They told me, "If you have had an exam within the last few months, we would only need to check the Rx. That would be 50. If you would like to do the comprehensive exam as well, the total would be 179." I incorrectly assumed that I could choose whether to have just the Rx check or the comprehensive exam. I now see the message both ways and it was clearly a simple miscommunication. I asked to cancel my appointment instead of paying $179 just to correct a wrong prescription, and was told that I would still have to pay $50 to cancel my appointment. I explained my situation directly to Dr. Bazan and he told me that in spite of wasting an hour and a half of my day and receiving unclear communication from facebook (and providing no other way to communicate), I still had to pay the $50. I walked out without my prescription or my $50 just so I never have to deal with Park Slope Eye again. BUYER BEWARE! read more

When this eye care facility first opened they were first rate. Unfortunately they have gone downhill. I cannot recommend them. Candy, drinks, slick design and tech savviness cannot make up for shoddy customer service and only looking out for their bottom line on multiple occasions. There have been many recent negative reviews so it seems to be a trend I wouldn't ignore if I were looking for eye care services. When I first went there my only experience had been with Lens Crafters. Dr Bazan is thorough, the location is very convenient, sleek, and technically savvy. I was very impressed. However they lost their glasses guru who was the heart of this place and it has not been the same since. Recently my husband needed to update his glasses prescription and told them he would need to schedule his appointment for a bit in the future because he was going to an important conference out of town where he would need his glasses. They said that that would be unnecessary and that they could do the job in less than a week. He was very pleased. However this was not the case. The glasses ended up taking a month to deliver, a far cry from the week they promised so enthusiastically. They tried to make good on the situation with a gift certificate. However the damage was done and he did not have his glasses for the conference, unable to read the presentations at a distance. I also needed to order new contacts. After my husband's experience I did not want to go back to them, but I figured I could deal with them this one last time. I have had many medical bills this year, I'm unemployed, without eye insurance. I cannot afford the $50-125 it costs to have a new exam. However my rx has been the same for years and a new exam I thought was extreme since I just had one last year and to skip a year is not a medical emergency. Dr Bazan refused to make an exception, sent an inflammatory fax to the contact lens service saying that filling this order would be "dangerous and risks this patients health." I had to talk the lens ordering service into not canceling my order; they'd never received such an extreme fax before. Doctors hold a lot of power over our pocketbooks in this country, and Dr Bazan seems oblivious to this. Many doctors have this blind spot. Every medical service should come with a price tag and not treated so casually, as it exacts a high price in this country for many, certainly the unemployed. I cannot recommend the services of a company so blind to this and uninvolved with the issues of the cost of medical care in this country (they are unusually expensive for exams and frames). By far, the best eye doctor I've ever visited. The man who greeted us (I forgot his name! Sorry!) was super friendly and welcoming. He made me tea and even coffee for my husband while we waited, as well as snacks after preliminary sign-in stuff. My wait was very short, and Dr. Bazan was awesome. He explained everything very thoroughly, which I really appreciated because I get kind of anxious with people poking around in my eyes. Also, they don't do the obnoxious puff test thing here, which was an amazing surprise. Then, I worked with Yaz on picking out glasses. She was also awesome and super helpful. I didn't feel like she was annoyed at all while I took forever picking out frames. She also gave input and suggestions which I really appreciated, instead of the usual "I don't really care. Pick whatever frames you like. They're YOUR glasses," attitude that you frequently encounter in eye offices. I have a hard time committing to new frames sometimes, and she was really helpful and patient. She told me the glasses would be ready for pick up within a week, and then I got an email later that evening that they were ready! I came all the way from the Bronx to this place because a friend of mine recommended it (and we both got $25 off for mentioning the referral!), and as long as I live in NYC, this is where I'll go. I had a bad experience with this place. They were very aggressive with billing (threatening collection agencies) with an issue they brought up over a year after my visit. In the end they agreed I was not in error and didn't owe them any money, but the manner in which everything was handled was entirely unprofessional. In terms of stress and hassle, this was the most expensive free mug / candy bar I've ever received. Even before this issue, I didn't like how Dr. Bazan treated me or his employees. I had read so many great things about Park Slope Eye, so I decided to book an appointment to check my eyes since I haven't seen an eye Doctor in 6 years. Dr. Brazan was running a bit late, but he was so welcoming and apologetic for the wait (the receptionist was not there for some reason, I had a late evening appointment). Dr. Brazan offered me wine, snacks, coffee (great spread) while I waited. Once I went into the exam room with Dr. Brazan, he explained every single process thoroughly and the scientific terminology behind everything. He is very professional, but very cool and easy to talk to. All the technology/medical equipment/computers were very up to date and very modern. Very cool to look at your eye on a computer screen! Loved it. Came in with less-than-great contacts and still needing my morning coffee. I left fully caffeinated with crystal clear vision and a mug for my afternoon coffee too! Everyone was extremely friendly, without being annoying (there's a fine balance), and the usual painstaking process of locating a new frame was finished in minutes. My review: I recently went to park slope eye and was fairly happy with the experience. The optometrist is nice and friendly, front desk offers you a drink when you get in. Friendly. After my appointment, when it came to ordering products from them (in my case glasses and contacts) is when it all went south. My insurance issues a free pair of glasses a year, well not here. Ok I say, no big deal I'll just get a pair anyways and pay the difference since I at least get $200 off. The lady that handles sales rings me up to a tune of ~ $800 dollars for contacts and glasses. I'm shocked, so I got through line by line to find out that she mistakenly added $300 of extra costs! She apologizes, I say don't worry about it, at least we caught it. She rings me up again, the price still seems high to me, so I ask - what about the $200 I get off for my glasses? Turns out she forgot to take that off! I saved myself about $400 doing someone else's job for them. Great. Then she tells me that my glasses will take 3-4 weeks to arrive. This seems absurd, but I walk away at least satisfied that I'd received the right price. Then a week later I get a bill from them for more money. I ignored it because of the ridiculous situation I was just in, I figured they had made another mistake. Another week and I received a letter from A debt collector trying to collect on the debt. Awesome. Thanks park slope eye, for Trying to rip me off, then attempting to destroy my credit because you are so Incompetent when it comes to working a cash register. Never again. There are plenty of other optometrists, and many great online companies to order from for the exact same products for FAR less money. read more

