After another mechanic quoted me $1500 for a new A/C compressor, I took it to Breno. He diagnosed a problem with the power supply. I didn't need a new compressor, just an inexpensive fuse and recharging the coolant, saving me a lot of money. An honest shop. Steve and staff were great in being honest about a water pump repair. The book time was 8 hours, Steve said he would charge based on actual time spent. Not what the book says. This saved me a lot of $$$. Finding a competant shop who deals in honesty and fairness is rare. Steve is an amazing and honest mechanic. I thought I needed to replace the front brake pads on my ford ranger because I did not touch them for over 2 years. When I visited Steve he told me the pads actually had over 50% life left instead of installing the new parts anyways. Steve also fit me into the schedule last minute to do an AC recharge on my ranger day of and restored the AC system to blow cold again! Stand up service. Had a problem with a steering wheel in a 2013 Elantra. Not from around here so made an appointment at a dealership. Their diagnostic charge is about $190 per their website. I wanted to find a mechanic in town that I could trust. I did a search and based on what I found on Yelp I called Northgate Automotive and ended up speaking with the owner. I decided to cancel the appointment at the dealer and took my car in. It was repaired the same day I took it in and for a price slightly over the diagnostic charge at the dealership. I figure it saved me about $300. Also, the shop at Northgate Automotive was clean and organized. I was completely satisfied and have recommended the shop to my daughter who lives here for all her maintenance needs. read more

Steve has been my main guy for a few years. He always does dependable, affordable and transparently-priced work on my Prius and my girlfriend's CRV. Well first this place is so cool! what a great space without the congestion of normal shops. I was housesitting when my headlight went out. It is an old car and was tough to get out and replace. I called another shop and they wanted to charge my $60 so called Northgate next - he said to come on over. He, the owner, didn't even charge me at all! If I lived in Marin I would go there for sure!! The day before a 10 day road trip, the boot came off my right axle. When it happened, it was a bit scary because there was oil all over the engine and the smoke made it impossible to see what was wrong. Stressed, I called a few places. Earl at Northgate Automotive told me to drop it off and they would get to it asap. It took them a day to get a remanufactured part (thereby saving me $300,) but I felt that they were clear in their communications and they did their best to expedite the process. I just called your shop to get an estimate on work. Whoever answered the phone said he didn't have time to talk to me because he had a customer. (What am I?) He said he would call me back so I started to give him my phone number. He interrupted me and said "What do you want done". A bit harsh, but you're busy... I can accept that. I told him that I wanted my transmission flushed, an oil change, and I need a new water pump, he instantly said he doesn't do that work and told me to call someone else and hung up the phone before I could say anything back. Your web site lists that you do all of those things. You need to get this guy off the phone because he's going to kill your business. If he is representing your shop, then I sure don't want any work being done there because they clearly don't have time to do things right and they clearly do not want work. I haven't had a terrible customer service experience like this in a long time. read more

When I discovered a day later that the battery company (Interstate) gave us the run-around on the warranty, Steve made good on a refund for me even tho' it was a pain for him and barely worth all the trouble. These guys are great. Breno and Steve treated me with such kindness. Last night the tassels on my top got stuck in my seatbelt and I feared I had just cost myself hundreds of dollars and would have to replace the seatbelt. I used a flashlight and some tools without success. Breno gave it a try and he got the fabric out and wella! My seatbelt worked again. They did not charge me. I have never been to this business and had no connection to them and they were willing to help me. I knew the dealership and most others would just tell me I needed a new part.
