After a day of shopping in Mexico City-we were starving and stumbled upon this interesting restaurant called Parilla Leon
This location is located in Centro Historico pretty close to Palacio de Belles Artes.
It's a cute sit down restaurant,we arrived for lunch. Its also a very large restaurant with many tables and multiple rooms available.
This particular day it seemed like there were a lot of government workers having lunch here,it wasn't a fancy place it was just centrally located pretty close to government offices.
Once I sat down,I decided I would try eating just off the appetizer menu,so I ordered a Caesar Salad(169 pesos/$9.71 USD).I also got an order of Charro Beans(145 pesos/$8.33 USD) and lastly I ordered a Chorizo Quesadilla(105 pesos/$6.03 USD).
The wifey ordered a much more traditional dish, she got a Chile Relleno Arrachera(369 pesos/$21.21 USD)
We were also served complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa here,as it has across the entire city was just amazing tasting.
Let's start with my meals-After a week of tacos stands and churros,my body was aching for a Caesar Salad and this one was really top notch ,so simple yet so pleasing.
The Charro Beans dish was very tasty, especially with the crushed Chicharron on top.
The fresh in house made tortillas and perfect seasoning on that chorizo quesadilla made it so tasty-if I was't getting full ,I would've ordered two more of these things.
One of the great benefits of traveling with a light eater is being able to be the "closer when your partner can't finish her meal and that was the case with her Chile Relleno Arrachera.
I'm so glad that happened because this was my favorite dish of this meal-perfectly roasted poblano pepper stuffed with skirt steak, with cheese and rice on the inside as well.
Incredible dish that totally changes the way I look at Chili Rellenos-no batter was a game changer, really brought the flavor of the poblano pepper forward.I thought about this dish for many days after I came home.
In closing,I will say this restaurant isn't as inexpensive as other places I dined at during my trip to Mexico City but I will say the quality of the dishes I ate made the cost feel like a real value.
I highly recommend this restaurant for a mature sit down meal whenever in downtown Mexico City. read more
