The idea behind this small restaurant chain goes back to the late 1950's when some Aussies went on…read morea road trip across the US of A. They noticed the popularity of pancakes on the menus in American restaurants and wanted to bring that love of pancakes to Australia. They opened their first restaurant in Adelaide in 1965 and then opened around Victoria. The original founders separated with one moving to Sydney and opening Pancakes On The Rocks. Since that time, the chain shrunk, revived, and then added to the menu. We came here for a late breakfast or early lunch with our Australian friends, who had fond memories in their youth of this small chain. In fact, one mentioned getting kicked out of a location many years ago. Fortunately for her, the statute of limitations has run out and there is no "banned" list in existence. :) Among the crowded dining room, we managed to snag a nice big booth, and settled in. Our friends wasted no time heading to the pancake part of the menu and ordering sweet selections that I'm sure would max out my A1C number. Their portions were huge and they dug right in. Gayle and I were boring, and each ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad, which were quite good and plentiful. And yes, beer and wine go with salad and pancakes! Our wait person was fun and playful, and everything moved through our stay quite well. There's a QR code option, but we still like to order from a tactile menu.

The host seats you and you can order using the QR code or at the podium. The pancakes were very delicious but, the bacon reminded me more of ham but tasted like bacon. It wasn't cooked hard like I would prefer. The eggs were good I added salt and pepper for flavoring. The hash brown was okay lacked taste so I had to request ketchup and was my least favorite. Overall if I went back for breakfast I would only order the pancakes.

Was told this place is bomb.com in Neutral Bay so was happy to see it in The Star food court so I…read morecould try it close by. I've been twice now, once for ribs and once for burgers. It's a pretty good full rack of pork ribs at $28 with chips; much cheaper than Hurricane's but also not as good, but still quite delicious. When I got the steak burger it was just alright, a bit exxy if you want chips and a drink...total is about $30. I'd opt for the ribs each time for that price. Compared to Aaron's experience, the wait wasn't too bad each time. Stamp of approval.

You have Sokyo, Momofuku, Balla and Black on the one side and you have the foodcourt style on the other side like Ding Tai Fung and Ribs and Burgers. Had the chicken breast to be safe (red meat dishes like beef and pork could either be overcooked or undercooked) so thought you can't go wrong with chicken breast right? Yes I was right. Usually cooked chicken breast are very dry but these ones (that look like the map of Australia) was damn juicy and flavoursome. The only thing that was annoying was it's served on a wooden board. Not that I have anything against chopping boards, but the sauce was dripping all over the table and had to clean it up - I'm responsible like that! Oh and the chips (big fan) are crunchy too! They have this pink sauce - all the sauces are FOC (free of charge) - and was quite interesting when you have it with the chips. Try it yourself!
