Have been pointed to this place my locals, but never made it in. Drive by it weekly and think "gotta go there". Finally, due to having business in the town, decided to check it out for lunch. Interior is like a log cabin and the odd shaped interior is interesting. Bet it gets busy on the weekend. I ordered a salad - it was ok. Bacon in it was over-poweringly salty. The sugared walnuts were also overpoweringly sweet. Chicken was over-cooked. All in all, not good - I will not order salad there again. Hubby had the parmesan beef melt sandwich and it was *perfect*. We could easily have split it between us and both walked out full. Seasoned fries with it were great too. Cole Slaw had garlc - a surprising and good change from regular slaw. Oh yeah - ordered onion rings (our must have) and they got the R&D Seal of Approval. So - for the most part, happy. Just a little unhappy (salad). Waitress made a point of coming over and chatting a bit, which was welcoming. Giving it a 3-star for now - A-OK, and if we make it back (for the parmeson melt!) or an after the stables beer, perhaps I'll revisit this review. This was basically deli turkey, lettuce, and corn? No bacon and why was there corn? I dont know how the cook can screw up basic bar food, but he did. Our waitress was extremely apologetic. Best restaurant in Huntley or surrounding area. Not only is JR and his staff amazing and accommodating, but their food is amazing as well. Parkside has a small-town local feel that makes you want to flock to it. JR is extremely engrained in the community and it shows with his actions. He is always walking around checking on people and saying hi. It is not often anymore you see that. I recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a great meal and fun atmosphere. Miserable experience. Not a frequent patron but had been there a few times. Mostly outside. It was hot out and brought my family indoors only to be seated by a bunch of loudmouth drunks whose mouth filters were off. I put up with it until some guy slipped and fell off his barstool. I don't want my kids seeing that. I asked for the manager, and the server said he was unavailable. I left my phone number and requested he call me so I could explain my experience. He never called back. I see from the reviews that he is a genuinely a bad and lazy guy, so that's my last visit to Parkside. read more

Okay listen. I don't give bad reviews but I came to Huntley for a concert, and came into Parkside for a Philly. The food was great, the service was amazing, but the bartender nearly ruined the night. The red headed female bartender humiliated me in front of the group. She was behaving inappropriately with customers and being hateful towards me, unprompted. Come to Huntley, support local business, but avoid the indoor bar. I recommend the patio. EDIT: very impressed with Parkside's response to my concerns. They're good people. read more

This is the perfect townie bar in Huntley. I grew up here drinking and having a fun time. They put on a Turkey Testical Festival every year that the whole town of Huntley comes together for! They have live bands, great selection of foods, and a nice outdoor patio area and bar for the summer months! The scenery is great when sitting out there too as this bar is directly downtown Huntley. I've lived in Huntley for about 10 years now and I've only ever been to Parkside for the Turkey Testical Festival on Black Wednesday. (a must if you are from around here, a few too many cougars for my taste but whatevs). Went here for dinner last night and was pleasantly suprised. We got nachos and burgers- the nachos could have been the meal. Huge platter and super good. Burgers were run of the mill. Service wasn't great but not bad enough to keep me away. First time to Parkside and the service was excellent. Walking in the first thing you see is a massive bar and TVs, which makes you want to belly up, order a cold one. This place is supposedly known for it's Burgers and Soups. I ordered the Parkside burger, with Swiss and Bacon. What did I get? I one pound Angus beef burger cooked well done (I had ordered medium as I hate dry burgers) but regardless of it being well done, the burger was perfect and melted in my mouth. Plenty of cheese...no one skimped in the kitchen but most surprising was not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, but 6 big lovely slices of bacon on my burger. Accompanying the burger was the usual lettuce, onion slices and pickle on the side. No toppings for this boy, just mustard and ketchup. Even the bun was slightly warm but not dried out!!! One bite...two bites...oh yes, this is one DAMN FINE burger. I devoured the one pound burger, chased it down with three beers and some sweet potato french fries. The waitress was surprised I finished the whole thing... I guess I'm a big boy now after eating that monster burger! Stop on in, the outdoor seating (where we ate) is great. There is another bar out there as well along with TVs. This is definitely the kind of place I could easily find myself hanging out on a summer night, listening to live music and hanging with friends. We passed by this place for years so we decided to try it. We enter thru the patio and it was packed and loud. We ended up getting a seat inside the bar which was very loud. Our server was nice. She took our order and that was it. We got our food close to an hour as they have a big party outside. I wished they would've told us ahead of time. Okay about the food, we ordered half slab ribs and brisket sandwich along with sides. The half slab ribs was small but very good, very tasty. The fries were cold and stale. The brisket was very good and so are the onion rings. Coleslaw was not good at all. Our server apologized for the wait and told us the owner said our dinner is on the house. My wife and I have now been here twice with our two young kids and both times had an excellent experience. Although the first time we did have a long wait for our food, the staff did a great job of checking in on is and were very friendly. The food was excellent each time. The first visit I had the Buffalo Style Southern Fried Chicken sandwich and that was a winner. The second visit I had the Southwest Chipotle Burger which was good. We also had the Voodoo Shrimp appetizer which was outstanding. The most recent visit, the server tending the bar outside let us know ahead of time that a large party had just placed a food order so it might be 15 more minutes. When we ordered our appetizer, without us asking she placed our kids orders with our appetizer so at least the kids food would get out sooner. She also brought us a second round of drinks without us asking and we were sitting on the opposite end of the beer garden. What I really appreciated is that going to an establishment that is slightly more bar than grill, they were very kid friendly. They had kid meals available but wait staff and a guy who I think was a manager was super friendly to us and our kids. read more

