I am no longer a patient here and here's why. I went to a great doctor here for years, but he retired. My next visit I saw a different doctor, whom I also liked. Unfortunately, for my next appointment, they assigned me a different doctor and sent text of my preview payment, which was much more than I had paid in the past. In addition, the reviews I did on the doctor they assigned were not favorable. I don't think it is fair to assign a random doctor to an established patient. read more

I've been here once the eye exam went fine and the doctor was very knowledgeable and kind to me this review is not about them. It's about the women running the eyeglasses area. I was very pleased to find a petite eyeglass section and quickly fell in love with a gold pair of frames that I thought looked great on me! I was super excited until I sat down to order the glasses and the woman assisting me said "Are you sure you like THESE frames"? Instantly,I began second guessing the beautiful frames I had picked out. The entire time I was ordering my glasses she and another woman made snide remarks about how the frames did not look like they suited me. I left feeling like I bought the ugliest glasses in the world even though I really liked them. I eventually brushed their comments off and have had these glasses for a year and have received numerous compliments on them. I cannot imagine working a customer service job and being DEGRADING to your customer and for that I will never recommend getting glasses at this eye center. read more

The receptionist that took my call to make the appointment was very rude try to make the appointment for my iritis has for my right eye trying to tell her to pull my records that I need appointment immediately and she said it would be at least two weeks before they can work me in if I could go over there right now I would pull her across the desk and whoop her hind in my doctor says this needs to be a media attention to it so when I go over there for my appointment or girl you better watch out cuz I am coming for you if something happens to this let me tell you they will be a lawsuit. you need to find a new receptionist whoever answers the phone I don't know who it was but she is very very rude..... read more

I took my 8 y/o son for an annual eye exam at Parkwood Eye recently and saw Dr. Johnston. They are certainly knowledgeable about eyes, there is no question, and this is the only reason I am giving them 3 stars; they are not very interested in talking about anything beyond eyes, especially if you do not have hard evidence to back it up. The visit was fairly rushed, so I get the impression that their patient volume is very high. At the end of the visit, Dr. Johnston told me that my son's vision problem wasn't bad enough that the glasses were doing him much good, so it wasn't going to make a big difference whether he wore them or not. I then humbly presented him with a pair of prism glasses we found last year that claim to help with dyslexia and told him the theory (not evidenced based, which I made clear) behind them and how we have been having our son to wear them. The mood suddenly turned sour and you could have cut the tension in the room with a knife. He then told me that dyslexia has no connection with the part of the brain that the glasses are said to stimulate and that it is simply a language processing disorder. His goal seemed to be to make me feel foolish, with my son in the room. I was so taken aback that I could not respond at the time, unfortunately, and he got up and walked out. His insistence that there is no connection between dyslexia and this part of the brain simply shows ignorance about a disorder that is prevalent among 20% of the population. My son's diagnosis was made by a neurodevelopment pediatrician whom my son sees every 3 months. This doctor recommended a book about dyslexia in which only evidenced based information is presented. An important part of this information is that one of the biggest problems with the interpretation of language in those with dyslexia is that the occipital-temporal region of their brains does not seem to function, if at all, like that of an individual w/o dyslexia. This prevents those individuals from forming the natural "word bank" of stored words (I believe the concept behind learning sight words and having to recognizing them at first glance since many of them do not follow the general rules of the English language). I don't claim to know everything about dyslexia, but these are facts that I am confident in. I won't say that I will never return to Parkwood Eye, but my son will not see Dr. Johnston again in my lifetime and I certainly will not either. To be so confidently ignorant and to attempt to make the mother of a patient who is simply trying to help her son succeed in any way she can feel foolish is absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful as a physician. This mentality would explain why there are individuals in his generation who are illiterate and never learned how to read, often because they were labeled with some degree of mental retardation when they may, in fact, have been dyslexic. read more
