It's a nice scene. It is upscale without being pretentious. The food is great and they have awesome drinks.

I came here for a business dinner on a Monday night. Great food, the server and host were very helpful and friendly, and the ambiance was awesome. The fire pit in the middle of the restaurant and the fireplace in the porch-like portion are a vibe. I had the hummus trio, which had some really innovative and delicious flavors (a black bean option, a chipotle option, and some sort of balsamic thing I can't remember the name of but was my favorite). The pita bread they served it with was tasty. Everything else in our group looked delicious, too. They had been here several time and they love it. I'm not out this way very often (or ever), but if I were I would definitely come back. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for The Turf Room sooner considering how many times I've been here. This place consistently delivers on every level. The menu truly has a little bit of everything, and somehow they manage to hit the mark across the board. One of my personal favorites to start the night is the wedge salad, it never disappoints. They also have a great steak selection and a surprisingly impressive wine cellar that deserves more attention. The atmosphere is what really sets this place apart. The indoor wood-burning fire pits create an amazing aroma throughout the restaurant, along with the relaxing crackle of the fire in the background. Visiting during the Kentucky Derby only made the experience even better and added to the energy and fun. read more

Family came here after my nephew graduated from NIU. We are arrived around the same time and were seated fairly quickly. They made some minor adjustments to the seating to make accommodations for everyone. I forget the name of our server, but he was pretty good and though I must say. My wife and I started with the Aloha Duck Eggrolls. They were quite tasty, nice crispy exterior and creamy interior, very nice flavor. The Hawaiian sauce added a nice tang to the dish. Others got the calamari and Tres Hummus, they said they were very good. For the entre, I got the Mediterranean Turkey Burger, a couple of people got the Grilled Cluck Norris, The California Panini, Beef Birria Sandwich. All said their food was very good. Both nephews even got food to go! The drinks were tasty and the atmosphere is interesting, especially the semi-private area around the "fire-place". It took a couple of us some time to realize the horse theme. The bathrooms are single user, full height stalls again almost a stable theme. The space was pretty tight especially at the water closet. Coming here to have dinner with my old friend and his wife after moving away from Chicagoland for 8 years. They have lots of steak options with big price tags. I chose a light dish with tuna. The dish has a nice presentation though not enough tuna slices. read more