The voodoo shrimp is delicious! The patio is nice. We had bloody Mary's and they had no garnish-not even one olive or a slice of lime. Everything is plastic, cups and utensils. Better than average bar food. Had a combo "fried" app platter, and the checken was good, and the onion rings were very good. The rest of the platter was okay. Had the pot roast sandwich and it was very good. The pot roast had a very good flavor and was nicley slow cooked and tender. The sandwich is served with a cup of brown meat gravey that is excellent for dipping the sandwich, the tots, the menu, and anything else on the table. Service was friendly, quick and helpful. We've been going to Parkside since we moved to Huntley three years ago, and after another great experience there tonight, I finally felt compelled to write a review. There a lot of things to love about this neighborhood gem, but the #1 factor is the atmosphere. It's a local pub frequented by regulars that still manages to feel inclusive. From the first time we walked in, we never felt like "outsiders" or "newbies." Tonight the bar's patrons were singing along to "Sweet Caroline" while enjoying the Blackhawks game on TV. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Our favorite waitress, Gina, is a particular ray of sunshine, while the owner, JR, has done a masterful job building a fixture in the Huntley community. It's an especially enjoyable scene when the weather warms up and the outdoor patio is relaxing and inviting. As for the food, I've probably tried about 20 different items in the menu, and they've all been delicious. I'm especially partial to the homemade chicken salad on a croissant, though the pulled pork sandwich and the burgers are excellent choices as well. Sandwiches, burgers, and wraps all offer the choice of fries or tater tots as a side (I love anywhere that offers tots!) and the coleslaw is a delicious accompaniment as well. There's a slew of terrific appetizers, and even the soups and salads deliver. Tuesday nights are $2 Taco Tuesdays, one of the best deals in town. And there are daily drink specials, too. Parkside might be best known for the Turkey Testicle Festival it hosts every November, but I haven't experienced it firsthand, so I can't speak to that event. I do know attendees who have raved about it, and it is hugely popular, so I hope to eventually make it there for the Festival to check it out. Bottom line? There are chain burger and pizza places in the area, and then there's Parkside. Do yourself a favor and choose to frequent this local treasure. Nice environment, great food. Bartenders are good. The wait staff is horrid. I have stopped going there for the most part (Used to go once a month minimum) because its just a headache. Especially since I'm expecting it now. My last visit was a table outside for my gal and I in their garden. We sat down and began to wait (Which ALWAYS happens to us, I don't know if its just me or what). The place was not packed, rather starting to fill for evening dinner. After 10 minutes another table sat behind us and waited. 5 minutes later the waitress went to them first and completely ignored us. I just gave up. We had dealt with the bad service because it is a great place, and good food. However, we've since found other local establishments that work just as good. read more
