Within their practice, they can examine, diagnose, and treat you, as well as fit you for beautiful eyewear. This is all at the same location. Since I have a unique eye condition, I have found it difficult to be treated. However, Dr. Johnson and her colleagues are so specialized, that I have no worries in their care. Their staff are meticulous when it comes to notes and following up as well. In the last few years, there have been a few times when I forgot the name of something or some instructions. All it took was a call to their office, and I was easily reminded because they had it all on record. How awesome is that?! I wholeheartedly trust, and recommend Dr. Johnson, Dr. Allison Lyerly (currently out on leave), and the entire team at CCEC. They are North Carolina's best in eye care!

There is also an in house eye glass store. My surgery was done on the 2nd floor where they have a state of the art surgery set up. Staff there explained everything in detail prior to surgery and after. The anesthesiologist did a great job in making sure I was comfortable and pain free. My follow up today was also great. My eyesight is already looking great. All my questions were answered. I am highly satisfied with the entire process, including these assistance in securing financing for both surgeries. It all started with a 45-minute wait past our appointment time in the lobby, where there was a person screaming nonstop. This was never addressed by the staff, and it left my school aged child terrified--she wouldn't let go of me and just clung to me the whole time. During the appointment, the staff asked me in front of my child whether she was "jealous of her older siblings" and making up eye problems just to get glasses. This was not only inappropriate, but it made an already uncomfortable situation worse. Then, when the doctor finally came in, we were told my child needed glasses to see properly. We were told that our insurance would cover the appointment 100%, but they didn't cover anything because the office had processed the insurance incorrectly. I called multiple times, left messages, and eventually had to send a letter to get someone to address it. When I finally received the bill, the staff was extremely rude and told me it was my fault for not providing insurance that would cover the exam--despite being explicitly told my insurance would cover it fully. In the end, I'm left paying for an exam that was emotionally draining for my child and should have been covered by my insurance. The whole experience was frustrating, and I was really disappointed by the lack of professionalism from both the staff and the doctor. I would highly recommend finding a different eye care provider. We will not be returning to this office.

No one likes going to the doctor, but the atmosphere here is extremely welcoming so you are put at ease. I have been coming to Dr. Sonja Makitan for the past three years and she is wonderful. She knows her stuff, listens to you, and is very good at explaining what is going on and what you need to do in simple terms. She is very thorough and cares about her patients. I have dry eye disease and her suggested care regime has absolutely been helping. Most importantly, she is reasonable and knows we are all not likely to do everything we are supposed to. She always says "progress not perfection." I truly appreciate this type of bedside manner and it makes me want to be proactive in my eye care.

Well worth the small extra fee. When I first started using contact lenses they included some much needed, hands on lessons on putting them on. They reached out to me a few days later to see how things were going. When they learned I was still struggling they asked me to come back in so they could give me some pointers and practice with them watching. SO helpful! They are dedicated to outstanding customer/patient service. From their overall demeanor to their willingness to help with insurance to their happy personas... they make every visit to the eye doctor a pleasant experience. Their dedication to quality is noticeable as you enter the building too... super clean and well kept with nothing out of place. Twice now I've developed eye infections over the last few years. Both times, despite being on a Friday, they were able to work me in for a quick medical visit and get me prescription drops so I would be good as new by Monday.

The ladies up front have always been very professional. Baker Eye Care has a nice selection of prescription glasses to choose from. I have purchased glasses here once but I stick to contacts. Baker Eye Care accepts my insurance which makes it very affordable. I will say the prices for the glasses are higher than national chains or online. I don't know if there is a quality difference, but Baker's service can make up for the difference. Great local practice. Highly recommend supporting local businesses.

If you say "thorough" if an opinion, here are some facts: 1. The doctor grabbed the wrong contact lenses samples for BOTH eyes! 2. At the checkout, the printed prescription for contact lenses was something else for one of the eyes. 3. When I compared with last year's glasses prescription, Dr. Freshwater's prescription does note anything for the astigmatism for one of the eyes, no axis either. So, talking about "thorough." Does he realize we will pay hundreds of dollars for contact/glasses based on his professional judgement and be stuck with these equipment? If a doctor has lost the heart for patients or feels like he can do routine stuff with his eyes closed, he should not practice anymore. A patient doesn't know technical terms, but a human can feel if a doctor cares or not. He did not even bother to "pretend" to care. His nonchalant demeanor and mistakes all over the places revealed his absent-mindedness. The equipment in the office is also dated, traditional pieces, not advanced new equipment with better technology either. It was a harmless exam process, but we walked away wondering what happened?

But you don't tell her she's wrong. Went to a Specialist. Wrong prescription, or put in frame wrong he said. As I said she doesn't do anything wrong. Never went back, and trying to wear those glasses really hurt my vision. Never again.