A great spot to celebrate something special! Inside is very spacious with lots of different dining areas but reservations are still highly recommended since it seems like a popular spot. As for food, we had a little bit of everything. Our meal started with a complimentary bread basket filled with dinner rolls and crackers paired with a sea salt butter. We started with the Waygu pop tarts which were unique! Then we shared the beet salad and bison bone in fillet and finished with a slice of goat cheesecake (complimentary for birthday guests). Our friends live in the area and always come to the Turf room for celebrations. This was our second visit. It's a nice place. Good food. Good service. Feels little fancy. Especially in the back area where the tables are separated by black curtains and the lights are al ways low. The menu has some nice unique things like a meatloaf flight. That was great last time. First time visiting with a group of friends, overall welcoming and friendly vibe from start to finish. Drinks were freshly made, the Don Quijote a tequila based drink was delicious! Their martinis are also topped off right to the rim of your glass - drinker beware lol We ordered a variety of apps for the table, everything came out within a reasonable time. The hummus and beef stuffed puff pastry was a favorite. Entree for me was the jambalaya with spicy andouille sausage and Italian sausage - interesting take since it usually comes with shrimp. It was really good though. My only feedback is the our waitress came around less and less as the night went on, she would walk by our table but wasn't checking in. We liked it. We loved the atmosphere, the rooms divided by heavy curtains and the real wood fire going near the bar area. Our server, Robert, while busy, was helpful and attentive. Our group of 5 got seated for our reservation promptly. Water arrived right away. Robert took our pre-dinner cocktails order. Drinks came about 10 minutes later and were great (Old Fashioneds, Wine etc.). We ordered our meals and I feel they came out in a reasonable period of time. My wife and I split the Beef Short Rib dinner. It's served with carrots and potatoes. The potatoes are think sliced, then put in a baking pan and cooked in an oven (I think), then browned on a flat top or in a skillet. The Short Rib was good. A bit dry, but good. The carrots - fine. The potatoes were a disappointment. While they looked amazing and crispy on the outside, as I was eating my first bite, there was quite a bit of crunch. Wasn't sure what it was. On the second bite, I figured it out. While the potatoes were very thinly sliced, then weren't cooked all the way through. Not even close. So this included side was not edible. I did mention it to our server, Robert and asked him to not replace it as we really didn't need it as we'd had bread and a salad before the main meal. The ambiance & service at this restaurant are pretty commendable. The dark wood decor, well-spaced tables & chairs, a spacious bar area contribute to a pleasant dining experience, complemented by clean powder rooms. However, we found that the seasoning of some of the dishes we ordered varied, making them somewhat inconsistent in flavor. Some are underwhelming, but they have good presentations. We prefer delectable food over presentation! With an extensive menu, it certainly offers the potential for a great meal, so we look forward to trying more options next time we're in the area. Good: the butternut squash was incredible. The campfire bread pudding and French toast were delicious. Service was quick and attentive. Bad: portion sizes were teeny tiny. If you get a pasta dish, make sure you order two of them. The Korean duck wings and wagyu poptarts were meh. The ambiantis super confusing...is it a sports bar? Gambling hole? Upscale dining? Some areas were too bright, others were too dark. Horses...everywhere ...who knows why. Let me start by saying that I live in a neighboring town, and have probably eaten at Turf Room 20-25 times over the years. Which sounds like a lot, except...the food and drinks are so damn good, visiting once a month or once every other month is reasonable to me. IMHO, it's the best overall restaurant in the western suburbs, taking into account ambiance, quality of food, service, etc. Between my family of four, we've tried a large portion of the menu. On the more expensive side, I've tried the filet, bison filet, and surf and turf duck. On the more affordable side, I've also had the cobb salad, duck, and sea bass. All were fantastic and prepared perfectly. My wife's go-to is the salmon, and she seems to love it (not my cup o' tea). If you haven't tried this place, I highly recommend you rectify that. read more

