I don't usually make bad reviews, but here it goes: Prime Rib Saturday Special, arrived at the start 5:00pm. Ashley our server not very attentive at all. Not asking us for refills, forgetting our salads, got Caesar dressing instead of creamy garlic. She brought the salads during dinner and that was the last we saw of her until the check. Now quality of the food: my wife and I ordered the same size steak, mine was definitely not a 12 oz. ( not that I was jealous). Ordered it medium, both were rare. The loaded baked potato's were kind of under baked. Instead of soft, very chunky and slightly warm. We ordered the sautéed Brussel sprouts which seemed a bit under cooked and possibly boiled for the additional amount charged. Service is always good here. Quick to seat us. Serve Coca-Cola Usually go for Friday night fish fry dinner. Great perch. Salad was fresh, crispy and light. Just sat in the high tops for the first time. Usually sit in the booth and table section where you first walk in. Decided to try out back to expedite drinks and dinner on Friday night. We have visited this place ever since Brett owned it years ago. They've expanded and have a nice outdoor deck now. Stopped in for fish fry last Friday and was really disappointed. Sat in their new addition around 7:00pm. The entire center of the restaurant was a very large party of 20. Unfortunately real loud. No acoustics. Coming from the restaurant business I had second thoughts of staying since the big table were waiting for their food. We ordered right away and - waited........ About 3/4 of an hour later we received our food. Shrimp piping hot (good) fish luke warm and fries cold. As we were eating, the large table were ready to leave and all asked for separate checks. Just a suggestion to the management. Your establishment is not prepared for a size like that especially on a Friday. I realize it's great business but doing it sacrifices the other guests to endure an untimely meal served cold. The staff did all they could do. The bottle neck was in the small kitchen. Went there for lunch with friends. I ordered shrimp to eat and then a fish fry to go. Both the shrimp dinner and the fish fry came out as an order to take out. The fish fry consisted of basically one piece of fish that was cut up in different pieces. Wasn't worth the money. It did come with a huge baked potato though, I guess that compensated for the lack of fish. So if you order something to go, check your order first. read more

We have dined at Pub 72 3X. Every time it has exceeded our expectations. Last Friday we stopped in for their fish fry. They have the option of fried or baked cod Perch or walleye. Also spice options like blackened, Cajun or lemon pepper. We had the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer. It was excellent. The sweet potato fries were the best I've had anywhere. We've LOVED going to Pub 72 for breakfast but every experience with the owner's daughter is horrible. Her behavior suggests that she genuinely dislikes customers. She upcharges for premium liquor when it wasn't requested. She charged higher than the posted price for items. When questioned, she basically said "that's the way it is", a more congenial response might have been "I'm sorry, we haven't had a chance to update the menu." On another visit, when we asked if pancakes could be substituted for toast, her irritated response was "our prices are already low enough, we don't do substitutions ". Unrelated to her consistent bad attitude, what's with the 10% discount for cash payment? Credit card fees are only 3ish %? Something seems off with that. read more

The Food at Pub 72 was delicious! I had the baby back ribs half rack with pork and beans, homemade coleslaw, yummy! My husband had the pulled pork, Jalapeño Cheddar Bratwurst and waffles fries! They have a big bar area, with a small roped off area by the bar for video gambling. They have 2 different rooms, one where the bar is in, another open two door walk through area which looked bigger for of more dining. They had a good menu, its online, that's how my son was able to see what he wanted. They had a flyer on the wall, a country band coming in at 9PM to play! I'm sure they will be very busy! I've been on a mission to have weekend breakfasts at rural locations in Illinois, and today we hit the Pub 72 Bar & Grill in Gilberts, IL. The "72" is after the number of the highway, and if memory serves me, is a rather new name. Not sure if the change also represented a change in ownership. The place has a menu with "something for everything" whether you're in the mood for plate dinners, sandwiches, appetizers, pizza, or adult beverage drink specials. They serve a VERY economical breakfast (beginning at $2.99) on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 AM. This is one of those joints were seemingly every employee took a course in what being in the hospitality business truly means. You're almost always greeted by the owner when you walk in, a guy who doesn't think so much of himself that it would be beneath him to walk around, refill coffees, inquire to customers satisfaction, and be observant enough to notice patrons that need attention. Superb. Rare qualities in most smaller places these days. Serving help was equally affable, smiles all around, diligent order taking, great follow-up. By 9:30, the place was pretty busy with Sunday morning diners. I had ham steak and eggs, great piece of ham with a nice grill char on it, just the way I like it. And a slice of Texas toast. As is the fashion at small diners in Illinois, a bowl of butter pats grazes each table. Eggs cooked precisely as ordered. Hash browns are above average too. I'll be back. You should check them out if you live in the area, or are tooling down I-90 some day. read more