Easy, breezy and frighteningly friendly would sum up my eye exam experience at Park Slope Eye. We got off to a rough start but once things got under way everything was dandy. Yes, this place is out of the way for me. And yes, there's plenty of optometrists available in my neck of the woods to pick and choose from. But after reading about the success of Yelp's Brooklyn event here this past summer and Wing's pleasant ordeal I decided to book an appointment. And...their working phone number unfailingly went to voice mail after each call to inquire about availability, insurance, etc. Zombie phone number. It was frustrating not having an actual person pick up each time. But once I sent an email, the appropriate correspondence started. Tip #1: if you want a fast response, leave a message or send an email and they will get back to you quickly. They were able to fit me in at a convenient slot the following week. And I waited in giddy anticipation for my appointment. But I am a basket case about time and my misjudgment of the MTA's schedule led me to be fifteen minutes late. No matter, they proceeded to get me a cup of tea only to tell me five minutes later that they couldn't do the appointment that day and the exam would have to be rescheduled. Grrrrr. Tip #2: Do not be late for your appointment!!!! I returned (promptly) the following day. So early was I, I took advantage of their clean and minimalist space to browse the internets, peruse their nice snack selection and twiddle my thumbs. Dr. Ritenour saw me and he was friendly, competent and thorough. Yes, I am going blind as a bat but he informed me of what to look for and what to avoid and so forth. Questions are encouraged. Their equipment is state of the art and comfortable. It was the first time I got to see clear, colorful pics of my peepers. Half an hour later, the exam was over and I retrieved my prescription. No pressure to purchase. But after a quick review over coverage and whatnot, I decided to get my contacts here. I left with a complimentary gift card for Starbucks as a thank you token. This is my second experience with Dr. Bazan's office and his team and have nothing but good things to say. The office vibe is really relaxing, they helped make my son comfortable, and they are timely. Some nice art in the office to look at while you wait to boot. The office has the latest technology and is paperless. When you ask for things like your prescription you don't get a run around. They send it to you right via email. Dr Bazan does a great job of being patient, listening, and explaining things about my eye. As long as they take my insurance, I will keep coming back. read more

