This is a must visit for bird owners, or even aspiring bird owners. The owners are extremely knowledgeable about birds and only sell products they 100% stand by. The toys are well crafted and there are SO many toys! The owner mentioned that a lot of the toys are hand made by a friend. Thet even have supplies where it appears you could make your own toys. They also have food, supplements, treats, perches, cages, everything you and your birdies need. When we visited, he recognized that he had not seen us before and asked us about our birds and got to know us. He shared his knowledge and advice but was not condescending or judgemental- only wanting to ensure we knew the best way to care for our feathered friends. Holy God, the owner doesn't stfu. Ever. At all. Which could be helpful, if you have a question or need help, but he will monologue at you regardless whether you need or want him to or not. And even if you need assistance or a question answered, you might not want to be trapped into a half-hour or longer lecture with no way to excuse yourself without appearing rude. Shopping for bird stuff shouldn't feel like a verbal hostage situation. This also means that other customers are forced to wait for him to...I don't know, run out of words? Breathe? in order to get assistance or be checked out. If I am waiting in line, I am ready to move on with the rest of my day. But no, I am stuck waiting for the apocalypse or for this dude to stop talking and actually do business-- whichever comes first. I am trying to give you money. Do you want it or not? You should definitely avoid this place. First of all this guy(owner) unnecessarily talks a lot. He always tries to teach you something without caring whether you want to hear something or ask. That's ugly! He is just marketing oriented. Whatever he says about the birds or bunch of trash talks are just oriented selling his stuff. I bought a bag of food for my birds recently by his insistent suggestions. He marketed the product almost half an hour. He said that this is the best quality food for your birds. It was an unusual one. And guess what? My birds didn't even taste it because of its smell. I have been petting parakeets and other birds for long years. I have bought good or poor quailty foods all time but I have never seen that birds decline to eat them. Then I inferred the point that manager of the store is trying to use his all marketing skills to sell this shit for poor birds. When I talked to him about the situation he declined to replace the food. You should definitely skip this store. It was a big regret to me. Poor service! Poor stuff! Poor seller! I like this place. I do say Like instead of love, as some of the people who work in there are a tad - robotic. I have been here a number of times and I really like their selection. Their food selection as another reviewer mentioned may not seem like a lot in the front. I go in and ask for what I want and they will mix it up for me. If I want a couple different things they will do that too. They are VERY knowledgeable which is great to have. There are a lot of toy selections and even some birds in there. These are beautiful, passionate people with the best and most caring "hearts" and knowledge of parrots and avian species! Although Parrot Island no longer "sells" birds, but, instead (I believe), helps re-home parrots... our little Jenday Conure was a purchase from Parrot Island back in the later 1990s (they used a local breeder with integrity - our bird is five generations out of the wild). They spent hours educating us before we were allowed to purchase (and eventually go home with our little "rainbow" bird - who needed to stay at the store for five weeks because of multiple hand feedings a day until she could begin eating regular food)! We were carefully (and gravely) informed about how the type of bird we were purchasing was a "higher-level" bird - which has proved true and accurate over-and-over through the years (think;"Intelligence level of a human two-year-old including all of the behavior and attention needs"!) They were so right and responsible to make double and triply-sure that we knew whet we were getting into! For years now, we have trusted their passion and knowledge to feed and care for our Jenday Conure parrot. I know of no-one else in town who is as passionate and knowledgable as Terry, Shari & Troy! These people "get" parrots and I've trusted their recommendations for the life of our parrot (and she's never had a health issue in 16 years). If you care about what you're feeding your parrot, get your food here. They have a clear understand of what will be best for your parrot type and age. It makes me really sad to see other parrots and walk through pet stores where the parrots have nasty, artificially-colored "food" in the parrot's dishes. Just like all the other regular customers, I have no idea why anyone would ever give this place a bad rating. The first time I came in, I explained to Terry that I has recently adopted a cockatiel from the Humane Society that had been on a seed diet all 8 years of his life and I wanted to put him on pellets which are healthier. I had purchased Kaytee brand pellets at a chain pet store to acclimate him to eating pellets using cheaper food in case he refused to be switched, and that I wanted to start him on higher quality organic Harrison's brand pellets since he was eating the Kaytee pellets nicely. Terry told me that to get a well rounded diet that he would mix Harrison's and two other brands of pellets together and grab a high quality organic seed mix for me as well. He used to be an avian vet, so this guy really knows what he's doing, I've never seen him be rude to anyone, he knows many customers by name and knows exactly what they need when they walk in, he stayed open about 10 minutes late for me once because I came in 2 minutes before he closed and needed some pellets mixed up, I will be shopping here as long as I own birds because this is a GREAT store and anyone that would give him anything below 4 stars is either crazy or a jerk or both. read more

I moved from Minneapolis 14 years ago, and Parrot Island is still the only store I'll shop for my birds. I found this store shortly after getting my first parrot in 1998. Parrots are intelligent and playful creatures; I learned how to be a good parrot guardian because of the time Beaudoins willingly invest in anyone who wants to learn. Their knowledge and concern for parrots is coupled with the fact that they will carry only the highest quality foods and supplies. When I first moved to Las Vegas, I checked out the bird stores and found them dirty, carrying many cheap products, and with poorly cared-for birds. My years of shopping Parrot Island spoiled me I guess. I got used to a CLEAN store and birds that were socialized and well cared for. I was interested in acrylic bird cage and called this store only to realize that they did not ship this kind of cage because or worry of broken. Since they build their cage, I thought they were very experience (and I rarely saw one before), I started asking the store person questions. As far as I am concerned, he seemed not to eager to talk about it because apparently I did not live in local areas. He got another phone calls and wanted me to hold. After that, a long hold forced me to hang up the phone. I could only imagine that he did not want to waste time talking to me. Parrot Island has enriched my birds' lives more than I could ever describe in just one paragraph. The owners are so incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the importance of good bird health. They really care and are 100% hands-on with their customers. If you're a bird mom or dad you absolutely have to go there to believe how great it is.
