Found out about this pizza place in Yorkville that has been around awhile. It actually is one of the nicer places around it. Parma Pizza Bar has lots of Italian classics as well as modern types of stuff. A busy place when there's some party going on. The place isn't that big so it always seems crowded even with a few people. Coming here it was already crowded. It's usually open for only dinner weekdays so it has limited hours. There's longer hours on weekends. A lot of menu items are common. There's a lot more than just pizza. Also has pasta to choose from. It's about $20 to get a pizza. A ripoff even though it's pretty great. There's plenty of meaty toppings but we got the Spinach Primavera. Also there's a few side items to choose. They have salads if eating healthier. Even these are pretty expensive. There's crazy prices and the portions are crappy to be honest. Great idea to call ahead. It's closed Mondays. I have to give this new find for us 5 stars. Parma Pizza Bar was fantastic. I loved the rustic decor and the cleanliness. Even the decor by the restrooms was so cute. This restaurant has two bar areas and a dining room. Our server was Grace. So friendly and always making sure we were happy and didn't need something. My husband and I were here for lunch. We ordered the handrolled pork & beef meatballs with whipped ricotta and fresh marinara. The meatballs were full of flavor...just a little softer and they'd be as good as my dad's. The whipped ricotta was the perfect accompaniment, as was the perfectly grilled garlic focaccia bread. They give you plenty of bread with this signature app. My husband had the special pizza, the Windy City 2.0. It had spicy Italian sausage and prime rib with red sauce and giardiniera. He loved it. I had the prosciutto and fig pizza. I nixed the white garlic cream sauce and just had a little olive oil instead. The sweetness of the figs and balsamic with the salty prosciutto was perfection. So delish! These pizzas are fired in a stone pizza oven making the crust charred and bubbly. I will definitely drive the 40 minutes to try more of the menu. Two thumbs up! read more

In short, this visit wasn't the best. Previous time was much better. Took my wife for her birthday along with our 3 kids and my parents. Atmosphere is good. The server, Cadence, was great. We ordered 2 appetizers, bruschetta which was the best part of all the food and cheese curds which were delicious but for like $13 you get 8-10 small cubes. We got 2 draft beers, one old fashioned(needs some work), an iced tea, 2 chocolate milks, and a lemonade. Water's all around as well. Now the food.... My wife got shrimp scampi and while she said it tasted great, it didn't sit well. Maybe food, maybe coincidence.... Kids got chicken strips and fries(2 avg strips) and another got spaghetti w/meatball that were $12 each. $8 would've been fair imo. Next was the steak sandwich's. While the flavor was good, there was almost no meat at all! For a sandwich that was 8+ inches long and about 3-4 inches wide and the bread was 1 inch thick for top and an inch for bottom the meat didn't even cover the bottom slice. I would guess there was maybe half a cup of meat chunks. Was all bread. Def needs more meat. Same for my mother's.... Last was the pizza. My son and step-dad had that as they were looking forward to it. My son had about 3 bites and said it wasn't very good and my stepdad had 2 pieces and neither were impressed. For the prices we definitely weren't impressed, however in the time before the food was better. Maybe just what we got, maybe an off night. read more

First of all the ambiance is awesome. The wine bottles. On the wall were a nice touch. It has a nice, separate bar area from the rest of the restaurant. The hostess and server were both super nice and friendly. We ordered the dough bites and brochette for apps. The brochette was amazing and super fresh. This is the second time I have been here and I will never dine here again. The food is mediocre at best and way overpriced. We had a server Bee who constantly ignored us. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks and after we placed our drink order, she noticed me glaring at her and came over and asked, "do you need something?" I said "Yeah, our drinks!" Well, we used to be big fans and really enjoyed our meals there. We've recommended this place to others, too. Today, we stopped in for dinner and were taken aback when we asked to sit near the bar (where we have always been sat, and where my husband could watch the ball game more easily). The hostess looked to the manager, who jerked his thumb back at the table we were originally offered by the front window and shook his head at her - clearly indicating that we were not to be sat where we asked. We were there to celebrate my new job, and I've been looking forward to this all week. I don't mean to be dramatic, but it really hurt my feelings, so we left. I would understand if they'd said something, maybe a quick 'hey, we don't have enough seating there' or whatever. I know it's not because kids aren't allowed because we always go with my 9 year old and she's always been welcome to sit with us in the bar area. I can't understand why we'd suddenly be treated differently, especially when it's early in the afternoon and there were very few other diners there. In any case, I don't think we'll be back. This was not the treatment we are accustomed to, and we'll let our friends and family know their service has declined. read more