I got the salmon it was cooked to perfection and the sides complimented it well. I also had the dark chocolate torte and it was decadent, so delicious. I love this place! The huge fireplace and gas lanterns throughout the dining area give the perfect ambiance for a cozy evening out from the cold. For lunch I ordered the peachy grilled cheese with Napa fries. What a decadent entree! The fries had delicious dried merlot seasoning and the grilled cheese was amazing with a peach compote that gave just the right amount of tang. This establishment charges a 2.something% "ADMIN FEE" that they include when they bring you the bill. I did not see anything indicating this would be added to my check, prior to dining. The bottom of the check says that the ADMIN FEE is "not a tip or gratuity but it is so THEY can pay THEIR hard working chefs more money...". It's an expensive restaurant. We spent in excess of $320 not including tip. I am also a generous tipper as I used to be a server myself. I do not mind spending money on good food (the food was 4/5 - the bread pudding was not that great but I'd recommend the root beer cookies if I ever went back, which I won't). The calamari was fantastic. The lamb chops were overpriced for the portion size, imo. Oh, the martini was really weak - but last time we went it was not, so maybe they just shorted my pour this time idk could have been a fluke. Anyhow, back to the ADMIN FEE. It was about $8. It's not the $8 that bugs me. It's the deceptive method and principle of the matter. I'm spending close to $400 with tip. I can afford the $8. Why didn't you just charge us .50 more for each menu item? Nobody going to this place is going to question if the lamb chops are $64 or $65. Seriously. Sliding this "fee" into the check at the end of the meal then trying to GUILT YOU INTO PAYING by telling you it's for the "hard working chefs" is insulting. WHY DON'T YOU JUST PAY YOUR CHEFS A FAIR WAGE TO BEGIN WITH? If your margins are that thin, that you can't afford to pay your chefs a decent wage and need to extract money from your customers using deception and guilt tactics at the end of their meal, maybe you should have not opened a restaurant. Maybe you should hire a better business manager. Maybe you should do a better job keeping track of shrink. One of the reasons they probably do this (instead of just paying their employees more) is that if they were to actually pay their chefs more money, it would be permanent and year-over-year they'd have to bear the burden. But instead, they throw it on to the customers, at the end of the meal, and they use guilt tactics to make you feel like you are a bad person instead of the business, who is not paying their chefs enough, obviously. Solid place for lunch solid relaxed ambiance.The outdoor area looks great but with the mini heat wave, will have to try outdoors another time. I got the steak and potatoes sandwich. Very similar to a Reuben, just with sourdough. It was a bit on the oily side it could have stayed on the skillet a little longer, but overall good. The most recent experience was on a beautiful mid week evening where we sat on the covered outdoor patio and enjoyed everything we had. The lamb chops were tasty-cooked as ordered and good seasoning and sauces (arugula mint pesto and smoked tomato jam) with roaster potatoes. The bleu cheese stuffed tempura mushrooms are a great side when pairing with lamb, beef or really anything else! I used to love this place but, sadly, the last few times here I have left disappointed. We were seated outside (first time). I've always wanted to sit outside and never got around to it. That was pretty cool, nice ambiance and we were close, but not too close to the fireplace. Our server was pretty checked out. Didn't make eye contact, just did the minimum. After our food was brought out he didn't check back with us until we were almost done eating. We would have liked another beverage with our meal as the ones we ordered before the meal were mostly gone by the time the food arrived (food was brought out by kitchen staff so we didn't order a beverage then). My husband had the pork chop, which was pretty overcooked and dry. I had the half chicken. Tiny chicken also overcooked. The garlic mashed potatoes were the highlight of the meal. Seriously, hummus should be easy and cost effective to keep fresh. Sorry Turf Room, yours was bland as bland can be. And advertised here on Yelp at under $10 but I was way more. My tuna tacos advertised at under $11 here on Yelp Rand up at $18+ Their online prices ARE NOT correct! What should've been$20 ended up being over $36! This is hands down my favorite restaurant. The food is incredible, and the menu has a variety of options to choose from; even a picky eater will find something they want on this menu. I usually opt for the ricotta tortellacci, but I've tried their Under Pressure and their brunch before and loved it. Cocktails here are to die for, the blueberry mojito is probably my favorite cocktail I've ever had. Service is top notch, servers are very kind and knowledgeable about wines, and they are attentive without being overbearing. We even received complimentary glasses of champagne after noting in our reservation that it was an anniversary dinner. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, with private rooms, a large bar and wine bar, a covered patio, and candlelit dinners. We stopped in after some afternoon tennis, and found a pretty full parking lot and restaurant. Fortunately we had a reservation. We sat in the closed outdoor patio flanked by two burning wood fireplaces. The aroma of wood smoke somehow stimulates the appetite. We enjoyed a calamari appetizer and some potato fritters. Service was prompt and attentive. The menu is huge and includes some homey comfort food type of items, in addition to steaks, chops and lamb. The meatloaf flight was a pleasant surprise, with one turkey, one lamb and one Wagyu mini loaf. Paired with a wine flight it's a popular and tasty dish. The Shake n' bacon pork chop was the choice for two of us at the table. It was crisp coated like the Shake and bake chops of childhood, but large and meaty unlike those supermarket chops from way back. No dessert this time, but we enjoyed our meal. read more

Was recommended this place by a coworker and told us to try the pomegranate martini... definitely did not disappoint! It was sweet and strong, all the martinis are very good!! I've been meaning to try this place for years. Finally was in town for a visit and we made a reservation for 4 for brunch. Arrived on time and were seated in the covered patio. Host offered several menu options. Brunch, lunch, sandwich. Huh. We asked for the brunch, lunch and sandwich. Patio had a fire burning and, temperature wise, was comfortable. There was a table nearby celebrating a birthday that was rather loud, but to be expected with a large group. The brunch buffet looked good, but I was looking for a lighter meal and opted for the Bacon & Egg Salad. Had a mimosa. Salad? Very filling and heavy for a salad. It was not finished. Soups vide egg, bacon, potato, goat cheese, mixed greens with a truffle vinaigrette. It was more a bacon & potato dish with a little bit of salad. Ingredients were good, just not what I was looking for. Service started off good and then trailed off. At 1 point, we had 3 different people stop by and were unsure if they were communicating with each other because drinks were not being delivered.