Dr. Bazan really knows how to make the normally unpleasant experience of going to the eye doctor pleasant. The office has a fresh, modern, clean vibe. The staff offers you coffee when you walk in, and you get to keep the mug. I'm a sucker for fonts, and I really like font on the the mug! Also, I really like how you can just email with Dr. Bazan and his staff.. it's so modern and easy I wish all doctors did it this way. Oh yeah, I should probably talk about what it's like to get your eyes checked there. In my experience, it's totally quick and easy. Dr. Bazan is personable and caring. I'm a fan. read more

There is a reason these guys have a nearly-uniform five stars on Yelp. (Frankly, that was the reason I initially bookmarked them, making a mental note to visit these guys for my next appointment.) So, going in, I expected them to impress. They did. They are both unbelievably friendly, patient and incredibly knowledgeable (no question too strange, which was awesome) throughout the entire process -- and all the Ring Pops you can eat while you wait, guys. I don't write reviews typically but I just /had/ to write one for this place. Of all the optometrists I've seen in my life, this is a place that makes me /want/ to have eye problems just so I have a reason to go back. Not only are the staff warm and receptive to your needs but, they go the extra mile and really help you to feel at home in what one might forget is a doctor's office. From the moment you enter, you are provided a fine selection of teas as well as coffee - heck, they even have Soy milk for your coffee/tea for those of you who are lactose intolerant, or just don't like cow milk. I called this morning looking for an exam to determine why my eyes were irritated and red (turns out it was my contacts which I started wearing after my glasses broke) and they were able to squeeze me in last minute. Not only were they able to get me in and diagnose the problem, but they managed to give me a full exam and determine that my prescription was slightly off and order me same day glasses (I'm a software engineer so I /need/ to see!). As I mentioned, I'm not much into writing reviews typically but, this place deserves a few moments of my time. Now I just need to find more friends with glasses/contacts whom I can send to this place.. :-) read more

I have had vision issues since the 4th grade so I have been to my fair share of eye doctors. Park Slope Eye and Dr. Bazan are the best. Seriously. The office itself is very hip and they offer you water, coffee, snacks and fruits while you wait. I was offered an iPad to play with since the doctor was a tied up a bit before my appointment. That was all great, but it was how Dr. Bazan explained each procedure in layman's terms so I can understand what he is doing with my eye and why. He is very professional and obviously knows what he is doing. I have had some eye doctors in the past worsen my vision with their care. I rarely post but felt compelled to do so. I was a customer of park slope eye for a few years. My eyes had not been tested for several years and after my first appointment I was told I developed astigmatism and required glasses and also ocular hypertension which required six months of follow ups. The prescription was minor but nevertheless purchased glasses anyway based on advice of the doctor. I recently went to an ophthalmologist, who found no astigmatism and no ocular hypertension. Be weary of this place and who you see for eye care as they appear to only want to sell you prescription lenses. read more

Dr. Bazan was great - professional, efficient and honest. He didn't push extra products or services onto me, and we had a great discussion about Warby Parker and other online frame shops too. Their frame selection isn't great. Look elsewhere for that. I'd totally go back here for my next eye exam. Highly recommended. read more

Look on the reviews that are not factored into the rating. There are over 134 ratings that are not included, not surprisingly most of which are 1-star ratings. "Your trust is our top concern, so businesses can't pay to alter or remove their reviews" IS NOT TRUE This guy has a deal with Yelp, and my negative review was shafted after Justin B. posted a response, which initially was a big huge lie, which he edited to be a just a moderately sized lie. DON'T TRUST YELP OR PARK SLOPE EYE. (When I scheduled, it WAS for the allotted groupon or whatever special time slot. Park slope eye's mistake NOT mine. I did not mishear the receptionist, but rather the receptionist probably didn't want to deal with another angry patient. My boyfriend can confirm all these incidents. In any case, I paid cash to see my previous OD in UWS.) Also you're saying the credibility of many of us is low? Why would we want to post a negative review just for kicks? Update: Barbara the financial manager who isnt in the office finally confirmed that the additional charges on top of what I paid for an out-of-pocket visit were reversed after no one IN office would respond to my four prompt emails about erroneous billing. She was great and polite, I appreciate her help. This person who wrote the response didn't seem to read my review and everything he said is irrelevant to my issues at PS Eye. read more
