This is an impressive Twin Cities reptile show - 4 stars…read more I've been out of the reptile hobby for several years. But apparently, I'm now out-of-touch! Reptiles and amphibians have gone big time in Minnesota. You no longer need to travel to Chicago or Florida to attend a big reptile show. Cold Blooded Expos puts on The Minnesota Reptile Show every few months at the Double Tree Hotel in Bloomington. Do a Google search to find the latest show dates. I brought along a young friend who loves reptiles and is somewhat obsessed with large snakes. She's definitely a budding young herpetologist! We had a blast. The show is huge and the crowds are impressive. The expo fills 2 HUGE conference centers on the second floor of the hotel. For some reason, the majority of the vendors had Ball Pythons of every size and color. I have to admit, after an hour I got a little tired of seeing, literally, hundreds of Ball Pythons. There were also a sizeable number of vendors with Geckos. Those two kinds of reptiles were the majority of specimens on offer. There were a few other interesting animals. I saw a couple of large chameleons, a few tortoises, a couple of box turtles (I didn't see any aquatic turtles), and a wonderful vendor that breeds Axolotls from St. Paul. There were a few vendors with invertebrates like spiders and centipedes. Finally, I saw at least 2 vendors with feeder insects, 1 selling habitats, a very talented wildlife artist, and a HUGE wall of bling like mugs, t-shirt, hoodies, bags, etc. My only minor gripe is the narrow selection of reptile species. Still...it was fun and worth the trip. If you have any interest in Herpetology whatsoever, I highly recommend visiting one of these shows. Also, if you're a reptile person, I suggest visiting the "Twin Cities Reptiles" pet shop in St. Paul. And if you're even more serious, The Minnesota Herpetology Society meets on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota once a month in Borlaug Hall. Thumbs up! -Maxx

As soon as me and my friends walked in we were approached by an employee immediately. My friends went to look around and I asked a few questions. The employee gave me a lot of good answers as well as recommendations and items that might interest me in the store. The store is extremely well stocked, with items I've only been able to find online before. Me and my friends had a ton of fun looking at the tanks around the store and I good some great inspiration looking around. I got a few items including a snail trap (another item I've only seen online!) and the cashier was super friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the shop. The store below even had an enormous reef tank installed and maintained by the store employees. Well, that was me over 50 years ago except I never lost interest. I've been keeping fish and visiting fish stores around the country for my entire life. The people from World Of Fish who started RiverShore Aquariums have done a great job. Located not far from the original World of Fish, RiverShore has clean tanks, friendly and knowledgeable staff and they are super keyed in on planted tank setups. These days my tanks are relatively simple just to keep things easy, rocks and driftwood mostly, but I've been wanting to do a planted tank for a while. I know the basics but had some questions on substrate, plant selection and lighting for what is basically going to be a freshwater nanotank. The staff person who helped me was super knowledgeable, answered my questions and gave me some good advice for getting started. They had a good selection of different kinds of gravel as well as an assortment of driftwood and rocks. I liked that they have a table where you can do a little aquascaping trial and error before you make a final selection. The fish were high quality and appeared healthy. Most were smaller species suitable for planted tanks. I even discovered a new species that I had never heard of - anchor catfish. Super cool and perfect for my little nanotank. I know enough about fish and have been to enough fish stores to know which ones are really good. Rivershore is at the top of the list if you live in the Twin Cities, and especially if you're interested in giving planted tanks a try. Even if its plants aren't your thing or you are new to the hobby, I'd checkout Rivershore for your first aquarium.

The grooming team at Angel's Pet World worked on my pup for more than three hours and he looks fabulous! So I guess you need to get those at Walmart, Target, or your local grocery store. They seem to have a little of everything...live rodents, Beta's, a few lizards, live insect feeders, fresh foods, and dog grooming - full service & self-service. The only things they don't have are live fish (except the Betas) and aquatics. The other big area I like about Angel's is cat adoption. There's a huge cat adoption area right up front. They're very serious about it. They also have a big display (in the entryway) of dogs that are up for adoption through local agencies. But where to get pine nuts (not the pre-shelled kind - heaven forbid) on a Sunday morning? Finding myself in Blaine, I remembered this little pet store just north of Hwy 14. There is always a chance. Sure enough they had them. You won't find them in most pet stores and certainly not the Big Box ones. They have fish, small mammals, and a few small birds [people have quail for pets?] They also had a wide variety of supplies for everything from Aardvarks to Zebu. They are a local company with many years in business. I proudly returned from the store and presented Hannah with her new treats. "You're Alright" she said. I guess I am.

I recently bought a rabbit that was in unacceptable conditions. The rabbits hair was so long that…read moreit completely covered her eyes. I got the rabbit home and realized that she was matted all the way from under her front arms to her rear and even in between her ears. Her eyes were gooped together and hardly opening. The next day I brought her to the groomer and they could not believe that they would have sold me a bunny in this condition. They said she wouldn't have survived to long if i wasn't to bring her in. The day after bringing her to the groomer I noticed mites crawling around on her. I called the store to tell them what happened and they blamed it on "new employees" or "didn't notice it" . I proceeded to ask how long she was there and they said over a month. It isn't rocket science to see that she was miserable and something was wrong. All they offered me was a new thing of bedding and something that "might" help the mites. Although they do state in their policy that they are not responsible for any health issues after purchasing, It was an obvious sign of neglect and I feel any good person would take some sort of action. Someone with this little care for animals should not be running a pet store, let alone selling them. I was hoping they would take some sort of responsibility but if they don't think they did anything wrong , than I don't see there being changes made anytime soon... which brings me to consideration of reporting them to animal cruelty services. No animal should be left living with untreated conditions and it's upsetting to see animal neglect in a store you once enjoyed stopping into.

The staff is always friendly, and willing to check the back if they don't have something. I have a picky puppy and a picky old cat when it comes to food, and they have given me plenty of samples to try for each of them - thankfully! My cat *attempted* to try 8 different samples, and only like the 9th one (of course). My puppy on the other hand, who is a little over one year old - still only eats the Fromm puppy food, not the adult version (of course)! I've never used the grooming services or self serve bath, but they are usually busy! While I used to bring my puppy here, as he got older he started to bark at everything, so I now leave him at home, but I love seeing all the well behaved pets! There is a huge parking lot here & make sure to sign up for the rewards program (especially if you shop a lot for your pets)!
