Back when Don was running the ship things were cool. Last year after trying to charge me $600+ for changing out the turn signal switch and leaving me with no horn I split. Having just taken my new back to my new Jeep specialist mechanic in San Rafael (Phil, Golden Gate Jeep), he discover that they had cut several wires to my turn signal and removed a relay. I took my truck in for a timing belt replacement. They did the replacement but my truck still didn't start -- their conclusion was that the motor was dead. My year and model truck has a particularly finicky timing belt alignment system. I asked if they would double check to make sure it was installed correctly. They said "no no no, we did it right, it's just dead." I took it to another place. The new mechanic said that the timing belt was installed INCORRECTLY, just like I suspected. He also discovered that they had inexplicably removed two spark plugs. He had the truck running in half a day's work. Pretty good for a 'dead' motor! I had to pay Parker Auto for services that were ultimately not rendered, plus I had to incur the cost of towing my truck away from their shop, getting the timing belt done properly, and parts and labor on those spark plugs. I'm in the process of filing a claim with the CA Bureau of Automotive Repair to get a refund. If that's the kind of experience you want, go to Parker. read more

I was super stressed out about my car, and they took the time to diagnose the issue, and didn't give up on solving the problem. My car wouldn't start and they took the time to figure out what was wrong and fix it! I also really like that it is a small family business! While driving to Tahoe, my rear view mirror fell off. I stopped by a few dealerships only to have them tell me the mirror needed to be replaced. I decided to wait to fix it until returning to the Bay Area. I found Parker Automotive on Google and called. Marcel answered and was totally cool. I was having problems with my 4x4 shifting in and out of gear. I had taken my truck to 3 different shops that all said different thing, including one shop that said all of the computers in the truck were shot. The people at Jeeparker were more more then happy to do a free diagnostic to see if they could find the problem. It took the guys the Jeeparker two full days to sort out the problem, it turned out that some wires had come off there mount and fallen on to the manifold and melted. After two days i was sure that my bill was going to be thru the roof, but I only charger me $120.They were honest straight forward, I will be taking my truck back to Jeeparker for any future work. read more

LOOK NO FURTHER FOR THE GREATEST AUTOMOTIVE SHOP IN MARIN. (Especially if you are a woman who has been ripped off by mechanics like i have.) THE WORK IS GREAT! Some people can't be bought. Its rare but every now and then one pops up. Marcel knows i'm not rich and never does 'The Marin Gouge' He's cut me so many breaks i have offered to go into his shop and catch the phone for him for a few days. He is ethical. He gets his character from his Dad, 'Donald.' who has had the family automotive shop on Lisbon in San Rafael forever. i think they own the building which means they don't have to pay rent and pass down the savings to customers. Marcel stands by his work and it is always excellent. If i don't need something done to my car, he does not do it. Here is how we met 2 years ago: I was desperate for an oil change. Marcel had closed up his shop but he saw that i was a woman alone about to hit the road on a long trip so he made a phone call, someone else picked up his kids from school so he could help me out. i never knew angels flew so close to earth!!!!~ i wish i could give Marcel more than 5 stars. Have been coming to these guys for over three years with my 2000 Jeep Cherokee. Donald and Marcel know Jeeps and they go the extra mile to provide quality service. Most recently, my starter failed at a location a few miles from their shop. I called Marcel and he said 'I'll be there in ten minutes." Quickly diagnosed the problem - bad starter - jumped the car, drove it to the shop and within two hours I was out of there. After my fourth visit over a 5 week period my Jeep is now in another shop being repaired. My Jeep was never fixed for the problem I took it in for and seemed to get worse after each visit. I spent over $2,500 dollars on various things like brakes and radiators and water pumps, and more but what good are new brakes if you can't drive the car? I wish Parker would of fixed the car first before doing all the extra stuff unfortunately he never addressed the original problem. Last time I called him when my Jeep stopped he told me he was too busy that day and the next and to stop by the following week, and "Thanks for calling" click he hung up on me. read more

I took my car in to this place for a simple fix, and I was disgusted with the whole experience. There is a huge disconnect in the mechanic industry, between the way men and women are treated as customers, so I'm not surprised that a lot of male customers have left a positive review. If you're a woman, this is a prime example of the sort of place you should steer clear of! Right from the start, the owner chose to grin and stare at my breasts in a really degrading, inappropriate, and unprofessional manner, while I was trying to have a conversation about my car. The repair I came in for was a simple job that required working on an area that needed to be accessed through the front of the dash. Unasked, he lifted the hood and looked for other repairs to sell me on, and when I picked up the car, I was met with an incredible amount of drama about other repairs that he wanted to do that I had not come to him for. I do not know whether these repairs were even necessary, but I will definitely be seeking other professional opinions. Then, he tried to sell me on a $130 oil change, right then and there, and told me that my car would be ruined if I didn't pay him that $130 to put synthetic oil in it. When I told him I did not have that kind of money, he got angry and argued with me instead of being respectful. I went home and checked my owner's manual, and found out that, in the exact wording, "synthetic oil is not recommended." Also, according to the owner's manual, I was not even due for an oil change for another 1,500 miles. Other places will happily change my oil for about $30, when it is time for it to be changed; I will never ever EVER be going back to this con artist. read more