Our favorite dish is the penne pasta with pesto however it isn't on the menu officially. We have been able to ask them to make it and they often do. We got truffle fries, a Margherita pizza, and a BBQ bacon pizza. The BBQ sauce and the homemade ranch that came with the fries were two of the highlights. The BBQ sauce was tangy in the best way. Really delicious. Should absolutely recommend. The Margherita pizza was good but nothing spectacular. There's so many other pizzas that sound good, I'd branch out next time. As a appetizer, the Parmesan truffle fries were delicious. They had a good size without being too thick. The best part was definitely the creamy homemade ranch. Parma is the latest small town eatery trying to give you the urban feel of Chicago out in the western boonies. First they heavily invested in the ambiance. My only issue with comfort is they have way too many bar height stools and not enough regular tables. For the direction they chose I am surprised that regular seating was not more of a priority. But let's talk food! They have a spanking new wood fired pizza oven in the open surrounded by a viewing service area. There are about eight specialty pizzas served only in the 12 inch size (which each serves two - easily). I had the Butcher Block and my wife had the fig and prosciutto. These guys can make a tasty pizza! Great, flavorful toppings with a perfect, crunchy crust. Seriously some of the best wood fired pizza I've had. There is a selection of other entrees and appetizers (we had the roasted pepper artichoke dip - very good) and finished with their dessert special. We had a signature cocktail each and ran up a $60 bill before tip. I liked Parma and will go back. My only concern is their location in postage stamp, downtown Yorkville my eventually work against them. Do check it out though, you won't be disappointed. read more

We went to Parma Pizza Bar. Spoke to the waitress which was great. I told her that I have a dairy allergy and that I am also vegan. We selected various appetizers and pizza. She brought our refreshments and informed us that the chef and the owner said that they will not comply with my request. No clarity as to why. Either we get it as is or don't get it at all. We went there twice. The first time was a few weeks ago. Waitress was scarce and busy socializing with other employees...so much so when our food finally came it was cold but she dropped it on the table and ran away so fast it was too late to tell her. She never came back and after waiting for her for a few minutes we had to ask another employee to get her. When she came back... finally, she asked how everything was. At this point we'd already eaten half of the pizza. When we told her she blamed it on the "kitchen staff" for not telling her it was ready. As if it wasn't her responsibility. The owner was very nice and offered us a gift card for the pre tax cost, we found out later, of the pizza we ordered. The second, and last, visit was last night. Service was slow though the server, again, was upbeat and polite. We received our drinks in a reasonable amount of time but everything else was slow. The appetizers took a long time though they were very simple. The Calamari, though tasty, was undercooked and soggy. The focaccia was cold. Then we waited... and waited....watching three tables of people seated MUCH later than we were getting their food..their hot food. (We could see the steam coming off of it). I had just asked if everyone wanted to leave and get something somewhere else. (Take into consideration we were all looking forward to having a good experience here after being reassured by the owner that our last experience was just a fluke. It's close to home and we liked the atmosphere.) We were looking for the waitress to ask for our check when the waitress and others finally walked up with our food. She had the pasta dish we ordered and TWO pizzas instead of just one. She, like the other waitress before, blamed the kitchen for making the first pizza wrong....? Then gave us both of them. We decided, since this pizza was hot, to eat. It was getting late. The pasta dish was missing an ingredient that was supposed to be in it according to the menu and the pizza crust was extremely soggy in the middle, but at that point, hunger took over & we decided to just cut our losses next time and not come back. We were there for over 2 hours in total and nobody ever thought it was appropriate to let us know what was going on. Maybe they didn't want the business walking out the door but now it did, finally, but is never coming back. This place has potential but it seems work ethic and responsibility isn't emphasized to the employees. And if they want to argue that it is, tell me why we had two identical experiences in two visits? I'm very disappointed. We were very polite and had good interactions with the waitress. There was absolutely no cause for these two experiences except for a complete lack of consideration for the customer. We never even mentioned our frustration or showed it in any way.
